PAK-CHINA RELATIONS AT STAKE?

PROFESSOR ALI SUKHANVER

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It was 18th of last July when some terrorists attacked a police station of Xinjiang Province of China which borders Pakistan. The attack claimed lives of more than 18 innocent people. Soon after the attack the western and Indian media started spreading the disinformation that the suspects involved in this attack had been trained in Pakistan. The purpose behind this disinformation was nothing but to malign friendly relationship between China and Pakistan. Pak-China friendly relations need no introduction. Pakistan is fortunate enough to have a friend like China in the neighbourhood. If there were no China in the region, the situation could have been much more painful for the people of Pakistan. Pak-China friendship is time tested and progressing by leaps and bounds every moment. Unluckily this friendship is proving itself much agonizing for those countries which dream of ruling this region on the basis of economic and political exploitation. This close cordial relationship between Pakistan and China has always been a pain in the neck for such countries. They always try to create hitches and hurdles between the friendly relations of Pakistan and China by cropping-up well-calculated conspiracies. The Xingjian attacks are also one of such conspiracies.

Xinjiang province is the largest Chinese administrative division and spans over 1.6 million km2. It borders Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. It has abundant oil reserves and is China’s largest natural gas-producing region. Xinjiang is situated in the border area of northwest China and occupies an area of 1.6649 million sq km, accounting for one sixth of Chinese territory. It has a land border of 5,600 km bounded by eight countries. This province is considered one of ChinaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s five autonomous regions for ethnic minorities. Its population is more than 19.25 million. Other than the Uighurs, the vast majority of whom is Muslim, there are 47 ethnic groups in Xinjiang including the Hans. Because of its Muslim majority the Xinjiang province has always been a target of all anti-Islamic forces of which India is no doubt the leading actor. It is because of the Muslim majority in this area that the western media in collaboration with the Indian think tanks has been yelling at the so-called flourishing Islamic extremism in Xinjiang for the last many years.

India and China are having a very unfriendly type of relationship since very beginning. The nature of this relationship became more hostile somewhere in 1950s when the People’s Republic of China started construction of a 1,200 km long road which connected Xinjiang and western Tibet. 179 kilometers of this road ran to the south of the Johnson Line through the Aksai Chin region which was claimed by India. Unluckily the Indians could not learn of the construction of this road until the road was shown in Chinese maps published in 1958. The construction of this road gave birth to a series of never-ending mistrust and suspicions between India and China. Since then India is always busy in creating disturbance and disorder in the Xinjiang region. The terroristsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ attack on the police station of Xinjiang Province in July was also one of such childish efforts through which India tried to kill two birds with one stone. This attack not only took the lives of innocent Chinese people but also tried to generate an air of disbelief between Pakistan and China.

There have been reports that the agents of Raw have tried many times to invade Xinjiang in the guise of Islamic extremists. The RAW has provided them fake Pakistani identities. These agents are directed to create law and order disturbance in the peaceful land of Xinjiang. Most of these agents are the Hindus by creed but they are so well trained that it would be very much difficult to recognize their actual identity. According to the details some of these agents intentionally surrender them before the security forces of China after being involved in some act of terrorism. The only purpose behind is to give the Chinese government an impression that Pakistan is trying to promote religious extremism in Xinjiang.

Pak-China friendship is not as fragile as misunderstood by India. The two countries have a very long history of cordial relations. The whole of the Chinese nation is thankful to the people of Pakistan for their precious support on issues concerning ChinaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s sovereignty, such as Taiwan, and Tibet. The Chinese leadership has always acknowledged the significant role of Pakistan in the early 1970s, which enabled China to break its isolation from the West and the US. Pakistan also helped China become a member for the United Nations. Pakistan has always played an effective role in bringing the Muslim world closer to China. On the other hand China has always proved itself a very strong support to Pakistan through every time of trial and tribulation. The people of Pakistan can never forget the role of China during Pakistan-Indian tensions in 2008.That was the time when the Chinese leaders very openly promised unlimited financial and military aid to Pakistan. It is something next to impossible for anyone to create any type of misunderstanding and confusion between the two countries with the help of baseless propaganda. With the increasing influence and interference of USA in the region and after the rapidly growing US-India closeness, China is supposed to play a very important role in the south Asian region. The importance of Pak-China friendship can neither be denied nor minimized. China is the only force which can guarantee the balance of power as well as peace and prosperity in the region. The people of Pakistan are very well aware of the fact that by joining hands with the USA; Pakistan has faced very serious type of losses. It is the most urgent, logical and rational requirement of time that Pakistan must say good-bye to USA and strengthen its ties with China. In the presence of time-tested friends one must not waste ones time in running after new relations, based on nothing but temporary gains and achievements.

SL is lucky to have both China and Pakistan in the region.

Pak-China relations are a must to maintain peace in the region. We hope these two good friends will remain friends.

There are some very foolish Muslims in Pakistan and SL who try to create trouble between friends and become cannon fodder of the west. Recent grease devil nonsense in SL was supported by some very foolish Muslims who would have become toiletpaper of Robert Blake the ugly American if not for the timely action by the SL army. You have to educate them. Blake mentioned grease devil BS. He planned them but didn’t work.

India and USA will do anything to pit Muslims against Muslims and they undofrtunately succeeded in Pakistan. This trend has to be reversed.

Please keep writing. We have to save Pakistan and our friendship with them. Pakistan helped us in politics, war, cricket, etc. and we are grateful.

You are completely right. This is very sad that West countries tell public something and do something else in other part of the world. If some one attack the west who were their friends, they say, sorry it was mistake. So for them past is always present. There never have been a past for them because they always live in the past. Some people go and ask them apologies for what they did in colonial time. These people are another kind of foolish people because it is useless to apologies while you do same thing in the same time. how many million of apologies they have to make for what they have doing since 1950s till today.

We can hope for peace. but one-side peace alone will not work.
