ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Subject:ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  END LTTE, TAMIL, FOREIGN BASHING – START TALKING MAID SLAVERY, MASSIVE CORRUPTION!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One is sick and tired of the incessant barbs and nit-picking over major and minor issues pertaining to the LTTE Tigers, Tamil Diaspora, Channel 4, foreign accusers of alleged war crimes, and other related issues, even non-issues.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Such a tendentious campaign by some against anything even remotely connected to the Tamil ethnic issues, often laced with plain drivel, borders on mental masturbation. It is time to end this constant drum-beat.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is high time that your readers be spared of this monotonous ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-broken recordƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, of pouring bile, non-stop, on ethnic issues and related international issues.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Instead, it is proposed that an active and vigorous campaign be launched against the near-slavery, barbaric, and cruel treatment meted out to Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s genuine bread-winners, its poor and hapless maids in the Middle East, particularly in wealthy Saudi Arabia, that is the center of Islam. Sri Lankans need to highlight these gross violations of civilized conduct and lack of elementary decency and norms before the Forums of the world.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ About 24 nails were removed from LP Ariyawathie’s body after arriving in Sri Lanka in August 2010

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Through their sweat, toil and tears, maids have through their regular remittances propped up the Sri Lankan economy, which has been a basket case for decades, and at the mercy of foreign aid handouts for 60 years since Independence ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” with nothing to show for.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They are not convenient dual citizens, nor Sri Lankan expatriates safely and comfortably ensconced in Western abodes, who blow their trumpets about the motherland, but do little or nothing for it in terms of hard cash or kind, unlike these maids and other Sri Lanka workers who are at the mercy of unscrupulous and cruel employers in the Middle East.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At least, hand it to President Rajapakse for the visible changes of progress he has realized in the last few years in the still troubled island. The remittances of maids over the decades have helped uplift their families out of dire poverty ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” and in turn increased the gdp/capita of Sri Lankans. Their remittances, though, are still needed to prop up the Sri Lankan economy. They deserve our sympathy. They deserve our gratitude. They deserve our help, in whatever way, shape or form.

And, corruption has reached gargantuan proportions. It has pervaded all levels of society, from top to bottom, and corrupted the very social fabric that perilously holds together a nation of different ethnicities, religions, of rich and poor.

Corruption at the highest levels of government and high society is the clear and present danger, not LTTE Tigers, or Tamil Diaspora, or Robert Blake!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ By some estimates, over US$ 480 million of ill-gotten money are stashed away in secret Swiss Bank vaults. This is an utter disgrace for a dirt poor country with the IMF at its doorstep!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Any jackass with a nodding acquaintance of basic economics and the fundamentals of mathematical zero-sum games played by those in power and influence would know that these crooks are eventually robbing from the poor. Reverse Robin Hood.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No nation can withstand for long the cancer of corruption that has taken hold in Sri Lanka. It is not if, but when, Sri Lanka collapses under its weight.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sincerely

  1. Lorenzo Says:

Agree with the need to stop exporting housemaids.

But the corruption story has its holes. Sunday Times is owned and operated by the UNP leader’s relatives. They took so long to report this so called corruption case. Why didn’t they report it when Maharoof was in the UNP?

Tamil Elam threat is much worse than the corruption threat. Tamil Elam threat is PART OF the corruption issue. You cannot look at these 2 in isolation.

The biggest corruption at the moment is not politicians robbing money but Tamil Tigers’ business in SL.

  2. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

Interesting comments from Mr Pulle who seems to have sympathy for the housemaids but does not seem to have a solution to their problems and seems to be living in a world of his own about the Tamil Tiger/Tamil Ealam threat which he calls mental masturnbation as a part of the dilemmas related to what the Sri Lanka Administration has to deal with which will continue as long as there are disgruntled Tamils ever attempting to regroup around he world. Delusion my boy can be elementary when the mind focuses on personal anxieties and translates them into imagined priorities! Heh heh!
Lortenzo’s analysis seem quite appropriate in his attempt to disillusion the Thousand Oaks spokesperson who seems hell bent on distracting the readers using the famous alternate psyche that might easily be translated into the “baffling with bullshit when incapable of dazzling with brilliance” syndrome! There are many who contend realistically that the Tigers and Ealam are a bigger threat to the Nation than any political corruption linkable to the present administration where diversions about the reality are rife especially with the likes of the TNA floating around with their skulduggerous presence.Wonder what Mr Pulle thinks of them?

  3. Dilrook Says:

    A recurrent theme.

However, many don’t know where major waste and corruption is. It is not politicians. We need to tackle politicians’ corruption no doubt but that will still keep the nation within the grip of corruption.

Selectively looking at corruption is the biggest impediment to control it. “Some corrupt practices are good because they benefit the concerned parties and other practices are not” is the attitude among most if not all those who cry about corruption.

  4. Dham Says:

    Pulle,
If Rajapakse had any Swiss Bank accounts that would have been release to CIA by now.
We have lived with corruption for so long. It is not as massive as Malaysia, Indonesea and most other places.
It is Tamils who ruined Sri Lanka in recent times and it is the Tamils in the west ( like you) are trying to bash Sri Lanka right now and it is the priority now, Pulle.

  5. Raj Says:

Mr Pulle is trying to attack the government which fought the world’s most ruthless terrorist organization in the world, from an unexplored angle. Everyone can see ‘where you are coming from’ Mr Pulle. Corruption is nothing compared to what the rich LTTE diaspora, to which you perhaps belong, is doing to our motherland. You guys are none other than econimic migrants who want to show off your wealth in your holidays in Sri Lanka. You should have chosen Tamilnut to offer your advice.

  6. aravinda Says:

Mr.Pulle is the latest Tamil Diasporas Keyboard heroes. Sri Lankans can solve their problems, Tamils living in Sri Lanka have no desire for an Eelam. It is only a pipe dream of overseas Tamils.

Corruption is every where. Just look at USA, the worlds most corrupt nation. They have murdered 750,000 people in IRAQ during the oil robbery. What you say, Pulle? Its everywhere? Why only single out Sri Lanka? What about raising these issues about USA? You are living there now? Too afraid ha?

You can ask why American blacks live in streets? Why blacks can’t buy AIDS medicine? There are over 10 million AIDS patients in USA. There just dying and government just won’t take notice. Do you remember New Orleans? That is when President Bush went in to hiding for ten days and let the blacks die. Don’t you have any sympathy for your brothers in USA?

Pulle, We are vigilant. we are watching every move by LTTE sympathizers. If Sri Lankans had done this thirty years ago, Sri Lanka would be par with Malaysia now. We made a mistake. We will not let our children and unborn suffer again.

  7. Ramanie Says:

Tamil Tiger war simply shifted overseas from its main theatre, Sri Lanka- still the number one issue facing Sri Lanka by a country mile is the Global Tamil threat! Pulle, true to his ilk says never mind the on-coming Yall Devi- just worry about the little thorn in your foot!

    Nice try!

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

The ltte earlier & the ltte rump now together with their sympathisers abroad are/were the most guilty of corruption, bribing their way to the western VIPs together with lies, cheat & deceit to make their separatist story gain sympathisers. If anyone can stop their corrupt practices abroad and in Sri Lanka, most of our problems will cease. Stopping the ltte rump, correcting their sympathisers views and their media support is by far more important compared to the maid issue & corruption in Lanka. There is an error of perception in Mr Pulle’s article.

Bribery & Corruption in Lanka is relatively small compared to what has happened/happens in India and America. Lanka too can improve in this aspect. We can also teach & create alternative employment to our maids in the Mid East, so that they can stay home and earn money, or earn money abroad in better ways. Basically, it is the rush to earn foreign exchange in the flawed monetary system in the world together with globalisation that is causing untold misery to some sectors in society.

  9. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

It will be interesting to see if Mr. Pulle has any gas in his tank left after accelerating fast to get away from these dedicated sons and daughters of Lanka which in all probabilities he has. They have pursued his dim witted comments with clinical precision armed with the cognizances and razor sharp awarenesses needed to contradict his apathetic rabble rousing write up and carve him up like a Thanksgiving Turkey!! Which analogy probably is fitting with the prestigious Western event not too far away! and Sri lanka needs to give thanks to the Rajapaksha Administration for the restoration of the Nation almost in her entirety after the Tamil Tiger insurgency! which reality he seems oblivious to or chooses to ignore!
Indeed sounding like a Tamil Tiger sympathiser with a mission to divert attentions from their ongoing global criminal activities he has attempted to denigrate the Sri Lankan Administration and has been caught in the act for which he is paying the price, seen by all the barrages posted here and perhaps deservedly so!
His kind of arrogance and the nerve he has had to post such a contentious item in the insidious manner he has, is truly indicative of certain expatriate Sri Lankans in safe havens abroad who have burnt their bridges with and attempt to dabble in with obvious frustrations, contempt and derision, official matters pertaining to their Motherland and her administrators as though they have Carte Blanche to do so and then also have the nerve to go back there for lavish, luxurious holidays shamelessly accentuating the double standard!
Render unto the Maids of Sri Lanka repreive and a means to secure their existences comfortably without being exposed to Arab nendacities and chauvunism yes! but educate this fellow in the fine art of subtlety as oposed to his “Bull In A Chinashop” mentality and a respect for his Motherland sans the empathies shown to the Tamil Tigers in disfavour of Sri Lankan Government policy which he doesn’t seem to have a clue about beyond hearsay and an assumed sense of pompousness often indicated by persons of a similar mentality and present day life’s circumstances of affluence which comes of paying homage to the authoritarian and bigoted West which has afforded them the motivation perhaps and also acquired by kissng Western ass!!
To cap it all up the irony is, he is the son of a prominent Chief Justice of bygone years in his Motherland !

  10. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

HEY PULLE ! DONT TRY TO DRAW A RED HERRING ACROSS THE TRAIL, AND DIVERT THE SUBJECT OF YOUR SICK, PERVERSE STINKY TAMIL BASHING OF SRI LANKA. FIRST, TELL YOUR TAMIL CLAN TO STOP TALKING ILL ABOUT THEIR MOTHERLAND, WHERE THEIR MOTHERS BROUGHT THEM FORTH, LEGITIMATELY, OR ILL-LEGITIMATELY.

YOU TAMILS HAVE USED YOUR ILL GOTTEN MONEY BY EXTORTATION AND COERSIVE MEANS, TO KILL YOUR OWN KIND, AND KILL AND MAIM MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN, OF OTHER COMMUNITIES AS WELL. IT ALSO CAUSED DESTRUCTION OF BILLIONS WORTH OF PROPERTY. SO PLEASE DO US A FAVOUR, SHUT THE XXXK XP, AND TELL THE TAMIL IMBECILE DIASPORA TO STOP INSULTING THEIR MOTHERS FOR HAVING GIVEN THEM BIRTH IN SRI LANKA. OK.

WHEN YOU GIVE ALL THESE ILL GOTTEN MONIES AS BRIBES TO TOP PERSONALITIES IN THE WORLD, TO BASH SRI LANKA, AND EMBARRASS SRI LANKA, WHAT IS YOUR CONCEPT OF THOSE RECIPIENTS WHO COLLECT YOUR MONIES ? IS THAT NOT ABSOLUTE “”” BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION”” ? YOU MUST BE MENTALLY DERANGED, PULLE, THAT YOU DO NOT WANT , NOT TO SEE IT, BY DESIGN.

  11. Rohan8 Says:

Mr Pulle living in Thousand Oaks California is trying to focus issues to minor issues relating to Sri Lanka. Maybe Mr Pulle will do well to focus on issues on what the US Govt is upto rather than focus on Sri Lanka as he is presumably now a American citizen. I wouldn’t take any notice of someone wanting to be a spokesman on Sri Lankan issues living in Thousand Oaks.California, US. Who as someone mentioned here comes to Sri Lanka on holidays to show off.

  12. ranjith Says:

    Hello Pulle

You are not only the one who bash Sri Lanka. Bashing Sri Lanka is not an unusual phenomenal matter for Brahmins to Pulle and Pulle to lower caste Tamils.

Under different names many bash against Sri Lanka in their writings. When they holiday in Sri Lanka, they prefer to visit in different names on their Passports.

A Tamil holidayed Sri Lanka two months ago and he visited all over the island. When he returned to UK, he wrote a venomous anti-Sri Lankan article in one of the Tamil diaspora webs, that Sri Lanka is motivating state terrorism. He made in that article, mockery to Buddha statues built in North.

Hello Pulle, I don’t think you have enough guts to criticize any ruling party ministers’ Swiss bank accounts?

I know most of the Pulles are Tamil terror sympathizers.

Jeyaraj Fernando Pulle was a king of importing luxury cars and he used to get commission for each car nearly one million rupees. He amassed wealth through corruptible methods, and his family still has lots of houses and properties in Negombo and Welihena. He bought many properties in Australia too, as far as I know.

Many residents of Negombo are still wondering, how this Fernando Pulle bought so much of properties.

  13. Marco Says:

    Mr Pulle,
Think you must have realised by the vitriol comments displayed here is not necessarily a reflection of the discerning (word often used at Lankaweb!) majority Lankan citizens who brandishes a Tamil writer who finds faults with the Rajapakses as a Traitor, Terrorist and the usual name calling. A common trait amongst the commentators at Lankaweb.
Regrettably we have the Tamil Diasporas and the Diashoras!
Perhaps, a re-visit in 5-7 years time will tell a different story. Memories are indeed short.

  14. ranjith Says:

    Marco,

Re-visiting in 5-7 years time for a different story? That means peelam or 13th amendment?

  15. sena Says:

Very appropriate and thoughtful comments. And the people like mahattaya shows how ignorant or uncaring some can be towards their fellow beings. As the writer says these domestic helpers and other blue collar workers in and outside the country are shouldering the economy. And mahattya is asking who is helping them while depending on the dollars they send home for his survival. The social cost these poor women pay to earn a pittance is enormous and there is almost no mechanism in place to help them. Even worse society look at them as third class undesirables (they have same attitude toward seamstresses). As someone famous said when a nation start selling their women for survival that nation has no future. It is a tragedy and shameful that after eighty years of public investment in higher education we have hardly any thing to show in return for our economy other than bunch of people having titles before and after their names who depend on these poor blue collar workers’ productivity for their survival. As exemplified again and again when there is any technology need we have to run to foreigners, the latest being the discovery of oil deposits where there is zero input from local experts. And those who are engaging in corruption desecrate the memory of 29 thousand heroes who gave their live so that others and these scoundrels can live in peace.

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    Sena,

There is no disagreement here among all the commentators on,

    1. the need to stop exporting housemaids to barbaric Saudi
    2. the need to stop/reduce corruption
    3. the need to respect 26,500 war heroes and the need to treat ALL Tamil Elamists like excreta/DIRT.

    Everyone agrees.

    a. But turning the national/international problem of corruption into a party POLITICAL BS game is a problem in itself.

    b. Tamil Elamist campaign within and outside SL is part of the corruption problem. Those 2 must be looked at as a whole not individually. Even today TE NGOs are funding poltiicians, NGO workers, other MFs to the tune of millions if not billions of dollars to do whatever it takes to create TE. Look at the salary of that P Saravanmuttu ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT earning a 7 figure monthly income whereas the army commander’s salary is only 6 figures. I can go on and on about corruption. We all know this. That is why these 2 issues should be looked at as one.

That is the point of disagreement.

  17. nandimitra Says:

we sri lankans suffer from the monkey syndrome. hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil but see no evil in corruption the death knell to any community. it was churchill who mentioned that humans tend to nothing until it becomes an emergency. well are we waiting for the 4th insurrection? The death and destruction is something the country cant afford this time round. yes by all means give credit to winning the war also take heed of the propaganda but for gods sake let us not be naive to think that we can afford this kind of corruption and ignore the possibility of future violence

  18. sena Says:

    Lorenzo,
Agreed with your comments. But there is no party affiliation with corruption. As it stand, with every incoming government there has been increasing level of corruption, lack of accountability, lack of prosecution of corruption. All the public laws and institutions are at the whims of those who are in power (they should be independent). This is a very sad and frustrating situation that may lead to unrest and no need to mention a big help for those who are conspiring to do harm. The end of war presented an unique opportunity to end this trend by enticing patriotism through remembering the sacrifices to make people work hard and cultivate social integrity. However it seems that this is not the case, the culture of corruption with no repercussions continues.

  19. ranjith Says:

If we ban sending housemaids to work in foreign soil, Sri Lanka will lose heavily earning foreign exchange.

After the war, most of the breadwinners are now in N & E are women. Sri Lanka doesn’t have enough resources to provide employment to those breadwinners. We are struggling hard to pay the debts what we owed from outside.

Ariawathi’s or Rizana’s problems should be dealt through diplomatically and international laws and not by banning employments in foreign countries for housemaids.

  20. pam Says:

Pulle, I can’t stop laughing at your “funny” suggestions.
Whatever corruption that is going on internally is nothing compared to the threat to the SL nation
posed by the murderous LTTE and the current hate-filled parts of the Tamil
    Diaspora.

  21. Raju Says:

    This guy is hilarious.

Tamils continue to unload hate, vilification and demonisation of Sinhalese (for 60 years) and expect us to ignore it? Calling our natural countering against their never ending vicious deceptions and LIES an “obsession”? Who are the ones that are obsessed with Sri Lanka and Sinhalese when they do not even LIVE in Sri Lanka or have any intention of doing so? Does this Tamil expect us to take things coming from his kind lying down? Does he have a problem that we are fighting back? Typical racist Tamil with a racist mentality wielding a superiority complex.

Why don’t you fix your own broken community and end the hatred you pummel against us? Shame Sinhalese were not like the North Indians or Malays, then we’d have no damn problem at all –and you lot know that, which is why you have targeted us, accuse us of various “crimes” against humanity in one vile breath while in the other call us “Modayas”. Must HURT a LOT these modayas defeated you super geniuses and must hurt even more that we refuse to be beaten by you vicious venom tongues.

Come back and talk when the Tamil communities stop its vicious lies, when you end your chauvinistic ways and supremacist ideology.

  22. Lorenzo Says:

    Sena,

    Absolutely.

Corruption in SL is linked to separatism, neo-colonialism and the Tamil Diaspora through NGOs, etc. If this element can be put down, it is a very good start. In my view, the remaining corruption (after putting down TE linked corruption) is something we have to put up with (including some infrequent punishments for corruption as it happens) until we reach the next level of development where people will demand transparency, etc.

Rate of corruption (when TE links are excluded) is much less than the rate of development. Reaching the next development stage is the only way to end/reduce it permanently.

Corruption is not the main problem why the govt stuffed things up after winning the war.

There is nothing done to politically SCREW separatists after the war. We need a mechanism to politically SCREW Tamil, etc. separatists to permanently defeat separatism.

e.g. TNA is coming back to where TULF was in 1977

  23. Lorenzo Says:

    Raju,

“Shame Sinhalese were not like the North Indians or Malays, then we’d have no damn problem at all –and you lot know that, which is why you have targeted us, accuse us of various “crimes” against humanity in one vile breath while in the other call us “Modayas”.”

Yes. Otherwise why would Tamil Nadu language speakers fight for a separate Tamil Nadu language speaking nation in SL? Why can’t they do it in India or Malaysia where there are more Tamil Nadu language speakers? Because they know they will be totally hammered if they try it there. SL still is their easiest target.

We should convince Tamil Nadu language speaking separatists that SL is the WORST PLACE for them to have a Tamil region/state/nation. It is SO UNSAFE that they better search for another place to have their nest.

  24. nandimitra Says:

Corruption is fueled by capital. Who are the people with capital in SL? It is the Tamils, Muslims and the minorities. There fore who gains by corruption is obvious. It is certainly not the Majority. So let the sinhala nationalist take heed that defending corruption is not in their best interests wheter this article was Tamil propaganda or not is immaterial. The sinhalese who are part of this massive corruption are traitors to the sinhala nation.

  25. Lorenzo Says:

More Muslims should be sent as housemaids until the problem can be economically resolved.

They stand a better chance of avoiding abuse. Rizana is accused of murdering an infant which is a grave offence. Wathi has not committed any such crime but she was treated inhumanely.

All Muslims who want to live under Sharia Law should be sent to Saudi where Sharia Law exists. For them it will be like going to heaven. They are happy, we are happy.

  26. Raju Says:
