Having finished with armed terrorism , Sri Lanka is faced with another sort of “terrorism” of the JVP

Vijitha Herath of the JVP -now bursting apart because of the craving of its Leadership trying to ride on the shoulders of a mislead youth to political power, continues to think that its path to political leadership in the country lies in continued bashing of the Rajapakse Government.

Vijitha HerathƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s article to Daily Mirror on 15.10.2011 on ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Duplicitous government ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚« is inappropriate both as coming from a political party now breaking apart and also in view of the present Internationa political developments.

It is because of the disunity of the political parties in Sri Lanka that the International Community lead by the likes of brain blocked, nose dripping Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper crying loud about an accountability by Sri Lanka over violation of human rights, to distract the world from the NATO initiated killing spree in Libya without any respect for human right issues.

TNA has become a party overtly working against the unity of the Communities. They are more a group of anti Sri Lanka Tamils working with TamilNadu, India , and USA to divide the country like their masters the late terrorists had been trying to do for last thirty years. In that context it is dangerous that TNA are working against the Prevention of Terrorism Act. What are their intentions ? TNA , it is said was snubbed by the Russian Embassy when they wanted to bring up their grouse before the Ambassador !

JVP knows that during the whole of the thirty years of terrorism in Sri Lanka the International Community never stepped into help Sri Lanka to free itself of terrorism. But cultivated a close relationship with the terrorists as the Sri Lanka terrorists did not pose a threat to the countries of the International Community.

The JVP if really a Marxist party of the people should have supported the government after elimination of the terrorisms to reconcile and unify the communities instead of waging a political opposition worse than the terrorists. The JVP is counteracting in the progressive development projects of the government and not working in the interest of the country. It is evident that the JVP is seeking their own consolidation of political power for selfish motives. They are not being patriotic and working for the peace and progress of the country.

No Marxist Party in the world had come into power through a Parliamentary elections. If they have to seek some type of political power in the country they have to work with a popular socialist party. A Marxist rebellion will not be successful in Sri Lanka. In Cuba Castro did not go against the people .

JVP is not a people friendly political party, but a virulent, aggressive and arrogant group of idealists. They seek political power on the one hand by misleading the youth drawing them away from their religious and cultural ties to wards an unpatriotic aggressive politics of a pseudo Marxist JVP and on the other hand by enticing the workers to strike holding the carrot of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-salary hikeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ before them. But the youth as they grow up and become open to reality of the negative aspect of JVP will abandon the party, and so will the workers when they realize there is more in being a patriot than working for a salary hikes.

Today JVP is seeing another major breakup because of misconception of political leadership of the JVP . Vijitha Herath, Tilvin Silva, Somawanasa Amarasingh, Anura Dissanayake and Lal Kantha have done lot of damage to a party which had a potential political future.

Vijitha Herath says, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚« The Rajapaksa government again acts as if it has both ends on fire. On the one hand claiming that the international community is pressuring Sri Lanka unduly and on the other hand complying with the pressure and releasing reports to international organizations. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚»

Vijitha Herath is ignorant of the present Western political trend, and hence does not understand the dilemma into which the Rajapakse Government has been put. The Rajapakse Government is trying to save the country being decapitated by an irresponsible , unconcerned International Community which has lost its democratic political vision taking a destructive path of destabilising developing countries drawing them into the Western hegemony.

The West has the NATO power with Stephen HarperƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Canada, CameronsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s UK, SarkozyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s France and Hillary ClintonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s USA providing the arms and ammunition to destroy developing countries subjugating them setting up puppet governments of their choice, in the modern Colonization project of the developing countries undertaken by the International Community.

In that situation the Rajapakse Government has to act cautiously taking a middle path without acting in haste which may be self destructive. In this situation the part that is being played by TNA is extremely dangerous for the Country apart from whose Government is in power in Sri Lanka.

This is a National Issue and JVP and UNP have to stop their wanton criticism of the government and rally round to show that the Country is united against any international intervention. TNA are not patriotic Sri LankanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s despite their having won the Provincial Council in the local government elections. They won because the Tamils cannot think beyond their being Tamils. All that counts for them is their Tamilness.

Vijitha Herath of the JVP states:

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…- Local media reported that the PresidentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Special Human Rights Envoy Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe had successfully nullified all accusations that had come up at the end of the sessions.

However, the true story is being revealed now. The government has now hastily prepared a diplomatic report to display its obedience to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The government, through this report, has attempted to show its dedication for the rights of the displaced, prevention of torture, civil, political and workers’ rights, the rights of women and children. ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

There is nothing wrong in trying to pacify the Frankenstein monsters being unleashed by the West, until the country is developed at least up to a reasonable extent, before the Government is free to defend its integrity and fight ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-still unknownƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ forces that may yet be unleashed against Sri Lanka by the International Community backed by the Pro-terrorist Sri Lanka Tamil expatriates, themselves a separatists Tamil Community without any patriotic attachment to Sri Lanka.

This JVP ignoramus Vijitha Herath plays into the hands of the foreign enemies of Sri Lanka in his pretentions statement , ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Despite attempting to hide matters by bringing in several sectors, it is no secret that the main issues are questions about the displaced and the suppression of democracy in the country.

Even though two years have passed since the end of the war, the government has not been able to solve the issue of the displaced people successfully nor has it been able to properly establish democracy in the country. This has degraded the Rajapaksa government before the international community. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚»

During the two years after the elimination of terrorism this Government has done yeoman service to bring Sri Lanka from being a developing country to a economically developped country. This is despite the 30 years of a ruthless terrorism and never ending non-cooperating aggressive West out to destroy Sri Lanka with a regime change accusing it for war crimes as they have been doing incessantly during the past years in so many other developing countries.

This for no other reason than to appease the Pro terrorists Sri Lanka Tamil Expatriate Community in these respective countries who have become a politically important vote bank.

The Government cannot solves all problems that had accumulated for the last 30 years all at once. One has to move slowly taking local and International moves into account. It is easy to be arm chair critics, but Governing a Country is not as easy.

Hillary Clinton the USA Secretary of State has caused the unpopularity of the President Barrack Obama with her short sited foreign policies. She is being lead by her nose by Robert O Blake a Sri Lanka Terrorist sympathizer to discuss political matters of Sri Lanka once with Jayalalithata of TamilNadu and now with the terrorist proxi-TNA to review Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s internal affairs.

It may be that the TNA is seeking the withdrawal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act on the advice of the International Community so that manifestations like Hunger Strikes in Vavuniya, and such other manifestations led by the TNA could be used for an International Libya style Intervention with the NATO force in Sri Lanka.

The JVP instead of taking note of the situation and adopting a protective stand along with the government is indirectly assisting the TNAƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s vicious separatist intention and may be assisting a foreign intervention in Sri Lanka.

Vijitha Herath makes a short sited shoddy statement :

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚« The government has to bow down to such degradations and disparaging statements as a result of its undiplomatic conduct. The government appears to have had no vision regarding the post-war environment as well as of other sectors. The government did not take much interest in the resettlement of the displaced people in the North and the East. Furthermore they took no account of the issues faced by those whose loved ones had gone missing or their lands dispossessed. Instead, the government is more interested in using the war victory to win sporadically held elections. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚»

JVP under Somawansa Amarasinghe, Tilvin Silva ,Vijitha Herath, Anura Dissanayaka and Lal Kantha has done more damage to Sri Lanka than the Terrorists . The terrorists were a force that could have been fought with arms, but the JVP led manifestations and assistance to foreign enemies by its constant unsubstantiated criticism of the Government are also a different type of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-terrorismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ . This ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-terrorismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ of JVP is against their own country trying with difficulty to climb out of the 30 years of destruction to develop and establish peace and unity.

This ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-terrorismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ of JVP cannot be subdued by arms, but it could be ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-eliminatedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ only with the intelligent understanding of its own leaders the damage they are knowingly or unknowingly doing to the country, and its people, in not taking a supportive move towards the Government.

Just in case you have missed it Aus, here’s an apt reminder

True… I had no idea that Deputy Defence Secy Duminda Silva (alias ‘kudu Duminda) was JVP!!!! None so blind as those who refuse to see!!!!

  3. Lorenzo Says:

Somawansa Amarasinghe, Tilvin Silva ,Vijitha Herath, Anura Dissanayaka and Lal Kantha are nothing compared to Duminda Silva.

Duminda was watching too many Tamil Nadu films!

  4. sarath Says:

    Charles,

You may have forgotten that armed terrorism was started in 1971 by JVP. We lost nearly 15,000 youths. Again in 1987- 89, they created another armed struggle costed around 50,000. I don’t know these extracts are true but worth noticing. Please see below extracts from wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_JVP_Insurrection

“The 1971 uprising led by the Sinhalese Sri Lankan People’s Liberation Front, or Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, was an unsuccessful Marxist youth rebellion that claimed 15,000 youth lives.”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987%E2%80%9389_JVP_Insurrection
The 1987-89 insurrection in Sri Lanka, in which around 50,000 lives were lost[citation needed], was carried out by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, a Marxist Sinhalese political party in Sri Lanka.

According to international terrorism expert Dr. Rohan Gunaratna’s research, JVP killed 106 politicians, 62 academics, 32 clergy, 137 government officials, 8392 civillians and 659 service personnel, from July 1987 to January 1990. Rest of the killings (at least 30,000) are attributed to state or state sponsored death squads.[a]

I don’t think put the blame on international community or accusing JVP, TNA, UNP, SLFP is not going to bring peace and love in Sri Lanka. Beyond the party politics there are something wrong in our political system that lead to the violence. I think we need open discussions about how to bring rule of law beyond party politics.

  5. LankaLover Says:

Now the JVP has been captured by the LTTE faction of JVP, who are working under the guidance of LTTE greased Hilary/Robert O’ Blake agenda. That’s how the DNA was formed – because of the LTTE faction of JVP.

The LTTE faction have the money and international sponsorship (unlike Somawansa Faction), and they have got the Student Union also to their hand. Their next move may be to enact another Libya here.

We have to ask the question why expected be patriotic JVP did not open its mouth about US backed LTTE driven bogus ‘War Crimes’ allegations about Sri Lankan Government in the past few years.

  6. Rohan8 Says:

JVP are a murderous criminal bunch. Who can forget their brutal criminality in the late 1980s in Sri Lanka they were matching Prabhakaran and the LTTE for sheer Evil as they murdered innocent people Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim in cold blood. It is a amazing these criminals have a voice in post war Sri Lanka politics. They do not serve the good of Sri Lanka or the long term future well being of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan people should reject them and all other political parties who place getting into power at any cost over the long term good and well being of Sri Lanka. UNP comes into this group too at the moment. Sri Lanka paid a heavy price for the victory over the tigers and gained a hard won peace, which can be squandered away in no time. Sri Lankan people of all hues have suffered in enough in the last 30 years. Only the Sri Lankan people can say no to these clowns and put them out of business permanently. The future destiny of Sri Lanka ultimately rests with the Sri Lankan people. Not the politicians. Due respect has to be paid to the Mahinda Rajapaksha govt. for eradicating the 30 year menace of the LTTE.

  7. Charles Says:

Political thuggery and political assassinations in Sri Lanka are not a new phenomenon. It came along with the democratic sytem of elections introduced by the colonial governments.
What is sad is that they continue unabated during practically every election.

This is mostly because wrong people are being selected as representatives of the people to contest elections. It is also a part of what we have inherited from poltical party rivalry. Political parties should have a more cordial approach to each other, as under a democratic system a government or a President elected for a period of time by a majority should be allowed to carry on their duties until the end of that period . In the mean time there should be healthy criticism, but not beastly rivalry.

The political assainations and thuggery are not factors that would cause intervention by foreign enemies. It is the political rivalry and rebellious moves against the Government by other political parties that would instigate the foreign enemies to intervene into internal affairs of the country through the rebelious elements.

That is why JVP and UNP should in the present context adopt another democratic means of criticising the government, without wanting to topple a democratically elected goverment by constant call for strikes, and criticising the activities of the government even if they know that the Government is doing the best in the interest of the copuntry and the people. These activities of JVP and UNP are simply for their own political interests and not in the interest of the country

  8. Raj Says:

All this Duminda Silva’s business has nothing to do with this article. Some of these commenters seem to be just anti government, waiting to spot an error.

  9. jayt Says:

Democracy is not product of SL, but it is product of the West. However, similar system was existed in the monarch system in SL in the past like getting public opinion on certain matters. After 1950s, when colonial Europe left other countries, they saved monarchies whose system will be good for them in the future and destroyed the monarchs system that will not be good for them in the future. For example, Saudi, Gulf states, Jordan, Morocco and some others, they left as the way they are but no guarantee in the future they may destroy these monarchies, and it depends on what West want in the future.

Shia in Baharain did not get support this time around because they need Sunny Monarchies against Shia Iran. But all can change in the future. Once, they supported Sunny Sadam against Shia Iran. This time, they will be directing Sunny Saudis against Shia Iran. After all, Saudis may face same fate as Sadam.

  10. jayt Says:

in this comment, What I want to point out is that when there is free political system, Sinhalese crooks & criminal do not enjoy it, and if the system like Monarchy system is reintroduce, the same crook & criminals who opposed democracy will fight for democracy. So, what do you want? You have childhood problem? Yes, They do. Sinhalese children are destroyed when they are young by dragging them into political rallies. Rallies are all year around. Children are mentally disturbed by poison words, noise of loud speakers and booing political gangs. BY 18, they are already naturally trained to be proxy thugs of political warlords.

  11. Sri Rohana Says:

Charles I think it is not worth to talk of JVP at this moment. After (1964-2011) 47 years of politics they managed only a seat in Colombo Municipal council that also thanks to JRJ’s preferential voting system.
People of Colombo gave a slap on the face of JVP’s reactionary right wing gang. Now their CIA, MI6 agents Karunanayaka, Ranil, Sampanthan and SF also abandon Somawansa, Dissanayaka and Herath. Unfortunately this was an insult that JVP exhibit great philosophers such as Karl Marx, Engel’s and Lenin’s pictures and stood shoulder to shoulder with CIA agent’s Ranil, RK and Sampanthan on the same stage for SF’s election campaign. Even unemployed youths have not voted to them. Alas this is the end results of urban red shirts lumpens got throughout the history.

  12. sarath Says:

I agree that JVP and UNP should actively involved with mass protests like strike to achieve their goals rather than falling in the hands of foregin powers. However, I don’t agree that JVP and UNP are the only two parties that keep their party interest in the first than the national interest. For example, President Rajapakse was in the side of JVP during 1987-89 violence. He went in front of UN for human rights violations against President Premadasa’s government (against our forces). We also should take into account the fact that our media is under constant threat and people are targetted by the government who raise their voice and unlawful killings. So we should not point the fingers one way or another. We should have common principles of rule of law irrespective of any political organisation.

  13. Charles Says:

    Sarath,

We are a distant away from 1987-89. Today- Sri Lanka is one of the very few developing countries breaking through into economic development. This is an eye sore for the West . Therefore their interest in destabilizing Sri Lanka and if possible divide the country territorially, so that it will not repeat a development process in future as it is doing now.

Therefore it is in every one’s interest to protect the unity of the country not to allow the foreign enemies to intervene to make us again a poor developing country dependent on the West.

What we seem to ignore is the part that is being played by TNA. The TNA MPs are not patriotic Sri Lankans. They are working hand in hand with separatists such as the LTTE pro-terrorists expatriate Sri Lanka Tamil Community,TamilNadu, a section of Indian politicians, Robert O Blake, Hillary Clinton and the rest of the anti Sri Lanka International Community, to divide Sri Lanka and get the International Community to set up a Tamil Eelam in the North.

If we put our hands down now and say “….. JVP and UNP should actively involved with mass protests like strike to achieve their goals rather than falling in the hands of foregin powers” as you say, we may even see Sri Lanka becoming the Libya of tomorrow, bombed by NATO , all infrastructure developments destroyed and become slaves of the West with a puppet government set up by the West.

  14. Charles Says:

    Sarath,

Is that what you want ?

  15. sarath Says:

    Dear Charles,
I don’t want Sri Lanka to be another Libiya or middle east. It is obvious that West and some other countries have an eye on Sri Lanka to destablizing Sri Lanka. It is difficult judge who is in the West or East is good friend of Sri Lanka. For example, NATO did all the bad things in Libiya but Libiya’s traditional friends (China and Russia) kept silence. There was another side we need to look as well. Colonel Gadaffi, the librator of Libiya become dictator to keep his power and people of Libiya couldn’t tolerate the violation of human rights against his political enemies. The opportunistic West used that opportunity very well. So, it is the Governments responsibility to make sure the citizen of this country gets equal treatment and the rule of law acts according to law, not by the criminals, thugs and powerful politician’s own rule. I agree we can’t trust TNA or Tamil Nadu or LTTE but we should treat tamils and muslims respecting their grievances and rights. Similarly, You can’t trust Karuna, Pillaiyan, Douglas and KP who are also seperatists and opportunistics. If the punishment of former army commander Sarath Fonseka is right then the killers of Lasantha and Paratha also should get the same punishment. If we fail in this approach to bring justice then we are going on the same way to Libiya.
Do we want that happen in Sri Lanka? Prevention is always preferred option.

  16. Charles Says:

    Sarath

Perhaps it is not correct for me to enter into a debate in the comment format of the Lankaweb,

But I just want to say that Libya did not have a democratic system of government in our sense. It was an accepted tribal leadership. I think Gaddafi wanted to keep away the West from intruding into Libya and that is why he ruled Libya the way he did. It was a sort of Iron Curtain of the Communists countries like Russia and China. Gaddafi gave his people a higher standard of living than for those in other Arab states. The people would not have gone against him if not for a rebel group in far Bengazi who were exploited by Sarkozy and we know what happened thereafter.

Sri Lanka is just coming out of a 30 years of suffering through guns, bombs, and snipers where human life had lost value. To rebuild the country and rid the country of killers, drug mudalalies etc. would take a long time. We should therefore be patient as we have the correct leadership in place.

We have been lethargic about safeguarding the interest of our country. It is time to open our eyes to see that there may be worst to come, while we cry over, Sarath Fonseka, Lasantha, criminality and thugs. These are little fry in the Western Agenda

  17. radha Says:

Ramanie ….. Kudu Duminda was in JVP? How do you know this? Was he in JVP to spy for JRJ gang? BTW could someone please enlighten me how Duminda got this honorary title “Kudu” to precede his name.

It is true that JVP massacred thousands of innocent civilians, but because of them JVPers themselves, along with thousands of other innocent civilians, got massacred by JRJ gang and his Green Tigers. We all know that and I just hope Charles would put a balanced story next time. It all comes down to power hungry politicians of all shades.

Today Sri Lanka faces a real problem. Gaining popular vote is being individually interpreted as a blank cheque for indulging in dictatorship. Any other law abiding nation would agree that if a citizen would live or die would be decided by a Court of Law at the highest level through a proper and transparent legal process , and not by a politician in power based on his whim or summary decisions. The current drift of the politicians is certainly unhealthy and those outside Sri Lanka view it as a break down of law and order, and violation of Human Rights.
