Apsara is collecting signatures

So, FonsekaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s daughter, Apsara is collecting signatures for a petition to get President Obama to consider commanding Fonseka out of Sri Lanka prison.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I agree that ObamaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s predecessor and his wild pack had invaded Iraq illegally. I accept that they did drop depleted uranium bombs and killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. And I admit that Obama had manipulated to pass a UN resolution on Libya in the guise of saving protesters but skewed it to help change its government and kill its leader.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But Apsara should have pondered whether Obama can order her father out of Sri Lankan prison let alone change Rajapakse government. She should understand that Sri Lanka is no Libya or it is in the Middle East. Apsara should not forget that ObamaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s appeal or rather order to let Piripakaran and his gang surrender to a third party was rejected outright by Rajapakse. But we havenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t seen any US marines or Norwegian subs attempting to save the terrorists.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Alas! Her and her familyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s swollen pride doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t let their brains reason out basic realities: Only her father coming to senses would get him out of his quandary. Only President Rajapakse can pardon him and set him free. While writing to transcurrent.com to spread her principles and thereby to help collect 25,000 or so signatures, she is asking its readers; what wrong has he (Fonseka) done to be in prison? And I have listed there a few reasons why I wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t sign her petition.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I feel pity, Apsara doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t know that subscribers to transcurrent are primarily LTTE sympathizers. She should read views of its majority commentators to understand their position: Most of them hate Fonseka and others donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t care two hoots about his plight but solution for the national problem, meaning self determination, meaning Eelam. MP Sumanthiran and Councillor Praba Ganshan who sat together with Ven.Sobitha recently to demand for social justice and all their compatriots in the TNA are rowing in the same boat. Read their statement and interviews, you will see that they havenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t changed the tune they played during the hay days of LTTE. What enlightenment Ven. Sobitha had reached of late we are yet to see. Fortunately vast majority of people in this country are not with these opportunists.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I agree with Apsara that her father Sarath Fonseka had played a major role to win the war for us and no doubt a war hero. But would Fonseka get a chance to be a war hero had President Rajapakse not forced the then army commander, Kottegoda to retire, extended FonsekaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s retirement date for a year and promoted him as the Army commander? No. What makes Fonseka think he is the only man who could have done that job? Kottegoda had said he could do it. What about Janaka Perera? For one thing, if not for President RajapakseƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s said action, Fonseka would have retired in December 2005 not as a war hero but as another Major General period

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We should ask whether Fonseka been grateful to President Rajapakse for appointing him to lead the army? The emphatic answer is NO. Instead, he secretly planned to contest the impending Presidential election against Rajapakse while in uniform. Leave out its legality or illegality aside, the question should be whether contesting against the man who gave him a chance to be a war hero is moral. For one thing, we know that Eisenhower, the popular overall commander in European theatre of WW11 had patiently waited for President TrumanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s two terms to end before he contested for the US Presidency.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Let’s face it, Fonseka had not look up to the contest with civility but had uttered the most unwarranted things in an unacceptable language during the campaign for he lived in a foolƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s paradise and was cock sure winning Sri Lanka Presidency. We have heard all of it. So one can only say, Fonseka is only reaping what he had sown.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Besides, except for Rajapakse haters that supported Fonseka blindly, all others knew that the UNP, JVP and TNA combine that sponsored and backed Fonseka’s candidacy for Presidency were a total misfit. Threesome had nothing in common then or now: The UNP runs on a capitalist track; the JVP on a Marxist track; and TNA on a Separatists track.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But Fonseka couldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t care less. All that egotistic Fonseka wanted was to grab power and teach Rajapakses a lesson. During the election campaign, willingly or unwillingly, his bad mouth had spited out all his future plans and what he would do to Rajapakses and those who opposed him when he becomes the President.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now both fractions of the JVP says joining Fonseka campaign had been a mistake. In this light, I would like to point out to Ven. Sobhita, had Fonseka won presidency, it is not grease devils, white vans or other odd disorders that Sri Lanka would be facing today but much severe mayhem like JVP sponsored civil commotions and TNA sponsored separatism.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Pity, Ven. Sobitha doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t see that it is in the hope of these nastier eventualities that the TNA had signed an agreement with Fonseka. And TNA pals, Tamil Diaspora and rump LTTE got their kith and kin in Sri Lanka to vote for Fonseka. Ven Sobitha’s mother hails from the same village I live. So, as a compatriot, I suggest Ven. Sobitha read comments by rump LTTE in transcurrent.com to understand their stand today on Fonseka and more importantly on Eelam issue before he contemplate about social justice.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Getting back to the point, Fonseka being a puppet of the US, though hypothetical, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”president FonsekaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ would have certainly been compelled to let TNA have what Pirapakaran couldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t get and settle down to rule the south of Sri Lanka like another Duvalier. In the end FonsekaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Sri Lanka would have been another Haiti.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thanks for Rajapakses, peace prevails all over Sri Lanka.

Which fool would beleive 25,000 signatures would give USA the right to interfere in SL?

Apsara is trying to save her husband – Danuna’s corrupt, illegal businesses.

    Some Tamil groups support Fonska.
Certain other Tamil groups claim that it is DEVINE JUSTICE.

Fonseka killed so many Tamils, according to them, and now he is getting his “return”.
Fonseka caused so much pain of seperation to so many Tamil families, according to them, and now his family is getting due “return”.

Fonseka, Apsara and the crowd merging with the LTTE/TNA is very dangerous. We should create divisions among them and pit one against the other.

  2. douglas Says:

Mr. President Obama – If you have time to read this petition of 25,000 signatures and before deciding on any action to be taken (most probably it will go down the paper shredder in your OVAL Office), think of the saying”

“AN OPEN ENEMY IS BETTER THAN A HOLLOW FRIEND”.

It is better to deal with HE Mahinda Rajapaksa (an enemy to the West and US) than this newly found HOLLOW FRIEND – Sarath Fonseka. You are much safer with our President than with this newly introduced friend Sarath.

Hope you will not commit the same mistake committed by our President.

We villagers in Sri Lanka says it this way: “Ahaka Yana Nai Redda Asse Dagena, Kanawa Kanawa Kiyanna Epa”

Please get someone in your circle who introduces this Sarath Fonseka (perhaps the best would be Upsara) to translate it to English. You will realize the value of it.

  3. Devinda Fernando Says:

*** Which fool would beleive 25,000 signatures would give USA the right to interfere in SL? ***

Probably the same Hundred Thousand fools who blocked the streets of Toronto and London waving Eelam Flags back in 2009.

  4. AnuD Says:

This is the second such letter.

Though majority Buddhist Sri Lanka does not acknowledge it, everybody has like freedom.

Why she can not talk to free her father.

    For me this is BULLYING.

  5. AnuD Says:

The same gang that criticizes SF in LNP, talk here too.

    Come on HL.

  6. Ariya Says:

“So, Fonseka’s daughter, Apsara is collecting signatures for a petition to get President Obama to consider commanding Fonseka out of Sri Lanka prison.”

    Is that correct?

So now Apsara is doing what Sarath Fonseka wanted? To get the ‘foreign’ elements to interfere in our country’s affairs. Let Obama try. His fate would be just like Prabakaran’s.

If Apsara is a US citizen, she should not be allowed in to Sri Lanka any more. Our country’s government and judiciary is ours. Our country is a sovereign country.

Apsara as a US citizen meddling with our country’s affairs equals to treason.

  7. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

Sarath Fonseka ‘s daughter must surely be living in a dream world. She is trying to coerce
the President of the USA into breaking protocols which would compromise his integrity and interfere into the internal affairs of a sovereign nation which will never happen. The President of the United States of America is a wise and pragmatic man inasmuch as the President of Sri Lanka is where the sentiments of a daughter attempting to seek recourse for her father who acted out of turn big time, sad as it may seem is futile and the long arm of justice unfortunately has no reservations nor privileges related to title or status if there are proven charges against anyone who has attempted to compromise the integrities that hold together the sovereignity of a nation in an atempted betrayal of same towards his or her ambition and beyond impunity!

  8. Hiranthe Says:

Apsara should add to the letter the following:
“Because MR finished the war, Apsara’s husband could not involve in dealing with Arms and Ammunition any more, which could have saved US economy.(ha..ha). So therefore, Mahinda Rajapaksa is an enemy of US. Gota is an enemy of US.
If SF comes to power, TNA will be given the North and East. JVP will start another trouble in South, All the released LTTE’rs will get better training from US and there opens a big market for US weapons…
We can see the revival of US economy… Therefore help us get rid os MR”

IF SHE ADDS THIS, OBAMA WILL DEFENITELY COME ON BOARD… NO NEED OF 25,000 SIGNATURES. HE JUST NEEDS SOME LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL…

Lukily for SL only few Colombians and university “Anthare” guys can be bought by US unlike Egypt for organising a mass uprising… If not Hilary Clinton would have done it by now.
Thanks to Lal Kantha, Somawansa and Rannil and SF…. for help opening the minds of working class and ordinary men.

  9. aravinda Says:

Mahinda Rajapaksa won with 59% of popular vote. Polls show his approval rating is over 90%. Why did this young lass stop at 25,000 signatures. Why not 10 million. That is what President Rajapaksa could gather if he wants.

This looks like another ploy to keep Mr.Fonseka’s plight in the limelight. The best for Mr.Fonseka is to come out clean about things he planned and seek Presidential pardon. Mr.Rajapaksa is a very reasonable man with empathy towards even his political enemies.

  10. Christie Says:

Apsara has to collect a lot more signatures to get a hearing from the White House. At last count she had just close to 5k. She needs another 20k to fulifil her ambition.

I am sure pettisioners to White House has to com from the US. Hardly any pettitioners are from the US and most of them looks like from Ceylon (Sri Lanka).

Apsar, Anoma and the in law should look after the haul until SF leaves the prison so he can enjoy part of the haul.

Apsara should tell the world who paid and howmuch for SF’s presidential campaign.

  11. Christie Says:

Apsara is CBK, SF is SWRD.

  12. Lorenzo Says:

    Why 25,000 signatures?

    Good point!

SF won 2,000,000+ votes, so why 25,000 now? Doesn’t it show a TREMENDOUS drop in his popularity?

SF was given a fair trial. Judges were divided 2-1 over his verdict. No one complained about malpractice in the high court case. Then why this nonsense?

    AnuD,

She has no right to conspire with a foreign nation/CIA to interfere in SL. She has enough means within the SL legal system to get her father out. Why isn’t she trying out those?

  13. Christie Says:

Let us do a bit of forensic accounting:
If I remeber correct Apsaras mother in law had about half a million US$ in her poseesion. There was no evidence that ahe earned it.
If we assume that is part of the down payment for SF to contest and win the election wit all election expenses paid.

How much will give you to your mother in law if you got some illegal haul assuming you have avenues to keep all the money safely some where.

    I will gve about 1%.

So SF’s down payment is 50 million US$. This is not a lot when Raj Rajaratnam was worth $ 7 billion.

  14. Raju Says:

    @ Lasantha,

People in Sri Lanka are extremely short sighted and selfish in many ways. They are easily blinded by herd mentality and political tunnel vision. There is little thought put into tomorrow or next week. It is all about today and “now”.

As we saw with the war and peoples attitudes many could not care if the country disintegrated tomorrow if it meant they (or their party from which they hope to get benefits) could come to power.

There is a great deal of impatience resulting in long term suffering.

  15. Christie Says:

Wiping out of Tamil terrorism from the Island nation was a great defeat for the country that was behind the terrorists.

So as it had done as far back as 1951 managed to fund SWRD it did pay and funded SF.
