The US involvement in pushing for War Crimes Investigation against Sri Lanka

Anjalika Silva ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” A Sri Lankan American registered Democrat voter from Maryland USA

To The Honorable Hillary ClintonƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Secretary of State

Madam Secretary, as a US Citizen of Sri Lankan origin who supported you and contributed to your campaign in 2008, with a steady voting record as a Democrat, I am disappointed and shocked at the risks you are taking to push Sri Lanka into a corner for achieving what the US has not been able to do for many years.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  My disappointment borders on anger at what the Sri Lanka issue is doing to divide the people in my country of birth and the immigrants in the US at a time when we are doing our utmost to heal and reconcile.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

I hope you recognize that the push against Sri Lanka comes from one minority ethnic group that does not even represent a majority of their minority race.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Therefore, your support is tantamount to racism and a racist push to bring back chaos to Sri Lanka by a group pushing the country to the brink to create a mono-ethnic homeland for a few.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The next step will be to rule it with brutality.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t want a Syria, or Egypt or Libya created by an extreme group that pushes the US for support in a regime change for Sri Lanka to derail the peace and rebuilding efforts.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The undertones are very clear to those of us who understand the political agenda and fate of leaders in past history who have their focus on their people and resist domination from external forces. We visit and continue to have family in Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As a US citizen I speak with one voice both for my country of birth Sri Lanka and my adopted homeland the US to quell terrorism at any cost whether it is in the open or is surreptitious strategies as seen by us here in the US.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We are fully aware that your actions against Sri Lanka pushing for a war crimes investigation is influenced by biased and inaccurate lobbying by a few who have blood on their hands having killed more Tamil people who were dissidents while carrying on a charade as their protectors.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Their human rights and war crimes record is not under scrutiny as they were a terror group that you believed were freedom fighters. This inequality alone should not be a credible force to pit a pro terror group agenda against an elected Government.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Today, if you were to speak to the Tamil people of Sri Lanka, they will tell you the truth that their dream of peace has come to them through President Mahinda Rajapakse.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The people of Sri Lanka lived a nightmare for 30 years and the UNHCR turned the other way for that long.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Tamil Civilians suffered the most as the LTTE ruled them with brutality taking away their children as young as seven years.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Ugandan LRAƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Joseph Kony was no different to Prabhakaran of the LTTE. We the Sri Lankan Americans in the US were drowned and not heard for many years.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Our people were being blown up on the streets by snipers and suicide bombers who introduced it first in Sri Lanka and now trade it to Al-Qaida.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Your attention to War Crimes concentrates on a small window of those 30 years taking into account only the end of a war in May 2009.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Stemming from that more recently the propaganda created by the death of one young child of the most ruthless terrorist as declared by the FBI has become a focal point with disregard for thousands of ordinary children killed by the LTTE.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Who spoke for them?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The claim that 300,000 civilians died in the hands of the Army needs to be clarified with some of the civilians among the human shield that survived with the help of the Sri Lanka Army.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They tell the tale today fearlessly as they can now speak freely.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  IsnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t that democracy? They have been reinstated in their lands with mines cleared and the development has to be seen to be believed.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The children of all ethnicities that died cannot ask for a platform on channel 4 or the UNHCR proceedings to refute justification of the brutal fate they suffered in the hands of the LTTE.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  There are thousands of victims of all races who lost their lives in senseless suicide bombings on the streets and in places of worship that included Buddhist Shrines, Churches and Muslim mosques.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Muslims are also a minority in Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They suffered in the hands of the LTTE too. They have human rights too just as all other ethnic groups. As a mother who authored ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-It Takes A VillageƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ you will be moved by the stories of civilians who suffered brutality from the LTTE that destroyed families and villages.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Some of the conscripted children have been rehabilitated and returned to their families through government intervention. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The disabled who fought for the LTTE were a liability and the LTTE ignored cries of their families to return the maimed and injured back to them but they were blown up.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The accounts are now coming out from those that witnessed how the disabled were destroyed.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ArenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t these acts of violence against civilians?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Those who were forcibly conscripted and later deliberately exploded were Sri Lankan civilians first before they became LTTE soldiers.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Yet the Government has met its responsibility to the living combatants while LTTE violated the human rights of Sri Lankans with no accountability.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The pro LTTE Diaspora has become loyal friends of the State Department.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You are pushing an agenda against the majority of peace loving citizens of a multi ethnic Sri Lanka to satisfy a group that has left Sri Lanka and are engaged in dubious activities on US soil.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This is a risk to Americans too.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It is a paradox that you do not respect the FBI findings and the writings of many including Doug Hagman who represents Homeland Security.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They have pointed out named individuals who are terror trained suspects living on US soil, who have been camouflaged by the use of extorted funds used liberally to buy support.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It is no secret that they raised funds using your name ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Tamils for ClintonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ in 2008.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It was not with the purpose of electing you for your capabilities but it was for the purpose of pushing a dangerous agenda.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Groups like Amnesty International have lost their purpose having been corrupted with a bribe of US$50,000 from the LTTE recently to push the pro LTTE agenda. Channel 4 has borrowed footage none being their original, relentlessly pursuing a paid purpose of bias and fear with inaccuracies. Some Congressional representatives who believe in votes at any cost receive blood money.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Homeland Security has named pro LTTE individuals who have security clearance to work in airports that are high security zones.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They are potential home grown terrorists who can act in sync with Al Qaida on US soil.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You are lending a hearing to these individuals like Rudrakumar who run a transnational government living in the US supporting a terror ideology having shifted from a war with weapons to a war with misinformation and subterfuge. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

You are partial to terror supporters while the US is fighting terror with over 4000 US and NATO men and women being lost in wars.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  You are playing with fire as you do not comprehend fully the mentality and brutality of the pro LTTE group that wants to bring chaos back to Sri Lanka while the US will not be immune.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Do not be fooled ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” all terror groups are in concert and taking action after the damage is done will be too late.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The fear of terrorism in America is magnified by offering your support to these groups that will build your confidence on the one hand and act on behalf of terror on the other.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The US has fought in the name of democracy in places where the US thought they needed it.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  In Sri Lanka, the democracy, freedom and peace that are sacred to us will eventually be taken away by the provocative speeches made by your undersecretary Robert Blake when he said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-countries ….. frequently experience a regeneration of the insurgency…. We could see very much that similar situation in Sri Lanka.” He is probably expressing that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s democracy and peace is short lived because he knows the players of the under current best.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He attended the Sri Lanka Independence Day Celebrations on February 4th as the chief guest of the Ambassador for Sri Lanka Jaliya Wickramsuriya in Washington DC and spoke a whole different story about the vast development in the country.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is very evident to voters like me that your priority is lending your supportƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to a group of those who live in the shadow of terrorism, human smuggling, pirating, credit card and bank fraud, insurance fraud, falsifying voter records, in the UK, Canada, USA and other parts of the world.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  All this happens in western countries where a strong welfare system at tax payerƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s expense is exploited. There is no human smuggling to non-western nations.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The recent exposure of voter fraud in Canada is an example of things to come.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Canada has got there and we have yet to get there but not long to go.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  To your administration, the wishes of peace loving, donor voters who have lived in the US and embraced the life of freedom and liberty do not matter.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The US that is not proud of its history of slavery would not wish for any reversal of what we in the US have today with the first black President.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  If there is a wish to reverse this today in the US, it would only be a minority that will soon be crushed as we have seen with the racist militia.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Similarly, drawing comparisons with civil rights, Sri Lankans have a right to peace.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The multi ethnic population of the majority Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and other minorities are supporting the Government of President Mahinda Rajapakse who has brought peace and a breath of freedom that the people of Sri Lanka had long forgotten for 30 years.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka is a democratic nation that votes just as in the US.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They do not need interference from any external forces to dictate terms and look back.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  No war is fair. Sri Lanka is not even given time to remedy the causes that led to the conflict.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  In a Buddhist country that was my country of birth, I am a practicing Buddhist who believes in Ahimsa which does not harm others.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We live a culture of compassion.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We have seen the devastation in Iraq, Afghanistan and the invisible involvement of the US in other countries that have been lead to devastation and destruction of unaccounted numbers of civilians soon forgotten.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We are aware of the problems with Iran today.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It was the US that removed a democratically elected leader of Iran Mohamed Mossadegh who looked after his people and wanted them to benefit from their oil.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The US supported a regime change, replaced him and that country went extreme much to the chagrin of the USA today.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  No government is perfect and so is the current regime of Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  However, it is the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-PeopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ChoiceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ to give highest priority to freedom and peace. No resolution should speak louder than the will of the people in the sovereign country of Sri Lanka. Please see the links below that tell their story.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These are my thoughts shared with many other Sri Lankan American Democrats that have been lost due to the push against our homeland.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Our strength is in our vote that we gave this administration but what happens to Sri Lanka will determine the outcome for voters in the future.

Well done Anjalika. Did you send this toHilary? If not let usknow I will fax it,
    Thanks

Thank you Anjalika.. I also supported Hilary, but realised that with any other politician who is vulnerable at the election time, Hilary also was taken a ride by the LTTE lobby of USA.

She succumbed to their bribes, and now she is trying to pay back by harassing Sri Lanka.

Her lowest grade act of visiting Jayalalitha – a third class politician of India that no one visits, was her first major act to please her LTTE lobby.. It followed whole lot of other acts i.e. pushing Ban Ki Moon to establish his panel to this resolution..

    Hilary has been severely misled.

  3. Rohan8 Says:

Well done Anjalika. Also the country you now live in America was built on land that originally belonged to the native americans. They were murdered in their millions so America could be formed after 1776 from 13 states as they invaded westwards taking native american land by force. Then they used the hard labour of Black africans to who brought to America against their will as black slaves to build the infrastructure roads, railroads and the big cities to turn the country into a superpower. Yet the Native Americans and African people despite their enormous sacrifices in building up America were and are treated poorly by the arrogant americans. Who no doubt commited enormous human rights abuses against the native americans and african people. How about you Anjalika over in America and Sri Lanka puts a resolution against America for its human rights abuses since 1776 starting with the native americans and africans and continuing to torment the rest of the world since its creation in 1776. However Anjalika beware these arrogant Americans don’t like their country being criticised. They like to pick on small countries like Sri Lanka on fabricated trumped up charges, so they can cover up all their massive human rights abuses for the last 236 years of America’s existence.

    Dear Angelika Silva,
Finally I get a chance of hearing from a Sri Lankan American who has lived & supported democratic party specifically Madam Hillary Clinton.

It is about time that Sri lankan Americans living in America, speak out and gather all like minded Americans of every ehtincity to help Sri lanka in the hour of need. There are many who are still jealous, some are still bewildered how a small nation with surmountable economic & other problems managed to defeat terrorists.

I am so glad to hear from you and other Americans including Sri lankan Americans how best they can assist Sri lanka, to counter financial might of LTTE & its supportes. We have been a democracy with FREE elections, & have responded admirably at the league of nations ( prior to UN) supporting Japan, when everyone else discarded them.

In East Pakistan & (now B’desh) we helped them to refuel planes as India barred them from using their air ports to re-fuel. Twice we suported Pakistan, Fiji when most of Commonwealth countries kicked them out.

More recently our Ambassodor to Japan took special interest, when Tsunami hit Japan & a Nuclear plant was disabled. We always come to the aid of the oppressed peoples, nations, when they need help & when most countries look the other way.

Dear Angelika, as a card carrying American/Sri lankan democrat I feel that many people of our ethinicity should band together to counter false propaganda carried out against our country by LTTE & their supporting organizations.

Very pleased to hear from you & I hope other Sri Lankans who love their Motherland, should band together and support Sri lanka in this critical time.

Thanks again madam Angelka & hope you wll be contributing articles to Lankaweb & othe USA newpapers as well. GOD BLESS & May the Noble Triple Gems guard you & protect you in years to come.

Thank you Anjalika. You are a true partiot. You ar proud to be a Buddhist and you have reaaly spoken the turth here. The truth wins in the end, not the might.

  7. Ananda-USA Says:

    Bravo, Anjalika!

A wonderful letter directed to Hilary Clinton, the pupeteer orchestrating the US agenda against Sri Lanka.

I too will follow in your footsteps and write a letter to both Hilary Clinton and to President Obama, expressing my opposition to their current Sri Lanka Policy, and explaining how that Policy is inimical not only to Sri Lanka, but also to the United States.

It is INCOMPREHENSIBLE to me, how the United States can be SO MYOPIC in undermining Sri Lanka in this way, given that Sri Lanka is the Oldest Democracy in Asia, with Universal Franchise enjoyed by both men and women from before Sri Lanka regained her independence in 1948. Here is a functioning democracy, that has fought and won a war against a powerful murderous terrorist movement all by itself, an old friend and ally of the United States since its birth, that is striving to rehabilitate, reconstruct and reintegrate into the nation the war affected areas with our uniquely Buddhist compassion and tolerance, with declared commitment to enforce Equal Rights and Equal Responsibilities for all of our citizens as no other nation affected by terrorism and war has done in living memory, being crucified at the UN for war crimes, by our great democratic friend and ally! INCOMPREHENSIBLE!

While I fully understand the geopolitical Neo-Colonialist agenda that is driving these Machiavellian strategies of the current US administration, I oppose them completely for they are IMMORAL, UNETHICAL and SINFUL.

They are not what a great freedom-loving nation living in the shadow of God, claiming to strive for fairness and justice in the world, should perpetrating against a small nation that has defended itself, after suffering murder and mayhem for 30 long years, to protect and defend ALL of its citizens so that they would enjoy the benefits of the values of fairness and justice we claim to treasure in equal measure.

  8. Ananda-USA Says:

Let us, Sri Lankan Americans, create an ONLINE PETITION to Barak Obama and Hilary Clinton, and submit it BEFORE the UNHRC vote.

A PETITION from many individuals will have greater impact than unrelated letters from those same people. Moreover, it will remove the burden of writing separate letters.

However few we might be, in the time that is still left, SOMETHING is BETTER THAN NOTHING!

  9. Ananda-USA Says:

D-Day in Geneva, both sides battle hard

    Excerpt ………………
Mr. Samarasinghe said Pakistan, Cuba and Sri Lanka were working out a statement which would be circulated among the envoys of member countries of the United Nations Human Rights Council for their signature.

The Sunday Times learns both the US and the European Union have also stepped up diplomatic efforts to ensure that the resolution against Sri Lanka is passed.

Diplomats of the US and the EU are visiting the capitals of the UNHRC member-states, many of which have pledged support to Sri Lanka, to urge them to vote for the resolution., which calls on the Sri Lankan government to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission and investigate war crimes alleged to have taken place during the last stages of the war.

The Non-Aligned Countries, the Organisation of the Islamic Countries and several African countries have pledged their support to Sri Lanka, but diplomatic sources said some African countries were now wavering.

The Sunday Times also learns that the United States has communicated to the Sri Lankan government that it was going ahead with the resolution. The US has also told the Indian government that it had no intention to withdraw the resolution, the Sunday Times learns.
