ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The colonial administration destroyed the indigenous agricultural methods of the Sinhalese and disposed them of their lands by introducing the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Waste Lands OrdinanceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and subsequent influx of South Indian Tamils to the country.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A lot is said about the Sinhala only act but it was a languages act and the Tamil politician at that time never fought for a Tamil language but for English to be the main language. Tamils did learn and practice in their language in the schools, universities and in public life BUT THE POLICTICS PLAYED INTERNATIONALLY BY THE TAMILS WAS FRADULENT.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the cause was mainly due to the lack of opportunities for the younger generation- hence the JVP insurrections in the south (more than 30,000 Sinhala youth ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ killed to stop the uprising- ) ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and the LTTE taking the upper hand after killing their own political fathers who nurturedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ them ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and became by forceƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the sole reps of the Tamil people.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ How can we Sinhalese be sure that the cry for a Tamil Homeland is the first step towards separatism and to dominate this small country of ours with the help of Tamil Nadu.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ TIME AND TIME AGAIN THIS HAS BEEN PROVED BY THEIR ACTIONS- IT IS UPTO THE TAMILS OF SRI LANKA TO DECIDE WHERE THEY BELONG.

I don’t think Tamils of Sri Lanka can make that decision independently. All the aspects of their life political, cultural, traditional, social, religious and to a lesser extent economical is determined by Tamil Nadu.
If Tamils in Sri Lanka think like Sri Lankans first and Tamils next, then they can be good Sri Lankan citizens.
If Tamils think as Tamils first then they have chosen Tamil Nadu.
As the writer correctly says language was never the issue. It was domination over low caste Tamils, Muslims and finally the Sinhalese.
That was why the 1957 B-C Pact had no solution the “language issue” but extensively dealt with the devolution (regional domination) aspect only. Its always power, power and more power Tamil politicians are after.
