Silence of UN, NATO’s killing of civilians & future of nations

Libya extends over 1759540 square kilometres (679362 sq mi) and is home to 6.4million people. On 17 March 2011, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1973 on Libya proposed by France, Lebanon & UK. Regime change in Iraq took 8 years and trillion dollars, the Liberating Libya took just 7 months but NATO is accused of thousands of civilian deaths which they refuse to admit or compensate. Are we looking at a future of military interventions by powerful nations (international gangsters) that falsely create the ground situations in these targeted countries and then officially obtain the mandate to militarily intervene?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What makes the death of Gaddafi and the fall of a sovereign nation alarming is that none of these uprisings were natural events but have been ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-plantedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ to facilitate and promote the need for a military intervention. Thus, the UN clauses are worded in such a way to permit its varied interpretations and by the time the world realizes the truth the damage has already been done and the leaders all silenced forever.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Gaddafi may have been a dictator but he was a dictator far different from others having brought Libya to a status where it functioned without a single loan from the IMF or World Bank and its central bank was 100% owned by the Libyan Government. In short Libya was a debt free nation under Gaddafi. In 1951 Libya was the poorest country in the world. Before US/NATO invaded Libya it had the highest standard of living in Africa and a literacy rate of 83%. It was also called the Switzerland of the African continent. One of the first things the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-rebelsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ have done is to change Libyan central bank to a western type one. We can now assume who the real instigators of these military interventions are. Ironically, global leaders are merely tools themselves!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ How did these ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-rebelsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ suddenly emerge? Were they really Libyans or hired mercenaries and would they have achieved the success they did if not for NATO air strikes? This question is important because the US and West openly declared they were arming the rebels. International laws do not permit a military intervention to remove a man from power. But who is there to stop such a state of affairs happening when even international media owned by the West was distorting every incident taking place in Libya.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Western media are far more dangerous than even politicians because it is their news that we ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-trustƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. Did any of these western channels relay how on 1st July 1.7m (95% of Tripoli population & 1/3 the entire population of Libya) people gathered in Tripoli to oppose NATO bombing of Libya? Libya and Gaddafi were pretty much taken by shock at the magnitude of the assault and the nature of the attack.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The media continuously relayed various reasons to attack Libya ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” from the potential of a massacre by Gaddafi to liberating the people from a dictator to the memories of Lockerbie. How many of us know that the US paid $4m to each witness to testify against the accused Libyan men. Most of the real truths come out only much later. On 18 March 2011 Gaddafi did announce a ceasefire but NATO began its military intervention the next day 19 March 2011.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Why did the West decide to topple Gaddafi having watched him be a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-dictatorƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ for 42 years? A popular view is GaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s plan to do oil transactions in gold instead of the dollar. Libya has over 140 tons of gold. GaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s proposal to nationalize LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s oil did not stick too well with the West either. GuatemalaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s decision to nationalize fruit processing resulted in a US coup. LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s invasion was sponsored by the West by arming Libyan ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-rebelsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ most believe to be Al Qaeda radicals transported to carry out the plan. So if it had been a plan it had to have been thought out by the same set of people that planned other invasions.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ War & Decision a book by Douglas Feith former under secretary of defense for policy tells that former US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld sent a paper to US President in 2001 on establishing ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-new regimesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. This is further confirmed in a book in 2003 by General Wesley Clark who commanded the NATO bombing of Kosovo that Donald Rumsfeld & Paul Wolfowitz had included Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia & Lebanon to be those ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-new regimesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. That list is now complete except for Syria & Iran. What should worry us is the likelihood of these 2 states also eventually falling.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The other theory is that both Gaddafi & Saddam fell because they challenged the dollar & Western banks. Gaddafi wanted to unite the African continent with 200m people using a single currency. LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Central Bank is 100% state owned making Libya create its own money. To do business with Libya investors had to go through Libyan Central Bank giving them no means to monopolize deals. Libya had $150 billion in foreign reserves which are now frozen. Gaddafi ‘had even contributed ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢¢”š¬…¡ƒ”š‚¬50m to Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential election fund.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ NATO air strikes have created such colossal damage to both people & infrastructure that even the International Criminal Court head voiced the possibility of investigating NATO for war crimes. This was in November 2011 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” 4 months on there is no mention of that happening. NATO used 26,000 sorties, 9600 strike missions on 5900 targets ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” what were these and how many of them fell upon civilians?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ LetƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s look at some key events:
- February 15, 2011 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” uprising in Libya against President Gaddafi
- February 22, 2011 – UN Human Rights Chief Navi Pillay claims 250 people had been ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-killedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ in LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦she claims there is ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-widespread and systematic attacks against the civilian populationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ which may amount to ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-crimes against humanityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. Thus the mood was created that Gaddafi forces were indiscriminately killing and giving a picture that a Rwanda type situation is likely to arise.
- March 18, 2011 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” UN Security Council authorizes action against Libya. Quotes from the Resolution ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” these wordings are often repeated:
- “grave concern at the deteriorating situation, the escalation of violence, and the heavy civilian casualties“
- “the gross and systematic violation of human rights, including arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, torture and summary executions”
- attacks against civilians “may amount to crimes against humanity”
- pose a “threat to international peace and security”.
- “a group of up to eight experts” to oversee the implementation of the resolution
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In Yugoslavia, NATO targeted civilian economy ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” airports, government buildings, manufacturing infrastructure, ancient buildings and the countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s historicl & cultural heritage. In Libya, NATOƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s targets were bridges, roads, hospitals, tv stations, factories, schools & even hospitals.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is estimated that the civilian deaths in Libya as a result of NATO air strikes amount to over 30,000. Will these ever be investigated is the biggest question.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A few of NATOƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s civilian targets (NATO aircraft flew a total of 17,939 armed sorties in Libya):
- March 25, 2011 – Al-Tajura Hospital was hit as was Saladin Hospital in Ain Zara.
- April 18, 2011 telecommunications tower in the city of Sirte
- 30 April 2011 NATO air strikes hit Libyan Down’s Syndrome Society
- June 12, 2011 LibyaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Nasser University bombed by NATO
- July 18, 2011 the radar tower at Tripoli International Airport was bombed by NATO
- July 22, 2011 NATO warplanes attacked the pipe making plant at Brega
- July 23, 2011 a facility that makes pipes for the Great Man-Made River was bombed (worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Manmade River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country
- July 25, 2011 a hospital in Zliten, near the city of Misrata, was also bombed by NATO warplanes
- July 26, 2011 NATO bombs a hospital in West Libya, killing civilians & damaging food supply depot and a medical depotƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The US & NATO mission became complete with the killing of Gaddafi on 20th October 2011 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” a death these nations should feel ashamed of.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This shame is heightened by the fact that a white flag truce was negotiated for Gaddafi with Hillary Clinton. It has also been reported that journalists were not immediately allowed to report from the site of the US Drone attack on QaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s convoy until the rebels had the opportunity to dispose of any remaining evidence of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-White FlagsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ which were clearly connected to the convoy vehicles.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Did Secretary Clinton use this information to prepare a US Drone attack on QaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-White FlagƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ convoy since she was in Libya on 19th March 2011 the day before Gaddafi was killed? If Secretary Clinton & the US administration were aware of a white flag truce then the US drone attack on GaddafiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s convoy was in direct violation of the Geneva Convention & constitutes a war crime as the US drone attack enabled rebels to sodomize Gaddafi before killing him.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ None of these truths will have any bearing on any of these powerful nations so long as people remain silent and watch crimes against humanity take place. The UN Human Rights Council did appoint an investigation that concluded that NATO ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-conducted a highly precise campaign with a demonstrable determination to avoid civilian casualties. On limited occasions, the Commission confirmed civilian casualties and found targets that showed no evidence of military utilityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thus, the Commission found NATO did not deliberately target civilians in Libya.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Did we not say that these military interventionists would remain unscathed to continue their next targets ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Syria & IranƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦and now it appears the next sojourn is Asia where Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Resolution has been the FIRST such resolution against a country where a conflict has concluded and a country that has been enjoying peace without bombs or terrorists for 3 years! Generally Resolutions are related to ONGOING CONFLICT SITUATIONS ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” thus US Sponsored Resolution against Sri Lanka is a precedent and that is what other countries need to be mindful of. India was aware of this and that is why India should not have been party to agreeing to the Resolution.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ So how far will these Western imperialists decide to go back to use for future Resolutions upon other Asian countries is the next questionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.India should also be worried but then India thinks it is a friend of the West and does not need Asian friends any more.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is time UN member nations unite to oppose this new world order that is taking shape.

Shenali,
You asked “How did these “rebels” suddenly emerge? Were they really Libyans or hired mercenaries?”.
The answer is that they were of three types: Disaffected Libyans hired by foreigners with promises of future wealth, Foreign mercenaries, and Foreign Special Forces/Troops from Italy, France, UK and the US. The entire leadership and military direction came from foreigners; only the low level fighters were Libyans bought for money.
For example, I saw an interview on Youtube with a very tanned man operating a four-barreled anti-aircraft weapon mounted on the back up of a pickup truck. This man had a brownish face that made him look like a Libyan, but from his Anglo-Saxon facial features and his British accent it was clear he was from the UK! Obviously, he had plastered his face with suntan lotion to look as Libyan as possible, but he should have kept his mouth shut because his accent gave him away. It was laughable!
As you say, they dismantled the most affluent and egalitarian country in the Arab World to grab its oil wealth … highway robbery in broad daylight, pure and simple, by the Neo-Colonialists.
NO ONE …. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ….. Not the UN, not the ICRC, not the various “human rights” NGOs, nor the “democracy” watch dogs, not even China and Russia…. NO ONE complained. It was beautifully orchestrated exercise in “democracy”.
Furthermore, NO ONE will be held responsible for that WAR CRIME of the RAPING of LIBYA … carried out BY Foreign Neo-Colonialists, OF Foreign Neo-Colonialists, FOR Foreign Neo-Colonialists.
But, here is the funny thing: Despite Libya’s small population, NONE OF THESE NEOCOLONIALISTS will be able to PROFIT from Libya’s wealth as they hope …. because now the “internet democrats” and “foreign mercenaries” have lost control, and chaos reigns with many militias fighting each other for territory and control … just like in Somalia. The country has degenerated into anarchy with a small elite pretending to represent the country at the UN and abroad. No one is really in charge.
Meanwhile, the best organized, motivated, and now the largest, of the militias, the Muslim Fundamentalists, both home grown and foreign, are gradually taking over.
Finally, it is they who will triumph, and the Foreign Neo- Colonialists will be left holding an empty bag sucking on a stone pebble …. without anything to show for their efforts, unable to set foot in Lybia in fear of their lives, just as it will be in Iraq and Afghanistan when the US-UK withdrawal is completed.
The net result, will be the destruction of a thriving country, of immense help to the black Africans of the impoverished South, and its handover to a bunch of extremists Moslem Fundamentalists bitterly opposed to the West.
That is why I say that these Western Powers are now ruled by a collection of PREJUDICED BIRD BRAINS who don’t see the big picture in the long term beyond their noses, executing Policies that are not in the long term interest of either themselves, or the peoples of the countries they MINDLESSLY DESTROY.

Easy, because they are SHAMELESS HYPOCRITES. That is HOW!

In the recent past the USA and NATO have bee guilty of major war crimes in Libya, Iraq, Yugoslovia and Afganistan.
As for the Libyan issue, Gaddafi’s mistake was to have trusted the untrustworthy Western Leaders. He gave 50million Euros to Sarkosky; discontinued the nuclear weapons program, entertained all Western Leaders and believed the West was going to be honest with him. Events proved otherwise an Libya is now ruined and in the hands of an unelected western appointed puppet dictator.
It is now said that Hilary Clinton visited Libya to arrange a White Flag convoy to facilitate Gaddafi to leave the country, as the Libyans could not defend against the relentless seven months bombing campaign by the cowardly NATO nations, after having deceived the UN security council with a bogus resolution claiming to protect Libyan civilians. However, the white flag offer had been a ruse to bring Gaddafi out in to the open and then send in American Helicopters to bomb the convoy mercilessly.
As for Navipillai, it is no surprise she released the first bogus report against Libya to open the door for West to intervene.
Is it safer for the world to scrap the UN now that it is controlled by the former colonial powers and the USA, to do what they like?
