Never a day seems to pass without the big guns in Tamil Nadu politics shedding buckets of tears or demanding action by the Central Government of India, citing the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils. Yet, when they are given the opportunity to see for themselves what goes on in the North and the East and in the plantation regions of the island nation, they come out with laughable excuses to avoid seeing the truth.

The media on 15th April report Karunanidhi, the leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party saying that the proposed delegation to Sri Lanka would not serve any purpose and that he has pulled out of the delegation. Not to be outdone, MDMK chief Vaiko proclaims ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The scheduled visit will not help Tamils in Sri Lanka in any way. It is a mere waste.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ Just three days prior to that, the AIADMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa withdrew her party delegate saying that the visit would ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-serve no purposeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

The obvious reason for the refusal by the Tamil Nadu political leaders to join the delegation is that once they get correct information first hand, they will not be able to continue hoodwinking the gullible masses of Tamil Nadu, as they had been doing during the past many decades. They will see that the average Tamil in Sri Lanka is doing much better than his counterpart in Tamil Nadu. They will also observe that projects such as the rehabilitation of the KKS harbour and the reconstruction of the Northern railway tracks, financed by the Indian government, are progressing well. Additionally, there will be tangible evidence of the development projects that the Sri Lanka government has initiated with its own budgetary allocation as well as with the support offered by other countries and agencies that desire to see that Sri Lanka gets back the much cherished peace and is on the road to progress.

Let the Tamil Nadu political trio or their delegates stay out of Sri Lanka. Spewing venomous lies against the island nation to fool their voters has stood them in good stead for decades. No politician wants to let go of a winning hand.
