TNA wishes to discuss re-merger with the Muslims

A report in Daily Mirror on 20 May states, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has softened its stance on its long standing demand for the re-merger of the northern and eastern provincesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. But, it goes on to add, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Modalities for such a merged unit could be discussed subject to the interests of the Muslim communityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

There are two glaring absurdities of the whole story: firstly, that Sri Lanka should revert to a merger of the Northern Province and the Eastern Province ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” one of the so called solutions to the ethnic problem, which was thrown out as unconstitutional by the judiciary ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” and that Muslims in the East in collaboration with the TNA should decide on the future of the Eastern province.

What happened to the Sinhalese people who constitute a third of the population of the Eastern Province? Did they vanish into thin air after the TNA waved its magic wand? Do not the monuments and places of worship such as Somawathiya built by Prince Giri-aba in 2nd century BC and Dighawapi by Prince Saddhatissa, the younger son of King Kavantissa of Ruhuna in 3rd BC come into the scene at all in the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”solutionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ being hatched by the TNA? These constructions by the Sinhalese have existed for thousands of years, and it is just stupid if the TNA thinks that it can brush them off from the map with such nonchalance? Have the TNA bigwigs ever read the history of Sri Lanka, to know that the Muslims were settled in the East by King Senarath, the Kandyan king, when the Portuguese led by Captain de Saa expelled them from the Western coast in 1626?

The voters that the TNA may claim to represent do not total even 4% of the population of Sri Lanka. To project to the gullible West that it fights for the rights of a substantial proportion of the people living in Sri Lanka, the TNA and its supporters had coined a new-fangled phrase ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Tamil speaking people. This label that now continues to be used by the anti-Sri Lankan groups to attack the Sinhalese and tarnish the image of Sri Lanka is a misnomer and a non-entity for all practical purposes: the Moors in Sri Lanka practice a religion different from that of the Tamils and have cultural and societal values an habits far different from those who voted the TNA into power.

It is time that the TNA showed that it is genuinely concerned about Sri Lanka. TNA should abandon the divisive policies and contribute in whatever manner to the reconstruction and rebuilding of the country that has just come out of the curse of terrorism. In the alternative, TNA is free to go on with the demand for a merger of the North and East. Sri Lanka and its sane people, on their part, are not ready to entertain such frivolous and non-tenable demands after the country has been unified at great cost.

    What a joke is this!

TNA will NEVER EVER have a pinch of concern about SL.

If it does, it loses the next election! TNA voters HATE SL and LOVE TE and TN.

If TNA or Tamils feel Sri Lankan they ask the govt if not they fight the govt. Instead they tried to force the govt. Never expect TNA or Tamils begin to feel Sri Lankan and save Sinhala people from demise. Instead, we need to remember the old saying that only our hand is for our head and nothing else.

Everybody ask to be good Buddhists and not Sinhala-buddhists. Because, that is the only way they can own what is ours and make us lose everything there after.

So, if our politicians neglect our needs or dither, we are doomed.

Firstly, all Muslims who were ethnically cleansed from North and East be resettled. Their land should be given back. The LTTE/TNA and the Tamil diaspora which financed this ethnic cleansing should pay compensation. TNA leaders who were directly controlled by LTTE and those supported the LTTE terror network should be jailed. Then talk to the Muslims.

Sinhala & Muslim folk are first kicked out of N&E and now the TNA leaders want to talk the talk with Muslims of the East coast. When will the wayward TNA become steadfast and true to us and to themselves ? Great need for TRUST here.

We Tamil were kicked out from south 1956 to 1983 but they back again with in 3 month time (eg: my father )!
All come back now , We need Sinhala bakery back middle of Jaffna town !!!! comming Sinhala brother & sister come back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

    Dear Andy,

Thank you for invitation to bakers and others from the South to come back to Jaffna. We would like to hear the same from the TNA too.

You & your father came back in 3 months. About 30 YEARS have gone by and yet the Sinhala bakers and Muslim folk have
yet to come back to Jaffna. Also, pls note that :

1956 : Trouble started due to Separatist demand by Tamil leaders.

1983: Same reason, same problem. That time it was also Cold War time. Due to this, there was added Indian interference with J.N.Dixit in charge, and very well organised at Lanka end under then Labor Minister, Cyril Mathew, and other disruptive elements. Looking back, we can see it was all a set up. It was filmed as well and shown to the west by then Ambassadors (all Tamil) in Bonn (Germany), France & UK, by Luxmi Naganathan, Balakrishna and Moorthy. Next cam teh tamil Exodus to the west. The rest is history.

Let us not be Naive about events any more.

1956 : Trouble started /1983: Same reason, same problem- OK whatever reason trouble started but as a responsiblity Govt why did not stop (not imposed cewf immideadly , Even Hon Amirthalingam ( Oppotion leader) was beging to JRJ to declare 24 hours crew but he refused & done it one week later, Why ? We both know the reson !!!)
who start ethnically cleansed ! We Tamils NO !

anyway past is pass as you said Let us not be Naive about events any more !.
hope for the best decentralised power to NE provincial council to unit our diversity forever !

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

1983 : Who was in charge of Lanka affairs ? Was it not J.N. Dixit, the Envoy from India ? Who was pushing India in the Cold War ?
Tamil leaders’ Separatism and the Cold War were lethal for Lanka.
Btw, Mr Dixit passed away (heart attack) after the Tsunami of 2004.

Yes, indeed, let us not be Naive anymore. It is Lankans for Lankans that will work out right, always.

why you taking about outsiders (J.N. Dixit) , simple quetion Why our Presetent JRJ did not order curfew with in 24 hours to stop 1983 communal raites in South of SL!? Answer is He want to make sure All Tamil wiped out from South of SL simple is that!

It is Lankans for Lankans that will work out right, always ! if you reat other lankan as lankan not like kala thonis !!!

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

I am copying a part I wrote to you under Kelum’s article, re JRJ and 1983 riots.

“When killing started in Jaffna (with Alfred Duraiappa murder which is construed as an anti-govt. act) and the Army went in to quell the troubles, the anger was turned on the Army. In 1983, when 13 Army soldiers were sniped and killed in Jaffna, and their bodies were NOT sent to the villages as was the usual practice, and their bodies were brought to Colombo Kanatte cemetery, then the rioting started. We do not know to date who advised JRJ to hold the funeral at Kanatte. I have it from good authority that it was not the Army Commander of that time – he wanted the bodies sent back to their homes. Anyway, the delay at the cemetery made the crowd restive and angry and that was the start of the rioting. I told you before that I was in Colombo and saw the events for myself. We helped Tamils and saved a Tamil home. It was a shameful time. But, I am of the opinion that JRJ’s hands were tied in the matter and he was not allowed/could not stop the rioting at once. Riots stopped after 3 days. Also, the event was really a set up”.

Tamils who are true born and loyal to Lanka will not be treated like “kallathonis”. True born Tamil people are welcome in Lanka. All illegal migrants after year 2000 ought to be deported. Sri Lanka has every right to do so. It is so in the west and the west does not tolerate illegal migrants.

  12. Naram Says:

TNA owe thewho were Muslims ethnically cleansed tofrom the North to live in Puttlam for the last 20 or more years a genuine apology on behalf of their LTTE amsters.

TNA peraps could seek support from GTF to have a welcome ceremony and reparation for that that most crime of ethnic cleansing. That will ease the was for other Sri Lankans to accept even a TNA parliamentarian as brothers.
