Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s main opposition the United National Party has appointed a committee chaired by Wijedasa Rajapaksa to draft a private memberƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s bill to win back the civic rightsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  of the former Commander of army Sarath Fonseka , said the partyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s General Secretary, Tissa Attanayaka.

The private memberƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s bill will seek to win back the CommanderƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s military title, General and demand the government to return all his medals he had won through a hard military career ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Attanayaka said.

The party secretary said the UNP is glad he is out of jail and his party had always felt that arrest of General Fonseka and the incaseration was against naturalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  justice and the civil and politicalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  convention signed on June 11 1980 by Sri Lanka.

He was of the opinion that robbing a man of his pension hard earned until his retirement for the reason he contested the President is barbaric and the private members bill would seek to rectify it. All his civic and political rights ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ should be reverted back to him.

He said 210 soldiers have been expelled from the army for associating with their commander with another 20 soldiers who were providing security for him. All those should be taken back to the army.

The other members of the committeeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  are Laxman Kiriella and Ajith Perera.

  1. AnuD Says:

Those days, news reports said that there were over 15000 deserters. If some of those came and helped, does the candidate, because he was a former army Commander, have to check out every one to see whether they were deserters or not.

When SF himself was retired why he had to worry about getting help from Deserters ?

  2. Lorenzo Says:

    AnuD,

There is a BIG difference between DESERTERS and RETIREES.

Is SF a deserter? No. He is a retiree.

There is an even BIGGER difference between ARMED DESERTERS and other deserters.

SF used his PRIVATE MILITIA of deserters like in an African country. If you think that is right, think again.

There are more capable people who can do the same against SF!

  3. Lorenzo Says:

    AnuD,

You are a patriot but what you wrote in relation to SF recently are NOT objective but biased. Lets stick to facts.

I’m not saying SF is bad or good. What I’m saying is SF should do what suits him. Presidency is NOT for him. Opposition Leader – yes.

  4. Lorenzo Says:

I’m waiting! Bring the private members’ bill. UNP knows it will be defeated.

If not, UNP leader goes home back to Batalanda where he belong!

SF comes to his Opposition Leader’s official residence.

Remember Run-NIL told the president after SF lost “Oyaayi mammai thennama thinum!”.

    Poor inexperienced SF!

Politics is a HARDER game than war. That is why politicians CONTROL the army in every country and not the other way round!!
