The recentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ furore in India thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  “A controversial remark” reportedly made by Sri Lanka’s Minister for Power and Energy, Champika Ranawaka has touched a raw nerve in Tamil Nadu “ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as reported both in the local and Indian media indicates the related transparenciesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ which have led to the unpalatable rhetoric of loser politicians such as Mr Karunanidhi of the DMK and twoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ faced, bi-partisan Tamil tiger frontingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ outfits such as the TNA to be seen in true light.

It has been reported that DMK chief Karunanidhi, (ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who incidentally suffered debilitating political losses in the last election heƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ contested with no real foot to stand on politically or perhaps even otherwiseƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ )ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has complained to the IndianƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that the Sri LankanƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ MinisterƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  has “threatened” that “one Mullaivaikal was enough and that no one should try to get hundred more” which seems more a matter of interpretation by Karunanidhi or anyone who draws similar conclusions although there also seems to be an important message to those who may still have ambitions about the Eelamist dream of dividing Sri Lanka which truly is a pipe dream on their part and no more.

What the Minister has implied quite obviously despite it being somewhat oblivious to blinkered types like Karunanidhi is that Sri Lanka will never permit a repetition of the attrocities of the Tamil Tigers and theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ head on confrontation which culminatedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in the death of the LTTE at Mullaivaikal as an operational forceƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  and its leader also slain in a nearby lagoon, which will never be repeated nor is there any justification forƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a repeat of it now that peace has returned once again to Sri Lanka hopefully in a lasting perspective.

Given the fact Mullaivaikal is the predominantƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ area in Sri Lanka chosen by many antagonists such as Channel 4 of the UK and someƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ world leaders also in harmony with the same theme, the Karunanidhi chant is part of the same chorus of thoseƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who continue to attempt to build up a case of human rights violations against the Government of Sri Lanka. The so called statisticians of pro human rights groups whoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ estimate thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 40,000 Tamil civilians were massacred in the final months of the island’s civil war in 2009 probably need to get their facts and numbersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ right although an accurate tally of how manyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in totalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ lost their lives isƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ said to be around the 60 to 70,000 mark according independent sources, itƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ will never be confirmed fully and the term “massacre” one of convenience for the accusersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and rightfully applicable to the LTTE whose modus operandi as well as hallmark was simply massacre, plunderƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ with horrendous disregard for human life.

Karunanidhi, his cronies and human rights activists could yell until blue in the face but the realities of massacres and wanton detruction of life and property is a lable befitting the LTTE alone where the Sri Lankan Armed Forces conducted operations in a manner in keeping with the Geneva Convention despite it being an internal armed insurrection by terrorists and there seems no evidence that they were ever responsible for any massacres and no tangible proof to everƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ attest to it. The evidence strongly points to a liberating role the Armed Forced playedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  which saved many lives not particular to any ethnicity but all civilians who were faced with death and mayhem at the hands of the terrorists in the areas where the Armed Forces conducted operations where Mullaivaikal is no exception. The greater part of those liberated by the Armed Forces were Tamils it has been established beyond a doubt.

The Lankan cabinet Minister’s speech, which seems to have been put into perspective correctlyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ by the media reports covering it wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ reportedly a ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ response to another speech by that ever abrasive dispenser of Tamil secessionist, Tamil tiger linked propaganda and aspirations albeit veiled~ the ubiquitous Mr.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ R. Sampanthan, leader of the Sri Lankan Tamil National Alliance (TNA), in which he hasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ said somewhat boldly and brazenly that: ” We must have unrestricted authority to govern our own land, protect our own people, and develop our own economy, culture and tradition. A meaningful devolution should go beyond the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. If the Sri Lankan state continuously denies this right, we will claim our right under international law to external self-determination.”ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sure! Sure! Mr Sampanthan! There should be countless numbers of newly established states around the world on this basis but the fact of the matter is there are none! So keep on dreaming!

ThisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ once again beyond any doubt simplyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ points to how ambitious despite being misguided, ignorantƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and unaware of the realities governing International Law the man is.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No supporter of a terror group would have a bat’s chance in hell of acheiving the secession he ( and the rest of his alliance of course) dreams about! particularly in Sovereign Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  and its more than two thirds majority of Sinhalese which constitute the Sinhala Nation. It seems laughable, the manner he chooses to use expressions like “authority to govern ‘our’ land where he should really take his grievances and his band of agitators to the place where he would fit in perfectly~ Tami NaduƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  towards developing the economy, culture, traditions and governance of “his people” and the unrestricted authority he refers to (ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ provided Tamil Nadu will grant it which in all probabilities it might not!)

It is more than likely in such a scenario that Tamil Nadu might ask Sampanthan to get off his high horse and blend into the Tamil Nadu scenery and become a part of it along with his followingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ whilst giving up his ambitions about a sequesterd Sri Lanka or liberating a miniscule minority of rebellious Tamils where a greater part thereof has decided quite wisely to throw in their lot with the rest of Sri Lanka under her leadership and administration, content with how they are being treated!

Once again it needs emphasis in reiteratingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that the other agitator in related issues, Mr Karunanidhi of the DMK also needs to be politely asked to change his rhetoric, get real and worry about his political future which seems to be in limbo at the present time! That he has asked the Indian Prime Minister to take upƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Minister Ranawake’s comments with the Lankan Government in all probabilities is not something he isƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ either entitled toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  or have capacity to address as he does not seem to understand its Raison d’ etre !ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He claims the minister’s remarks “are provocative and therefore condemnable.”

But knowing him, his track record,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ his associates and their direction it is nothing new where the provocative boots seems to be on their feet insamuch asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  those of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ PMK Chief Dr A Ramadoss who has also chirped that, “The Lankan Minister’s message is clear. No Tamils in Sri Lanka should ever protest for their rights”. He said it is a “challenge to India and the UN Human Rights Council which is investigating ‘genocide’ charges against the country.”( a term befitting the concoctive capacity of the utterers of course!)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ although far removed from realityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the messageƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the Sri Lanka Minister was trying to convey.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And “when the hell ?” may it be asked did India have any right toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  get involved in human rights violations in Sri Lanka quite apart from the UNHCR whose ruling realistically wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  a recommendationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ rather than anƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ authoritative directive!

The tailpiece to Mr Karunanidhi’sƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ rhetoric about matters relating to Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  can be summed up by another media report which goes on to say that ” Following his party’s huge defeat in the state elections last year, Mr Karunanidhi re-launched the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) to campaign for a separate state for Tamils in Sri Lanka. He’s hosting the TESO conference in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district on August 5. His letter to the Prime Minister is seen as an attempt to build momentum for his movement.”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And given the contempt the world now has for the concept of Tamil Eelam within Sri Lanka,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ once the objective of the Tamil Tigers and their terrorist operations,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ it appears thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Karunanidhi and his buddies are involved in a lost cause! which leads to the logical conclusion that secessionist dreams by political losers in Chennai and their counterparts in Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ are intolerable!

ONE MULLAIVAIKAL IS ENOUGH AND NO ONE SHOULD TRY TO GET HUNDRED MORE.

    What an EXCELLENT statement!

My hats off to you Champika. We need MANY MORE politicians like you.

If it hurt the dirt Karunainidhi, that is double the fun! :))
