Bizarrely, Carlo Foneska connects Victor Ratnayake and his music with DarwinƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s theory through his piece: – ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Kissing Goodbye to Sa! Wishing Long Life to Victor!ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢
We are targeted by last SundayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s issue (The Island, 15th July 2012) thus, with another of his empty pompous hyperboles.
We know what Carlo really is: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”A Catholic in disguisesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Over the years this chameleon has secreted his true colours and posed as a rationalist and currently connected up with ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”DarwiniansƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Now he has hitched his wagon with the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Bull frog of DarwiniansƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢; Dawkins, and has become a thorough blooded mechanist.
But according to DarwinƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s concept the creatures are not aiming at some sort of excellence. In fact they have to adopt and become fit in order to survive the struggle. Why survive at all, in order to send its types further in time and space. What has Ratnayakes singing, which may be excellent, got do with survival? Indeed what has it to do with sending his types further in time and space!
And who is this ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-DawkinsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ character? He is none other than the current Pundit, exponent and promoter of the neo-Darwinist mechanistic creed of life. By association, Carlo is trying to pose of as an intellectual and a rationalist, but is weighed down by the heaviness of crossing over from his fatalistic religious beliefs to that of a mechanistic Varity. So has Carlo really penetrated the larger truths of Darwinism? Hardly, I should think!

For I found both, Carlo and Dawkins, beating around the bush, and found their theories lacking any substance, but in fact, spiced with empty hollow rhetoric.
And you guessed it; the Island never cared to publish my reply!

What we have in ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”The IslandƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, a Buddhist owned paper, is; a habit of brain washing of the public, through its ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”sound of one hand clappingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In such a manner, editors of the English media have been manipulating the Buddhist public for many a long year!
In fact when then the first edition of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”THE ORIGIN OF SPECIESƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ appeared in 1859, it was not touted as such, butƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as; On the Origin of Species by Means of NatuƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ral Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life.
Darwin in fact, was not expounding on the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”origin of lifeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, but how differences in living forms, which naturalists specified as species, came into being.
I would not take up the many unanswered questions by this scientific ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”natural selectionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ mantra here; instead I will bring to the reader notice, some of its horrendous historical repercussions this ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”mechanisticƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ creed had on the unfavoured nations.
In fact Social Darwinism’s chequered history can be traced back to the chief Guru himself. Charles Darwin’s work, “On The Origin of the Species by means of natural selection, (subtitled and note) The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life” laid the foundation for the questionable theories that were to follow in its wake; such as Arthur J. de Gobineau’s manifesto, “The Inequality of the Races,” or the Communist Manifesto of Karl Marx. These were all pure Darwinian spin offs. Naturally, “Survival of the fittest” paved the ideological path for “race struggles” and “class struggles” in societies.
Unwittingly Darwin had applied his biological selection process to the historical social process. What emerged soon was “Eugenics.” Eugenics can be defined as applied Darwinism. The founder of it was Francis Galton, a cousin of Darwin, and the author of several highly influential works on heredity, especially “National Inheritance” (1889). Shortly after Galton published this work, a group of so-called “racial scientists” became active in Germany.
In time this catalyzed and validated Hitler’s scientific “biomedical vision”.
Indeed knowledgeable historians easily deciphered the concoction: Darwinian biology led to the evolutionary theory; Social Darwinism to God’s patronage and blessings for the fittest; and indeed a pseudo-science called “Eugenics. All built on a solid “scientific” edifice for “racial prejudice”, “racial discrimination” and “racism” was a natural outcome. Such vague, unscientific and polydimensional conceptions justified elitism, hate, racism, tribalism, war, holocaust, colonization, and a mystical economic destiny for the favoured nations.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What differentiated Nazi “race purification” program from other such genocidal campaigns was that, it was built on solid “scientific” (DarwinistsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢) findings?
Going by the two ruling theories of life, our existence is either aƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ fatalistically determined (of the Judeo-Christian verity)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ or,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ mechanistically determined (of the Scientific Darwinian Varity).
Sadly such theories of life, has brought the present civilisation to its knees!

Now the Vatican accepts evolution. In other words, they accepts Darwin’s theory. In the USA, teaching of Intelligent design and some other thing in the school is banned.
There are other things but western newspapers don’t give publicity. One reason is they losing readership. For example, there are people who openly argue that GENESIS is fiction.

Darwinian “biology” led to the evolutionary theory is not a theory. It still is a hypothesis.
How can one call it a theroy ? Even a theory which is something that can be proven , would be subjected to be proven wrong in the future. For example, theory of relativity is proven through mathematics/ phisics yet it brakes down when it came to the world of the infinitesimally small.
A theory has been extensively tested and is generally accepted, while a hypothesis is a speculative guess that has yet to be tested. Except those who accept any theory comes through western sceince, a lot of learned people do not consider Darwins’s rubbish as a theory. How is Darwin’s speculative stupid hypothesis became a theory is a strange. It is thorugh the school system, teaching this nonsence in science classed led to this acceptance. What is the percentage of students who learn this at a young age reseaches and examine the eveidence which support it ? Since it is taught such young age , it became accepted my masses without suspecting it. Some fools like Ben Silva and Chandrasoma think it is a proven formulae !

As a matter of urgency all fools who believe the Creative God and Darwinism should read and understand the Agganna Sutra which very explicitly explains how the world came in to being and what formed the life in a never ending cycle of re occurrence. Buddha’s explanation and version is ultimate and the one and only uncontestable. All pundits are dwarfs in front of Buddha’s teachings.

Dear Mahinda,
This is a very good article Mahinda. You have put your hand and mind into a subject that has so much to do with social and historical issues of our society. Instead of hiding it, opening this can of worms is a must to do in these times of conflict and confuse.
This subject of the irrational myth of modern ideology desperately demands in-depth discussion in societies like ours; to say—colonized, but never been decolonized, and still loved to remain be colonized or either to be directly or ideologically recolonized, societies like ours— to expose the pseudo scientific base of racism and subjugation in current world order.
The entire modern ideology has been based on few utterances of few white folks made to be as grandiose as monumental scientific knowledge. The modern ideology has been supported by these very few ideological pillars such as, Newtonian science, the Darwinian so-called theory of evolution, psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud and the Hegelian social theory/history.
When you scrutinize all these theories with the historical events of the emergence of such theories, we can see a certain political motivation behind these entire theoretical background of modern ideology; that is to keep the entire global humanity under the rule of Europe. Hegel clearly has stated this. There is no any qualm about it. He has said it quite clearly in his words when he said….“The ideal superior signification is that of spirit, which returns into itself from out of the dullness of consciousness. The consciousness of its own self-justification arises and mediates the reestablishment of Christian liberty. The Christian principle has passed through the formidable discipline of culture; and the Reformation also gives it its exterior boundary, along with the discovery of America……the principle of the free spirit has made itself here the flag of the world, and from it universal principles of reason have developed….custom and tradition are no longer of value; distinct rights need to be founded on rational principles. Thus the liberty of the spirit is being realized.” (Under this philosophical clout, we can see where all Hegelians come from)
Furthermore, Hegel says that no one could imagine having any rights before this Hegelian (constructed) ‘Europe.’ Then he justifies it saying….
“Because history is the configuration of the spirit in the form of event (note he never mentions about colonialism as a turning point of events)……the people which receives the spirit as its natural principle…..is the one that dominate in the epoch of world history…..Against the absolute right of that people who actually are the carriers of the world spirit, the spirit of other peoples has no other rights”
The thesis that modern ideologues want us to believe is the idea that exactly what Hegel has uttered. But when you make a tiny little alteration into this thesis and making modernity as a result of colonialism, this changes the entire picture of modernity completely upside down. Argentinian philosopher Enrique Dussel brings this new thesis into his argument wonderfully. Hope to read more interesting things from you Mahinda.
