A true story of how UNP regime and its corrupted rule of 1977 on wards destroyed a family, and subsequently the social fabric of the entire Sri Lanka.

The writer is the only child of a govt. employee who was attached to a dept. which head office is in Peradeniya and mother was housewife alone. My father was working as a clerk, who was educated in the well regarded college in Kandy and very fluent in English because his education was in English medium, but due to poverty of his parents being unable to send him toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the university, he opted to start the life as a clerk in late 40ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ties under the British administration and according to my knowledge at later stage he was well regarded by many in the working circle who was well aware of state procedures and his English proficiency in official works. Needless to tell that he never resorted to any corruption and never fed us with dirty money, instead he starved to afford me and mother a quarter of a Butter and loaf of bread.

Later I remember he was sitting for intermediary examinations for promotions and passed well due to his wide knowledge , but was never given his due promotions or what he deserve as per his service length either, due to he was not affiliated to the UNP union and does not engage in any corrupt practices of many others as he sometimes used to utter at home with unbearable great dismay.

Since my father was the only bread winner and his meager salary was insufficient to fulfill all our wishes that is my Mother and me.

In late 70ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ties I remember when he passed some intermediary examinations for Foreign Service and he was over confident that he would be taken in that time due to several factors, but to his bad luck the 1997 govt. that came to power in the with a Dharmishta face was doing everything other way , my father became another victim who did not voice or made an issue, kept to his silence of one of his gentleman quality, but when I realized that he had suffered huge mental agony for him not being selected for the position due for him by the qualifications, was too late, the very defeat cause his suicide in 1983. It not only deprived me,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  my father, my mother who felt fatherƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s agony was also had become a silent mental sufferer ended up as a mental patient.

Unfortunately, at this specific period I was mostly out of home and working in Colombo after I was newly employed as a technician in a medical faculty.

The UNP regime who that did not honor qualified and all suitable my father for the post in a foreign mission, did sent some unqualified and with shorter in service because they are their party supporters as well as thugs.

The dissatisfaction and mental agony rated by this incident ended u my father being suffering immensely and silently, often came up with economical hardships at home front and further disturbed by the fate my mother felt due to his agony, my father committed suicide in 1983 July.

Our family was destroyed, my Father was gone at my best age of the life making me helpless for the future, and motherƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s affection was gone forever as she is now a mental patient could not be cured due to extensive damage it had done to her brain.

As such my loss in life is never redeemable nor can be corrected totally attributed to the UNP regime 1977 onwards. At the time I was too young to understand the horror and depth in full, but with wisdom now at the middle age afforded me the full comprehension decided to reveal this for the knowledge of other people who would like to know.

Just like they (UNP) slaughtered many innocent inƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  wholesale as well as individually, they killed my father and deprived me my mother which left me in the middle of a desert for the whole life is simply everything in a single paragraph.

UNP regimeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s corrupt and inhuman acts of conduct since 1977 with drastic changes and blatant violations eroded the entire country to a pathetic level degradation which stays up until today, and no one will be able to straighten up it easily.

During UNP regime they eroded the state service to bellow evils, and their entire henchman were given pound of flesh leaving qualified and experienced people in the corners under suffer.

I pray, day and night, that May UNP donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t come to power in this land again, may its Dharmishta ruler and his clan and band wagon who originated the corruption and crime to the order of the day too, stay in the Hell for ever!

The new generation may not be aware of what has gone wrong since 1997 under UNP regime, but if you wish to know please email the undersigned and I will reply you.

Please no body vote ever for the UNP! ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ else, all of you will be in the hell.

A poignant story. With my own eyes I experienced the UNP era’s murderous regime – the double cab days 89/90 in Kandy. When they picked up a supposed to be a JVP supporter, a boutique operator by the wayside on Gunnapana/Wattapuluwa road, our vehicle was behind the scene. Our driver was ordered to put off lights and reverse the vehicle and he panicked and struggled and a young guy was pointing a gun at my head (I was stting near the window and my friend besides me). Somehow the driver managed to reverse the vehicle and the abductors sped off with a loud noise of engines, probably 2-3 vehicles in unison. The following day we heard of dead bodies and we visited the scene, the Nattharanpota bridge – 4 -5 young chaps with their heads blown off. I asked the police what was goging on and they said they know nothing about this and no one informs them of their intended visits to police areas.
On my move from Kandy to Colombo, I saw the infamous DIG’s vehicle stopping right in front of our lorry, picking up a guy at gun point who got off a moving bus and ran away. Probably he was killed and duumped somewhere.
Things have not changed. The friends of mine, who are friends of this government too, say the same killings and abductions are going on, the only difference is that you don’t see any bodies way laid anymore – they just disappear in this current Dharmista era. Imagine the fear of people in the North and East. There is denial of these occurences however no one can prove them too, including corruption of goverment officials, including the paliamentarians. The people who challenge these crooks in courts will be find themselves in ‘hot water’.
Showing aliance with the goverment is anyone’s choice and the right of any citizen, yet denial of these ‘not easily proven’ incidences is not healthy and foolish, which will exacersbate prevailing climate. No doubt some stories could be fabricated, which stems from the ‘idle chatter’ in our society, but some stories would be true.
Most of us prefer this devil to the UNP devil, but both devils are vicious, people fear to talk and the ordinary masses suffer. Law in a land is supreme above any institution hence 18th amendment, just as much as the 13 A must be repealed. When will we see a government who will restore the fundamental rights of people and freedom of expression to live in peace and dignity in Sri Lanka?

It is a fact today’s events are only a fraction of what happened then.

Just for the record, from 1977 to 1994, the war started (1983) that lasted till 2009, the largest ever killing of civilians took place (1989), 2 most violent race riots took place (1977 and 1983), the most violent attack on workers (1980), the killing of the most number of legislators, ministers and one president, the most number of killings of the clergy and the most number of brutal killing of opposition activists took place.

Even a Chief Justice at that time was a terrorist supporter in secrecy.

This is what was called the Dharmishta Society.

However, the present administration is killing the national economy which will in turn make more people hopeless and miserable than the events of 1977-94. In another decade the events of 1977-94 and 2010-2015 will not be very different in terms of overall impact on the totality of the economy of the masses and the lives of the masses.

  4. Dham Says:

    Dilrook,
There wer two CJ’s that time. Which one was that ? One with Sudda name or one with Tamil name ?

  5. Dham Says:

    Sunil,

“The friends of mine, who are friends of this government too, say the same killings and abductions are going on, the only difference is that you don’t see any bodies way laid anymore – they just disappear in this current Dharmista era.”

Sometimes those dissapear suddenly appear in Australia. As Charles said, people talk and talk but what is the truth ?
Do you personally know a single person dissapeared like that ? I know you speak the truth.

  6. Sunil Vijayapala Says:

I reported only and can do only two instances I witnessed. The rest with previous govt. and this govt, you need to go by/ask witnesses. Most of them fear to talk and thats the real situation. The govt is having a strong grip on this (however recent developments are encouraging where politicos are bein remamanded – I wonder whether its genuine or whit wash)
People may have different opinions on this and that’s the right of theirs. My friends who are friends of Mahinda will never attempt to sling mud at anyone in government unlesss they saw or go by RELIABLE info (as I mentioned here about the two I witnessed) People who believe me will believe me and others will just shun it as rumour and thats the game. It’s this factual statements of reliable people that counts most, not the run-of-the-mill ones. Some have witnessed and reported abductions (this is like the alien abductions) – the police attempt to take action – they are then over ruled by ‘authorities’ and the case is closed. True, some end up with a different identity altogether in a safe country to avoid percecution on murders etc. and that happens with most countries. Besides libel action curtails people coming forward. As I said before this devil is far better than the former devil – but to prove these devils are devils will be a devil’s job. By the way where is your girl friend – has he stopped writing? – my one too was kicked out – the karma vipaaka they face when you attempt to castigate Thathagata and his doctrine.

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

Shouldn’t Sri Lanka form a National Government to stop all the absurd infighting in politics ?

We have enough problems to solve within the country, without adding on them with stupid type politics which result in extra judicial killings, whatever quarter it comes from.

UNP especially has many reasons to add Lessons Learnt to their list. The Cold War is over so we should get together to rebuild the country.

  8. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

FRAN !!! I really agree with you on that. We should have a National Government. Ranil should have joined the Government and helped to put the Country on a sound footing. The problem is that he is the mother of all losers, yet he thinks that he can RULE THE COUNTRY. With that vision in mind, he is continuing to be a Traitor to the Country. In the process he is hurting the country, while trying to take revenge from the present Administrators of the Country.

He can be equated to the big fat man Karunhanidi who is always dreaming to achieve, what he will never ever will.

Yet, it is not too late for him to do something for the country, by joining the Government and swimming with the current, rather than against it. He should do that, before TNA entraps him to continue to do what he did during the INFAMOUS CFA. He will then be at a terrible security risk, while sleeping with the bloody TNA Terrorists again.

TNA has already stated that they are to join the UNP. That spells disaster to SRI LANKA and the UNPers.

SO, BEFORE THE UNP SHIP SINKS, THE UNP RATS ARE LEAVING THE SHIP, AND GETTING ONTO THE SAFEST VESSEL SLFP.

You can see thousands of UNPers leaving the dilapitated ship. It is in the news everyday.
