Honourable Dr. Manmohan Singh
Prime Minister of India
South Block, Raisina Hall, New Delhi, India, 110011

Dear Prime Minister:

You almost made me scream at you saying, “Come”¦on”¦Manmohan”¦stop being a Goddam joker” when I read the news item in Sri Lanka’s The Island of September 22, 2012, which said that you had asked the visiting President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka “”¦ raised the issue of devolution of power in order to allow the Tamil population to look forward to a future where they can live in dignity and respect.”   That is a bit high and mighty on your part isn’t it Manmohan?

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that there was no need to devolve power for the Tamils to live in dignity and respect as 41% of the population of the capital Colombo are peopled by the Tamils who live with dignity and respect, not in papered adobe shacks with cow-pad rubbed floors,  but in two storey houses in the rich suburbs of Colombo with polished  brass door knobs that shine towards heaven;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that there is no reason to devolve power to the Tamils as they live in dignity and respect anyway driving BMWs and not travelling in bullocks pulled rickety carts;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that there was no reason to devolve power to the Tamils as they already live in dignity and respect when their children attend private International Schools and not being waifs like the Slum-Dog Indian children not attending school and their play grounds happen to be mountains of home-waste;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that there was no need to devolve power to the Tamils as they already live in dignity and respect  even in rural Jaffna using flushing toilets not like in India where the Indian railway is really the world’s biggest open toilet as mentioned by your own Jairam Ramesh, the Minister of Rural Development;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that his 21 million people enjoy privacy when using their toilets while 625 million Indians in your vast country, according to the World Health Organization use open areas being the only toilet options, and  as such there was no need to devolve power to the Tamils to live in dignity and respect;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that he doesn’t feel ashamed as you may do, as in your case around 1.3 million people, mostly members of the predominantly low-caste Dailit community are involved in clearing human waste in areas where there is no modern sewage system, and his citizens don’t, and thus there was no need to devolve power unnecessarily to the Tamils for them to live in dignity and respect as they enjoy it already;

Didn’t President Rajapaksa tell you that devolving power to the Tamils in Sri Lanka where there is religious freedom, will not help the low-caste Tamils enter Hindu Kovils to worship as the old pot bellied Brahmin Tamils with three horizontal strokes of ash on their foreheads will  not let these  low-caste Tamils enter their Hindu Kovils for worship.  That’s how the cooky crumbles in that part of our world;

So let’s cut out this crap of asking President Rajapaksa to devolve power to the Tamils in the North so that they can live in  dignity and respect.

Do you know something Manmohan Singh, I bet my last paisa that every member of the 1.3 million low caste Dalit community would move heaven and earth to exchange places with the whining Sri Lankan Northern Tamils who think that they are being denied to live with respect and dignity in Sri Lanka.  They don’t know how blessed they are.  Poor buggers! They are a bunch of crummy, Tamil politician swayed dreamers.

So Manmohan Singh, let’s cut out that sordid crap of yours.   Devolve powers to the Tamils in the North, Ha! My foot.    I know where you are coming from with the Indian Monroe Doctrine still at play. You are no friendly neighbour of Sri Lanka anyway.  Remember your country vote in March in Geneva, don’t you?  That was rough, sordid and ugly.  And you thought that you would be the first turban headed Pied Piper and expected other Asian nations to fall behind you, didn’t you Manmohan to vote for that US resolution to hang Sri Lanka from the UN’s wall?  And I am happy that you were taught a solid lesson in Asian solidarity.  As my mother always told me, “Son, it’s never too late to learn!”

    What else does Monmohan Singh want? Stop the development of HAMBANTOTTA harbor and the Air port. He has said this openly.

  3. Ananda-USA Says:

    India, as the nation that trained, delivered, funded and supported Tamil terrorists in Sri Lanka, and bullied and invaded our Motherland with the IPKF to partition it in favor of Tamil separatists, has MUCH TO ATONE FOR to win Sri Lanka’s traditional friendship and love for India.

    Supporting UN War Crimes charges, and pressuring Sri Lanka to devolve power to ethnic minorities on racial, religious, caste, or sex communal bases is NOT THE WAY TO DO IT. All PATRIOTIC Sri Lankans RESENT these moves.

    As a nation that injured Sri Lanka and initiated, aided and abetted, a 30-year conflict between communities in Sri Lanka, India has NO STANDING in Sri Lankan eyes to interfere in our INTERNAL MATTERS with proposals for devolution of power to Tamils designed to further EMBED and EXACERBATE communal divisions in our country.

    We Sri Lankans INDEED oppose devolution of power on communal bases. So, BUTT OUT!

    ALL of Sri Lanka, in its entirety, is the home of ALL Sri Lankans to be enjoyed EQUALLY EVERYWHERE, irrespective of communal differences. There are no Sinhala areas, Tamil Areas, or Muslim Areas in Sri Lanka. Any citizenshould be able to move to any place in Sri Lanka, buy land and settle down, as the majority of Tamil people of Sri Lanka already do by living in the Sinhala majority areas.

    We do not accept either India’s, or of the United States, FEDERAL models as promoting social amity and national stability. In India that system has largely failed to preserve the peace and to uplift all Indians equally; as a result India is teetering on on the cusp of disintegration.

    We in Sri Lanka have an enviable record social justice unmatched by India. Therefore, India, far behind Sri Lanka in assuring social justice and progress of its citizens, has NO RELEVANT EXPERIENCE to offer Sri Lanka.

    Instead, India should follow Sri Lanka’s example and uplift its people with equity in employment, education, healthcare, land ownership, etc assigning government benefits on the basis of NEED alone and not on communal bases (eg. scheduled cates) that pit its citizens against one another. India should CEASE & DESIST from PLACATING RACIST DEMAGOGUES in Tamil Nadu for political advantage, at Sri Lanka’s expense and should not advocate communal approaches to governance in Sri Lanka.

    If India CONSISTENTLY does that, and TRULY ATONES for its crimes against Sri Lanka, India will regain Sri Lanka as its most reliable and supportive ally in South Asia.

    It is up to India to WIN our Sri Lankan HEARTS & MINDS with NON-INTERFERENCE in our internal matters. Increased assistance for infrastructure development, followed by increased trade and cultural interactions can accelerate the repairing of our historically friendly relationship as kindred peoples.

  4. Lorenzo Says:

    Can’t MR tell him NO?

    It is time SL tells India and USA that we will NOT devolve power to Tamils but share power with everyone irrespective of ethnicity.

    Looks like Manmohan is still looking up at Jayalalitha’s as in the cartoon.

  5. Vijendra Says:

    Mr. Singh, what has happened to the country that gave the world the gift of religion, science, mathematics, philosophy and literature?

    We Sri Lankans are eternally thankful to India for giving us the gift of religion, Buddhism, which builds the basic character of the Sri Lankan. We do not fight to conquer, but trust in the eternity of truth. We Sri Lankans return good for the evil done to us, executing the noble idea, which has its origins in India’s gift to us.

    With calm goodness, patience and gentleness, one day the truth will triumph!

  6. Dham Says:

    India (the toiletless smelly state) did not give us Buddhism because it did not have any Buddhism.
    Sri Lanka gave India Buddhism, and still giving.

    It is the Land fo Asoka ( which is not India) send the Sangha to Lanka. Lankan king , with goog inteligence , accepted and adopted the religion.

    Currently, despite Lankans keep teaching stupid Indians keep derstan degrading Buddhism by saying it is a sect of Hidusim and insulting Prince Sidhdarta that he was a Hindu, a religion did not exist that time.

    Hinduism is not the alternative to Buddhism, it a hinderance to proper understanding humanity.

  7. Melbourne Patriot Says:

    Tamil Refugees (allegedly Sri Lankan) in Tamilnadu complain about maltreatment of them by the Indian government. Manmohan should look after them before pointing finger at us. It is better if India keeps these refugees as some of them are not Sri Lankan anyway but planted by Nedumaran et al to send to Sri Lanka to promote the concept of separatism

  8. Voice123 Says:

    I always thought the Buddha and Buddhism came from what is modern day Nepal? Am I wrong? Are our politicians and the Indians just twisting the truth for political purposes? Anyway Buddhism was brutally wiped out of India by militant Brahmins and Muslims wasnt it whereas the religion is alive and well in Nepal?

  13. Ananda-USA Says:

    DIVERSITY belongs in the PRIVATE SPHERE: in people’s private lives, and in their religious and community organizations.

    The PUBLIC SPHERE (Governance, Employment, Finances, Health, Land, Justice, Benefits etc) should be BLIND to communal differences and promote UNITY as ONE Sri Lankan PEOPLE, irrespective of community.

    Promotion of DIVERSITY in the PUBLIC SPHERE through LAWS that allocate rights and responsibilities of citizens by community is a COMPLETELY DESTRUCTIVE NOTION that would DIVIDE PEOPLE on Communal bases of race, religion, caste, sex, and wealth, PERMANENTLY EMBEDDING and PERPETUATING Communal divisions in SOCIETY and in GOVERNANCE forever.

    This is the CRUX of what most Patriots at LankaWeb, and elsewhere, have been advocating as an approach to eliminating communal discord within Sri Lanka. That is why we completely REJECT the identifications of separate Sinhala areas, Tamil areas, Muslim areas etc in Sri Lanka. The GOAL should be to create ONE Sri Lankan NATION, of ONE Sri Lankan PEOPLE, sharing ONE Sri Lankan DESTINY celebrating their DIVERSITY in the PRIVATE SPHERE … in their lives as individuals.

    DIVERSITY in the PUBLIC SPHERE will require allocation and division of rights and responsibilities according to one’s community. That will lead to separatism, and creation of multiple COMMUNAL BANTUSTANS which exclude people of other communities, in effect creating separate sub-national states. That will inexorably lead to warfare as communal bureaucracies memonizing other communities develop, and DEMGOGUES use communal levers to jockey into power, and opulation pressures generate competition for dwindling natural resources.

    We see that happening in South India today as India recognizes States on the basis of Race (eg. Tamil Nadu), and in India as a whole as the Union Government allocates benefits on the basis of caste (eg. Scheduled castes). This leads to separatism raising its ugly head, and to internecine warfare between different castes (eg. Brahmins Vs. Dalits) and religious communities (eg. Hindus Vs. Muslims).

    Why should Sri Lanka that has suppressed and eradicated most of these societal diseases, open Pandora’s Box and REVIVE them again? God Forbid!

    You repeat “Unity in Diversity…No Short Cut!”, just as our Eelamist and Western tormentors do trying to DIVIDE and DESTROY Sri Lanka mindlessly reciting the mantra of “Diversity” to unthinking people, without specifying where exactly that DIVERSITY should reign. ALL of your examples supporting DIVERSITY will only promote DIVISIVE CENTRIFUGAL TENDENCIES.

    DIVERSITY in the PUBLIC SPHERE to SLICE & DICE Sri Lanka into a patchwork of warring COMMUNAL BANTUSTANS is the WRONG KIND of diversity.

    DIVERSITY in the PRIVATE SPHERE, in people’s private lives and community organizations, that does not affect their rights and responsibilities as citizens, is the RIGHT KIND of diversity.

    DIVERSITY should ENRICH but NOT DEGRADE UNITY. With this kind of CORRECT UNDERSTANDING of DIVERSITY we can UNIFY our people into ONE Sri Lankan PEOPLE, living in ONE Sri Lankan NATION, sharing ONE Sri Lankan DESTINY, endowed with inalienable freedom to enjoy and celebrate their community diversity in their homes, their temples and their community organizations.

  14. Ananda-USA Says:

    It is finally beginning to dawn on the Indian Body Politic that the Racist Demagogues of Tamil Nadu, attacking Sri Lanka in their competition with one another to gain power in Tamil Nadu, are undermining India’s national interests by DESTROYING the ONLY RELIABLE ALLIANCE that India has in South Asia: the alliance with Sri Lanka.

    We have to keep conveying our MESSAGE to India: Sri Lanka will support India’s security and prosper together, but only if India honours Sri Lanka’s SOVEREIGNTY by not INTERFERING in our INTERNAL MATTERS, CONTROLS & PROTECTS Sri Lanka from disruptive Indian Tamil demagogues, and SUPPORTS Sri Lanka on the Global Stage against the Tamil Diaspora and the Jaundiced West.

    If India does not do that, then Sri Lanka must FEND FOR ITSELF, ANY WAY WE CAN.
    India-Sri Lanka relations hostage to Tamil parties

    By Shastri Ramachandaran
    September 25, 2012

    India’s neighbours are not necessarily its friends. They can hardly be called India’s allies. In regional and international forums, more often than not, they are ranged against one another. History, geography, religion, geopolitics, uneven development, competing ambitions and much else account for this state of affairs.

    As a result, bilateral relations have their ups and downs and can be warm or chilly, euphoric or troubling. Even so, over the decades, the South Asian countries have learned to live and let live, regardless of the problems at home and across their respective borders.

    The striving is to maintain friendly relations, a climate conducive for talks on matters of mutual interest and to prevent any situation from reaching breaking point. However, Tamil Nadu’s political parties, despite being an integral part of coalition governments at the Centre for long years now, do not seem to have grasped this elementary aspect of diplomacy.

    The Kazhagams – Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK, Karunanidhi’s DMK and Vaiko’s MDMK – do their best to vitiate India’s relations with Sri Lanka. The sideshows staged by these parties against India-Sri Lanka cooperation and against dignitaries (and ordinary citizens) from the island republic would be handy to illustrate a tract on “How to lose friends and alienate people”.

    It is bad enough that New Delhi is not good at making friends of India’s neighbours. It is worse when the DMK and AIADMK push their sectarian agenda in external affairs and foment hostility to cultivate ill will.

    Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit last week was yet another occasion for the Kazhagams to put up their predictable tamasha of protests – in the name of championing the rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The frontline performer this time was MDMK general secretary Vaiko.

    President Rajapaksa, who laid the stone for a University of Buddhist and Indic Studies in Sanchi, held wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi. Doubtless, devolution of powers to create conditions for Sri Lanka’s Tamils “to live with dignity and respect”, elections in the Tamil-dominated Northern Province and the political plight of Tamils after the LTTE’s defeat in May 2009 were discussed between Singh and Rajapaksa.

    A Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and Indian fishermen being attacked by Sri Lankan navy were among the items on the agenda of the two leaders, who also met without their aides.

    The significance of the meeting goes beyond the issues discussed because, one, it was the first meeting between the two heads of government after India voted against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council in March this year. Two, this was the first meeting to deal with a range of substantive issues after June 2010. Three, Sri Lanka’s human rights record comes up for review at the end of this year. Four, New Delhi is keen to address the unrest among Tamils by pressing for their political rights. (In contrast, the Kazhagams appear to be interested in whipping up sentiment solely for political mileage in Tamil Nadu).

    New Delhi has to make amends for the blunder of voting with the US against Sri Lanka in the UNHRC. Whereas the DMK and AIADMK keep targeting Sri Lanka as part of their petty one-upmanship games against each other. Their posturing has provoked attacks on innocent Sri Lankan pilgrims visiting Tamil Nadu. AIADMK chief minister Jayalalithaa objected to Sri Lankan defence personnel being trained in military institutions in India. Karunanidhi sought to outdo Jayalalithaa by saying that Sri Lanka cannot be considered “friendly” – because it allows China to execute defence projects in Jaffna.

    It may not occur to the DMK and AIADMK that their posturing may be driving Sri Lanka (away from India) into the arms of China. If these parties persist in their unfriendly campaign, Sri Lanka may be forced to not only hand over more projects to China, or even Pakistan, but even start sending their defence personnel to these countries for training. Then the fat would be truly in the fire.
    Sri Lanka is in a zone of Indian influence and is of enormous strategic value. India is Sri Lanka’s preferred partner and the one country from which it would like all help. Instead of creating conditions that make Colombo approach Beijing or Islamabad, it is high time the national parties make the DMK and AIADMK see strategic sense

    These two regional parties are not being just perverse. They are being irresponsible and hurting India’s strategic interests. One would have expected that with stints at the Centre, they would acquire an understanding of India’s larger national interest, strategic stakes and global role. Far from that, as their role and power expands at the Centre, the Kazhagams’ worldview seems to be shrinking into even narrower confines.

    Nalai pirakum Thamil Eelam !!!

  18. Ananda-USA Says:

    Let me get this straight: you believe in having different standards for different people in the world?

    One set of standards and rules for the Western World, and
    Another set of standards and rules for the Eastern World?

    as if Westerners come from Mars, and Easterners come from Venus?

    You have not only ADVOCATED the horrible DOUBLE STANDARD that we ACCUSE some Westerners of applying to Sri Lanka, but have also DENIED Westerners and Easterners a common humanity and shared feelings and aspirations as sentient beings!

    In fact, by specifically identifying the list of matters/attributes you cite as “differences” between Sri Lankans and Westerners, you have PROVED MY POINT …. as they are ALL PRIVATE & PERSONAL private COMMUNAL matters which ought to be left to individuals to freely choose for themselves in their private lives, and should remain outside the control of government and the public at large.

    They are not matters in the PUBLIC SPHERE (like Governance, Employment, Finances, Health, Land, Justice, Benefits etc) that should NOT BE BASED upon COMMUNAL considerations.

    If COMMUNAL attributes were considered, then it is possible for marriages between Tamils and Sinhalese to be banned by law, Tamils to be prevented from living in “Sinhala majority areas” and Sinhalese to be prevented from living in “Tamil majority areas” effectively leading first to ethnic cleansing and racist separatism sanctioned by law, people to be to be denied jobs and/or healthcare in government hospitals according to their ethnicity, and so on, ad infintum, ad nauseam. These are many of the abhorrent things that the White Boers practiced against the native African majority in Apartheied South Africa. That is the LOGICAL OUTCOME, in time, of the form of “DIVERSITY” you advocate.

    Wow! NO WONDER you are cheering “Nalai Pirakum Thamil Eelam!” because DOUBLE STANDARDS are what Eelamists want: A Tamil Eelam EXCLUSIVELY for Tamils only, and an EQUAL SHARE of the rest of Sri Lanka as Sri Lankan “citizens”! This is the ULTIMATE in DOUBLE STANDARDS & RACISM!

    Not too long ago a Tamil writer Dr. Kanthar P. Balanathan posted an article at Lankaweb on the awful racist cast-ridden selfish attitudes that Eelamist Tamils hide under the cover of “ETHNIC DIVERSITY”.

    It is NOT SUFFICIENT that ALL Tamils are endowed with Equal Rights and Responsibilities as Sri Lankan citizens, but they also want to have a SEPARATE EELAM where they can enjoy SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE PRIVILEGES unavailable to non-Eelam-Tamil Sri Lankan citizens, all cloaked in the name of “DIVERSITY” and preservation of “Ethnic Identity”! This mimics the laws of the Aparthied White South Africans at their VERY WORST.

    No, my friend …. we PATRIOTS of Lanka will NEVER ALLOW such a RACIST EELAMIST ENTITY to raise its ugly head in our Motherland … NEVER

    First Dhamma School in Jaffna to foster harmony

    By Priyanka KURUGALA
    September 27, 2012

    * Measure to rekindle Buddhism in North

    * Promoting religious harmony among all

    The first Dhamma School in Jaffna will be opened on September 30 to revive Buddhism in the North which suffered neglect under three decades of LTTE terrorism.

    Ravi Kumar

    The Tamil Buddhist Association will conduct the Dhamma School programme in Jaffna. It is hoped the move will lay the foundation to promote religious harmony between all ethnic groups in the Northern Province, Tamil Buddhist Association president A Ravi Kumar said.

    Jaffna Mayor Logeshwari Pathgunaraja and Divisional Secretary Sundaram Arumageinayagam will open the school. Ven Meegahajandure Siri Wimala Thera of the Jaffna Naga Vihara said due to the LTTE’s dominance during the past 30 years, around 15,000 Tamil Buddhists who had membership of the Tamil Buddhist Association, had given up participating in social activities since the terrorists banned events conducted under a Buddhist theme.

    “Tamil Buddhists in the North were threatened by the LTTE and all their activities came to a standstill,” the Thera said.

    “The LTTE inculcated the belief in the minds of the Tamils that the Buddha belongs solely to the Sinhalese. Even today, many Tamils in the North hold on to this misconception and they need to be corrected,” the Thera said.

    He said the Tamil Buddhist Association works with the World Hindu-Buddhist Association to enhance the living standards of people suffering under many problems.

    “Starting a Dhamma School in Jaffna will create the proper path to reawaken Buddhism in the North,” the Thera said.

  25. Lorenzo Says:

    Good move BUT why “Tamil” Buddhist Association?

    Why continue with this racism in Jaffna? Is it because ANYTHING without “Tamil” as a prefix doesn’t SELL in Jaffna?

    It should BE ANOTHER SL Buddhist Association. Otherwise the division created by LTTE is maintained between Sinhala Buddhist and Tamil Buddhist associations.

  26. Ananda-USA Says:

    Mea Culpa!

    I agree with you whole heartedly that Buddhist Associations ESPECIALLY should avoid names that promote and embed COMMUNAL divisions.

    Perhaps “Jaffna Buddhist Association” would be a better name for it, since THERE IS A NEED to emphasize that this association in being formed in the Tamil Tigers lair with the support of the local population.

  27. Dilrook Says:

    I agree with Ananda-USA.

    It is a long awaited move. The path taken by Mahinda Thero and Sangamitta starts from a northern island (Kytes?) and extends to Anuradhapura. It is unthinkable people along this path was untouched by Buddhism. It is time to revive it that was lost to violence and communalism.

  28. lingamAndy Says:

    The path taken by Mahinda Thero and Sangamitta starts from a northern island (Kytes? where I was born ) and extends to Anuradhapura ! – Are these two people not Tamil specking ???
