I wrote this piece as a comment to I. Ahmad essay, the heading of which is outlined below. On second thought the majority of my enemies would have missed it I felt and unable to offer their valuable opinion. No doubt about it I. Ahmad has done satisfactory research concerning AyeshaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s age as to when the prophet consummated his marriage with Ayesha. I have not gone deep into his findings; but if it historically tallies with what he assesses, then the showing of video was uncalled for.
Indeed he makes an excellent comparative analysis Vis a Vis Catholic Church contra Muslim girlsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ age of consent.
He writes;
ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The Catholic Encyclopedia says Mary Mother of Jesus (peace be on him) was 11 (and Joseph was 90) upon their marriage. [The Catholic Encyclopedia: An International Reference of Work on the Constitution, Doctrine, Discipline, and History of the Catholic Church, New York Robert Appleton Company, Vol. VIII, Pg. 505]. Yet, we do not hear anti-Islam elements raise objection to this recorded fact of history. If Ayesha, even at age 12, was too young to be married, then certainly Mary Mother of Jesus was too young. Likewise, if Prophet Muhammad at the age of 53 was too old to marry Ayesha, then Joseph at age 90 was certainly too old. Yet, such objections do not exist, demonstrating the double standard anti-Islam individuals assert against Muslims.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚
This information too I did not check up but I am willing to accept these facts as bona fide.
Yet the fallout of the above information is sensational; leaving aside the marriages; the real question which emerges is: did Joseph and Mary consummate their rights. Not if going by the Catholic Church and the Christians at large. For they accept a bizarre fact without much ado, or investigation that; Mary was a virgin and a holy virgin no less!
Personally to me, it is unimportant whether she was a virgin or not, when she became impregnated with Jesus, (Naturally any sane people will not accept anyoneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s virginity after impregnation without a doctorƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s certificate)!
That begs the question: How can the bible implicitly canvass for a virginity of a mortal mother without any physical evidence, thought divinely impregnated or otherwise?
I mulled over this crucial question and found that there are three alternatives to choose from;
a.) That Mary is truly a virgin and God planted the seed of Jesus by bypassing biological hindrances, well these are the marvelous things a God does for reasons only he can explain. But being a rationalist I will suspend judgment till I see tangible physical evidence as to this much touted virginity of Mary.
b.) Second possibility, however unpalatable to the Christians may be; is that Joseph was the father of Jesus. If this is a fact, then Joseph has been a con artist of a grand magnitude.
c.) However this last option though utterly distasteful the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-true believersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ is the most rational of the alternatives and I will put my money on this one. That Joseph was cuckolded. In which case the last sentence of section
b.) Above, the names of Joseph, and Mary should interchange here.
Thanks Ahmad, without grasping the consequences you have opened a can of worms. Thanks here, because I have been waiting for this opportunity to question this myth!
By the way you may be not aware, but ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”AyeshaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ the youngest and the favorite of the Prophet and she is also the daughter of the first caliph of Islam (Abu Baker); but above all was also the initiator of the Shea Sunni divide. Those past deeds it seems to me will fire the WW III, thus engulfing the Shea, Sunni not to mention the Christians.
Personally Ahamd I am of the opinion that most number of the holy wars was initiated by one or other of imagined Gods of the Judeo-Christian sects that emerged from the desert.
Out of the three sects I support Judaism, not due their being a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”chosen peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ or any such ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”hogwashƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.
But for two historical and provable facts; they had not annihilated any Buddhist nations and taken over their land (read the history of the Silk Road nations); perhaps you notice what Taliban did to the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”BuddhaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s of BamiyanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, so world at large can clearly experience the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-intoleranceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ by the adherents of the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-religion of peaceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚!
Secondly it is the Jews out of all the Judeo-Christian sects, outside of Asia that aided the dissemination of Buddhism to the world at large.
No one can question the Jewish impact on the sum total of knowledge as Jew bag most of the Nobel prices in natural sciences. And if Islam is no threat to their survival, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-The JewsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ with their intelligence and wisdom, has to end up as Buddhist!
Ahmed no use accusing outsiders for the hostility shown to Islam, go into your percepts and you will find the reasons therein, as you did in this case! But would you?

Imagine an Islamic only country. Is it peaceful? No. Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds kill each other. Women are forced to engage in the world’s oldest profession by having to marry married men. Concepts of Jihad promote violence. If anyone thinks on Islamic concepts and says his views which differ from established views, he will be killed for blasphemy. It will be a Fatwa and Jihad society.

“King David had six wives and numerous concubines”
– Old Testament -2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3,
“King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines”
– Old Testament 1 Kings 11:3
“King Solomon’s son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines”

In biblical times adulthood could refer to the age of Puberty or even younger age. The minimum age for marriage according to the Talmud is 13 for boys, 12 for girls (“erusin” can take place before that, and often did in medieval times) and a girl is acquired to be a wife through money, a contract, and sexual intercourse. Usually all of these conditions are satisfied, although only one is enough to effect a binding marriage.
In Ashkenazi Jewish communities in the Middle Ages, girls were married off very young. Any girl between the age of 3 and 12 was completely subject to her father’s authority, and her father could arrange a marriage for her without her agreement.
Not only was it a custom in the Jewish society to marry a young girl it was also common in the Arab society.
The Child Marriage Restraint Act, 1929 which forbade the marriage of a male younger than 21 or a female younger than 18 was passed during the tenure of British rule on pre-partition India.
Even today about 50% of Yemeni girls are married before 18, some as young as 8.
BTW the Holy Bible has lots of “interesting” stories like

Surely people are so poor on Religious knowledge.I am asking some questions.
* Why we should have a religion?
* What is the purpose of our existence?
* who is worthy to worship?.
* Are there any God to be worshiped?
Firstly,if we believe there is a God,definitely we have to search,Is there any divine guidence from God.(how to live,how to worship etc)from intercause to death.
Secondly:As ethiest belief,if we born by an accident,it’s ok to live as we like.no need to bother about Religions
thirdly:,Is there any true Religion(which came from God).
Fourth:If we are worshiping some one to,solve our problems,hardship,grievance etc.then no meaning to worship anyone other than God(who created mankind from nothing and created the universe etc).
Philosophies are just good advises, not divine messages.If you want to worship,something,someone etc, Pls worship to God(Dead bodies cant help anyone).

This is a sensitive subject. But, we say that Blind Belief is not healthy for the human mind or body.
With offence to none, we ask : “shouldn’t ancient belief systems without reason and scientific backing, be gently put aside ?”.
The Core Teachings of all religions are the similar. Are we all now ready to accept religions Core Teachings and move on and lead happy and peaceful lives ?

In ancient times, did number of wives equal a sort of wealth, power & potency ?
Also, an average human life span was generally shorter, therefore reproductive activity likely started sooner. In those times, the rich/poor gap was huge, so chances of acquiring quick wealth/power by marriage would have been highly desirable – the earlier the the age the better, as the ‘victim’ would not have understood what was happening, and not have had a chance to ever protest being bartered off to some wealthy person.

In Animal Kingdom female selects male only if the male is strong and able to protect. If a male fights against another male of the same species then the male that wins the fight will have the chance to mate with several females and also the male will pass on its genes to its offspring.

I wonder why are you such a ignorant? There are 56 or 57 muslim majority countries in the world,from Malasia,Indonesia to Albania.how many countries facing secretarian violence?and how could you through the stone on Muslim countries? while we have killed more than 200000 innocent civilians,since indepandence.(as you claim Budhists country).there is nothing to do religion with violence,but people are always greedy for power and wealth.hence all the extremism and violence are existing in every society.don’t fool the public,as well as don’t blind yourself while indicating other.

Religion is an opium that can be used either constructively to preach peace or to terrorize the defenseless and kill women and children. As Christianity forged its way through the Atlantic and Indian ocean via European and American ships, the Arabs found a way of riding camels through deserts with Islam on their helm.
Buddhism is a philosophy and it is something other than the superstitious rubbish most of the people believe religion to be. Religions including Christianity and Islam are passionate, irrational and messy. But Buddhism is the flower of human intellect and it is reasonable and civilized. Religions including Christianity and Islam inspire war and atrocity; at worst, Buddhism incites mild arguments over tea.

Apart from the occasional dictators and the tragic results of race-hatred and militant armed groups, today the western superpowers carry the gauntlet. How many wars and power struggles does our planet has to endure, for petroleum, minerals and economic advantage? Not only these power mongers wage wars to get what they want, they also exert power through embargoes and other political blackmail to achieve their greed and power.

There is also the FEAR factor operating in the world today. Fear of hunger/poverty, of being enslaved, of being abandoned, etc. These are primeval Fears that beset mankind.
In actual fact, Nature can produce more Food than we can ever want. We have to learn to properly store Food for lean times of bad weather, disease, etc.
We think that Co-operation, Kindness & Compassion must overrule all those Fears. Family Planning & birth control a must too, as overcrowding in any species generally brings strife.

As NT says, EVEN IN THE ANIMAL KINGDOM (where is it accepted behaviour), there are norms!!
MOST Islamic countries are UNFORTUNATELY entangled in violence, isn’t it? I’m only stating a fact.
In Islamic countries violence was created by the people against one another. In SL violence was created by outsiders. In SL violence started in 1983 and ended in 2009. But in Saudi, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc., etc. violence NEVER ENDS.

Tamil racism, Islamic extremism and Western colonialism are the BIGGEST threats facing SL today. The EVIL TRIANGLE. Something got to be done about them preferably through the defence apparatus. Otherwise Sambandan and Hackhim will lay terrorism eggs again.

With Globalisation, all sorts of cultures, religions are interacting. Society in any given country is a complex mix, even within so called mono-ethnic cultures, though to a lesser extent. For a small country like Sri Lanka, we are overly diverse.
It is best that each of us take responsibility for our actions, seek Peace (even wars are fought in the Quest for Peace !), and Happiness. It is also best we seek solutions through strategy, and not wait till defence units have to be called into action. We are all INTERDEPENDENT & INTERACTIVE, like it or not.

Most of the commentators while commenting on side issues, avoided commenting on the vital issue posted by me. Was the Holy mother a virgin or not? If not, who was Jesus’ father? That is the question?
It does not help side tracking, when confronted with real issues!
