Mr. MacrayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s journalistic ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”visionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ of Sri Lanka changed the day that Channel 4 was ordered out of Sri Lanka for fabricating their coverage in favor of the terrorists.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Then onwards, any opportunity to launch a media-attack on the government of Sri Lanka was opportunistically seized by Mr. Macray to tarnish her image.

It is well-known around Sri Lankan circles that a group of tigers who abandoned fight and fled to Germany is behind the doctored ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”killing fieldsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I really wish Mr. Macray, in his haste for action against Sri Lanka, had at least, in the name of journalism, taken pains to verify the authenticity of the (doctored) video.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Unfortunately, he did not, and this opportunity was seized by relatives of the terrorists, many who conveniently used the war to gain access to the greener pastures of the West (i.e., England). Unfortunately, Mr. MacrayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s apparent quest for self-glory/revenge is resulting in an all-out attempt to tarnish the image of a proud and united Nation.

Just to remind Mr. Macray of some obvious blunders the western media made during the end of the war on terror in Sri Lanka, Photo 1 (below) appeared all over the world airing early 2009.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The photo depicts Tamil civilians running in terror as smoke from an apparent bomb is seen rising.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This would have served as ammunition for opportunistic anti-Sri Lanka forces to gain international sympathy.

I hope that Mr. Macray, once enlightened on the lengths of fabrication and forgery that the Tamil tiger terroristsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ kith and kin have gone to gain sympathy from the international front, will realize the mistakes he has made.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He has accused Sri Lanka, a sovereign country, who defended herself against manic terrorism, of gross violations, without even bothering to check authenticity of the videos and photos that channel 4 aired.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr. Macray even went to the length of airing this fake video during the UN gathering in New York.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All protests against the validity of this video, were directed to journalismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s standardƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s-panel in England, where judges, all of them former channel 4 employees, decided that channel 4 had ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-abided by (their) journalism standardsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚(in airing ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”killing fieldsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢!!! ).

Vis8 is correct. The only thing that will stop this is if SOMEBODY takes them to court. Financially pick them off, one by one, as if they were snipers. Apart from military measures, financial measures are the most potent tool to fight this sort of media terrorism. If GOSL doesnt do it, a private organisation should do it. I dont know how many millions of Euros/Pounds this would cost and the finer legal points, but if somebody was to organise it, I would contribute something towards it. Would anybody else join? How much can we collectively raise?

I think definitely and primarily it is the US,UK,EU,Canada, Australia, Norway and HRW, Amnesty International and the likes of Channel 4, Independent et. al. it is they who are primarily against Sri Lanka. The LTTE supporters in the west are secondary and are actually a useful tool for the US,UK,EU,Canada and co. This has been sadly very clear for a very long time now.
However as a Sri Lankan I am very glad we have peace in Sri Lanka between the sinhala and tamil people and we are living in harmony now. The US,UK,EU,Canada club does not like that. They don’t want the sinhala, tamil,muslim peoples unity and will do anything to destroy the present prevailing harmony in the country and are trying everything to destroy the peaceful environment in the country. The US,UK,EU,Canadas behaviour proves this beyond any doubt. It is all about divide and rule for them.
Yes it is high time the Sri Lankan govt countered this bullshit, its getting tiresome this UNHRC bullshit meetings to haul Sri Lanka up for this or that trumped up charges.

It is the motto of Tamil separatists to “Repeat Lies”, as, when one keeps repeating lies, at least one gullible person out of a hundred, might believe such lies and that is an achievement. If the separatists could get the media, politicians and NGOs to join them with their campaign to vilify SriLanka, then it would be so much easier to capture a much larger audience of unsuspecting people. To execute this plan, the separatists are constantly in search of either well meaning journalists but gullible idiots deperate for news to publish in their journals or greedy shameless journalists who do not care for journalistic or any type of ethics, if only they could stack their bank accounts, even with blood money. What Mr Macray and his ilk may not care to know is that, quite obviously, at private gatherings of these very same separatists, those like Mr Macray are laughed at for belonging to one of these two categories. Also, I wonder whether it is true that Mr Macray is married to a Tamil woman activist, which may put him in the gullible idiots category.

It is time to stop talking and the GoSL did something to stop this and the only language these bogus propaganda merchants for the LTTE will understand is a financil hammering. Well the claimed by Amnesty etc, etc is all a bloody canard just to bring down the reputation of SL and an attempt to get MR etc before the International Criminal Court. But, in a way all this serves us right for not taking timely libel action against Amnesty, CH4 etc for repeating this lie ad-nauseam. The ‘excuse’ given is that we have to conserve our resources to look after our people and not waste it on litigation. Be that as it may, this inaction can consume more of our meager resources in the long term as it is just happening right now. The only way these propaganda merchants can be made to shut up is a hefty court order for damages. If we do that once they will all shut up – and if we do not all the bogus allegations will go on forever. Don’t forget some 500 yrs of Colonial rule and all the confusion left behind after Independence in 1948. That is a lesson never to be forgotten for the Sinhale. What we are experiencing unpleasantly today is mostly a hangover from Colonists’ actions.
Let re-cap a bit of history :
During Colonial times, the British brought in over a Million low caste Tamils to work the tea estates. The Dutch brought in about half a Million Tamils to work their tobacco plantations. It is the this ethnic imbalance created by COLONISTS that Sri Lanka is paying dearly for even today.
Upcountry Tamils (also known as Indian Tamils) plucked Tea for the British cuppa. The Line Rooms (one room for a family) for tea plucker families are still there from British times, are they not ? The living conditions of Upcountry Tamils, though now better than in Brit times now, is an area to be looked into more closely. It is still these Tamil people from old times who work in tea estates now mainly owned by GoSL but run by the old Tea Brokering firms. It is another area that groups that attack Sri Lanka on HR issues can count on (see internet). It is also an area that Tamil illegal migrants hone in on, as it is an area of so called “Indian Tamils”, a protected species. Hangovers of mistreatment from ancient 3,000 yr old Caste/poverty issues among Tamils lead to insular life styls among Tamil tea pluckers.
So called HR violations are exaggerated by outside elements in order to destabilise Sri Lanka. (Tamils of Sri Lanka have a better life than they would in Tamil Nadu). Tamil leaders see this as a great opportunity to unify the Tamil community split by Caste/poverty issues, both in Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. Eventually all this leads to CONFUSION for others in Lanka, and leads to destabiisation of Lanka and Tamil Separatists have a field day for their cause. Actions perceived as HR violations also lead to insurrections and terrorism, and eventual wars where thousands die.
Isn’t it time for Sri Lanka to MECHANISE & MODERNISE tea plucking as done in China & Africa etc. ? This would enable anyone to pluck tea, releasing the traditional Tamil tea plucker to do as they wish re work. The tea plucking machines are easy to operate and are like a ‘dust buster’ used in homes in the west. With machines, others there too can enter the tea plucking employment with ease.
With a released Upcountry (INdian) Tamil community it would lead to no more wars, no more dissent, no more IC condemnation, no more losses for Sri Lanka, etc. etc. The pluses are many. The trick is to get Modernised here without getting neo-Colonised !

I have nothing against the upcountry Tamils unless they are LTTE sympathisers. The British exploited them and treated them like slaves. When they left, the British should have done the right thing and taken them to Britain, just like they did for the Uganda Indians. Occasionally I hear (mixed race) planters descendants criticise the Sinhalese as being “racist” towards the Tamils and think that is quite hypocritical when their British antecedents sucked the blood of the indentured Tamils.

I too have nothing against the original Tamils who fled Tamil Nadu Caste/poverty issues to come and work for the British as Indentured Labor (Master/Slave basis) in Sri Lanka. In fact, I do sympathise with them. In the old days, it was enough to cross sea water (Palk Straits) to lose caste and caste was reinstated on entering Tamil Nadu, which place was avoided to avoid being re-branded.
However, why are the present day Tamil tea pluckers families called “Indian Tamils” ? – to get a connection to Tamil Nadu & India ? They are all now Sri Lanka Tamils if they have been given citizenship and voting rights. It is high time this community became ‘Sri Lankan’ and joined mainstream life here.
Also, does India wag successive GoSLs through this community ? After all, Tea is a big foreign exchange earner and therefore an important crop. Upcountry tea areas are also a safe landing point for Tamil illegal migrants, which activity has to stop. Rev. Reyappu Joseph’s Mannar was the favored entry point for illegal migrants during ltte rule of those areas.
It appears that Sri Lanka has a number of people who are not loyal to the country. There are a number of people in this country who have personal agendas inimical to the country. Sinhala/Buddhists who number the most, are ignorant and confused, and events are thrust upon them to confuse them further.
I read a news item some months ago that the children of this tea plucking community are dropping out of school. Why
is that ?
After some 64 yrs Independence in Sri Lanka, the Upcountry ‘Indian’ Tamil still remains insular, and is still known as an ‘Indian Tamil’ even though Sri Lanka feeds, gives jobs, shelters, protects, nurtures and educates them all. They ought to be known as Sri Lanka Upcountry Tamils, and not Indian Tamils.
An Oath of Allegiance is due to Lanka from all citizens here.

Some relevant points for Peace in Lanka :
(a) Labour has to be Modernised & Mechanised wherever possible, not only in Tea estates. A monthly wage with EPF benefits also provided, wherever possible (even for domestic workers). I would welcome write ups on how Labor Needs here could be effectively met here. Do not import Labor into Sri Lanka from troubled areas even on a visa basis – we are inviting/importing more trouble here.
(b) If Sri Lanka is interested in a lasting and true Peace, GoSL together with the Maha Sanga should establish Meditation for Peace & Prosperity Centres throughout the island. Such Meditation Centres should be permanent establishments and can be large or small, depending on the needs and should have able and dedicated teachers of Meditation.
