What President Rajapakse and his Government must do as a priority

The nation will not deny the role played by Mahinda Rajapakse as President of Sri Lanka in flaying the odds to adamantly bring to a finale the headache of terrorism built upon a false notion of self-determination. It is now time to put to rest these false notions. The GOSL cannot delay addressing them. It is because the GOSL has not articulated clearly to the Sri Lankan and to the rest of the world that the country is subject to diplomatic and political warfare. As a nation we should not have to be humiliated internationally.
There are some hometruths that the populace of Sri Lanka needs to be told even bluntly.
1. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Declare Sri Lanka is a Buddhist nation: Like it or not this fact needs to be conveyed and once articulated and legally upheld, people will begin to respect that. If left delayed or ignored the Tamils will continue to demand a mythical homeland and soon the Muslims are likely to seek autonomy too. There is no argument that the Sinhalese as an ethnic race has a clear majority (consistent through history) and that Buddhism remains the clear majority as well. Two major reasons to contribute to the argument that Buddhists have every right to call Sri Lanka a Buddhist nation. I have no qualms about Sri Lanka being declared a Buddhist nation as minority religions have freedom to practice their faiths. Minority religious leaders are not appointed to destabilize the nation and people of minority faiths should not join this uncouth agenda. Religions are meant for personal salvation. I can understand and empathize with the unrest of Buddhists because they have seen that the political establishments are denying Buddhism the rightful place because the Buddhists do not have the financial ability or the sophisticated refinery that members of the other minority faiths have to lure politicians to their side. That is not how minorities should function and it is a shame that politicians are gullible to monetary entrappingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s. By declaring Sri Lanka as a Buddhist nation, the Government would address a plethora of issues and inadvertently silence a lot of people ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the Buddhists will finally be happy and the rest of us will know that our faiths will be given its due place and that is what should matter ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” not what the religious leaders of the other faiths think. Moreover it must be clearly conveyed that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s military can be placed wherever the Sri Lankan Government sees fit ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” no political party or foreign government can object. Why is the Government not enforcing the 6th amendment/Article 157a to silence every individual/ political party /organization from attempting to separate Sri Lanka?
2. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Demand evidence of Tamil Homeland: The Tamil politicians must be asked to produce historical evidence to prove a Tamil Homeland existed if not they should keep their silence without leading people astray ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” this would nullify all myths completely and put an end to the self-determination drive. It is becoming a nuisance to have had 30 years of terrorist self-determination and now be subject to political self-determination to satisfy other peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s agenda. Can some country please give Tamil people a nation to call their own if India is unwilling to give Tamil Nadu. I do not want my grandchildren to also suffer through these fictitious self-determination chants.
3. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Message to minorities especially their leaders: minorities are the faiths of Christianity/Catholicism, Hinduism, Islam etcƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦. ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” what matters is to be able to go to Church, Kovil or mosque and offer prayers, involve ourselves in festivities associated with our religions, celebrate annual events etc. I cannot think of one example that we have been denied this. Therefore, it is wrong for us to falsely accuse Buddhists of being ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-militantƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and use so many foul languages to denigrate them as I see happening on a daily basis in both print and electronic media. Why are authorities asleep ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” is it fair to flog the Buddhists but becomes a crime when the Buddhists retort back? Let us be fair in judging situations. As adults we need to be far more mature than we are. Politicians of these minority faiths are doing tremendous harm both to the nation and to us and it is time we tell our leaders to stop this nonsense and allow us to get on with our lives without filling our minds with hate against other religions just because it serves their best interest ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” most of these people are being paid to say and act as they do anyway and I personally have no respect for them.
4. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Deal with unsavory politicians / thugs and law and order : our problems all stem from the behaviors of our supposed to be elected representatives. The people need to seriously be taught how and who to vote. However, wastage, corruption, nepotism reliance on thugs and goon squads have not helped to keep law and order. People are happy in a stable country ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” were the people who should be punished get punished and the people who shouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t end up behind bars. Though there are some inconsistencies ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” those that are violent campaigners against the GOSL have nothing happen to them given the argument of lack of lawlessness but some unheard of persons get missing and then comes the human rights championsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦there is something amiss here. However, we need to have faith in the legal system and we need to trust that the law enforcements function without favor ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” this is an area that needs a lot of attention.
5. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Policy of non-alignment : the readings on the wall declare that the GOSL has given to India virtually the entire nation and the people are not happy. The readings on the wall also declare that GOSL is also ready to give more. Has ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-givingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ or ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-giving inƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ given us friends? Looking back it is the housewife Mrs. B that won friends. She maintained cordial relations with India, she won the friendship with Pakistan and it is that gesture that continues to be quoted by Pakistan, in her time Chinas gifts to Sri Lanka were free unlike nowƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.today nothing is given free and the ugly practice of taking things from nations by compromising our nation must stop. There is ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ no free lunch ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” has the issue with Muslim mosques arisen because these loans come with the clause that mosques must be built and loans are actually steered towards only Muslims? So if India gives loans also only meant for Tamils what about the rest of the country? The GOSL needs to restructure their policies, strategies and get their act together.
6. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Your advisors are misleading you: It is blatantly clear that those that provide the GOSL are purposely leading the country astray and the President must realize that he does not need a Phd in International Affairs to know what is right by the country. In matters of legal issues it is best to get the opinions of more than one and consolidate amongst a trusted few to derive the strategy to move forward. It is best not to depend on just one or two because that chemistry has not worked for Sri Lanka.
Finally, as ordinary people all that we want to do is to live in peace. The armed forces have given us that peace. The politicians should not create situations that would compromise victory given at the sacrifice of many lives. Money and power are two evils that people need to overcome with maturity. Politicians need time to reflect because it is their acts that are creating the confusions that we ordinary people are suffering from.
Please do not lead the country astray ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” this golden opportunity will not come again. Put the anomalies straight and take the country forward then only oneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s name will be etched in history. Presently that victory achieved in 2009 is getting tarnished. I believe the above solutions will help tinker the situation until such time the GOSL can come up with a proper country plan with a country mission and vision.

big ben is not actually a fool – but makes foolish observations – he must be troubling his wife still with his desires, poor old thing and in his quest of development and progress he castigates sinha+hela people and hold others on a pedestal. 30 years of war had a great impact on our development – of course if we had people like kadir (i would have liked him to be the president or prime minister of lanka if he was alive) and lalith things would have gone better on world stage – thanks to tamil tiger sakkiliyas we lost brains.

Sinhalese have already lost the North, East, hill country and the Capital by being Buddhist. Buddhism has never saved any country in the world. If we blindly follow Buddhism, there is a danger that along with Buddhism, Sinhalse also may be wiped out., along with Buddhism as haPPENED TO nALANDA bUDDHISTS. The reason is the passive and suicidal nature of Buddhism, which promotes giving up desires and seeking Nirvana. Buddhism promptes qualities that oppose law of nature which is natural selection and survival of the fittest. If we want to survive, then we need to learn to compete,and I would say in a legal, moral and a fair framework.
bUDDHISM HAS GOOD THINGS SUCH AS PRECEPTS, MEDITATION, PEACE OF MIND AND GOOD WAY TO LIVE. However many appear to ignore the good things.

I was thinking along the same line as aloy. No wonder Sinhalese are called Modayas if they want to give up desires and aim for extinction, when every one else aim to maximise achievement and aim for self preservation. I DOUBT IF iNDIAN AGENT Sunil knows any thing of Buddhism. He has constantly used abusive and indecent language. To win any debate at the UNHRC, let us go to the beginning of events and work through to the present day situation.
* If the TRUTH about the ltte is told without fear or favor, Sri Lanka will win through. The UNHRC must accept the weaknesses of Tamil Nadu Tamil caste based social structures, the reason why low caste and Dalit origin Tamil people flee Tamil Nadu and enter Sri Lanka. The caste structure is an embarrassment for India, but India too would like to see an end to caste based discrimination in TN as per the Indian Constitution. The UN has tried for a long time to ‘corner’ India on the caste issues and failed. This time, the likes of Navi Pillai have managed to ‘corner’ India, via Sri Lanka Tamil separatists wars. I think it is for that reason, India likes to see an end to Tamil complaints in Sri Lanka.
The ltte was born in the North of Lanka to fight Tamil Caste wars. Prabhakran himself was the grandson of a Tamil illegal migrant who fled TN and came into Sri Lanka. Subsequently, the ltte rode on the back of the Cold War, during JRJ times and into Premadasa era.
The British & the Dutch brought over One and Half MILLION Tamils as Indentured Labor for the Tea & Tobacco industries in Sri Lanka, and now Lanka is paying the price for their actions. A foreign friend of mine was aghast at the numbers of Tamil people brought in here as I.L. from TN ! In addition, Tamil illegal migrants too came into Lanka, especially during the times of the ltte rule. They are still here. Is Sri Lanka going to absorb these people as citizens here ? If so, that fact must be thrown wide open and the public kept informed. India is probably keeping GoSL silent on all this.
Tamils enter Sri Lanka to lose caste and gain free education, property, etc. They are NOT cheap labor as some Sri Lankans like to think. The price of Tamil labor is too high for Lanka to pay. Importing Tamil Labor from Tamil Nadu will lead to bifurcation of Lanka, cultural take over and with Lanka as an ‘appendage’ of Tamil Nadu. The Collective which held a protest campaign and demonstration in Colombo to support their demand yesterday submitted a memorandum containing a list of names of persons reported killed or gone missing due to LTTE terrorist activities.
Several thousand parents representing all parts of the country including the North and East participated in the demonstration.
The participants asked what the likes of Sridharan, Sambandan, Mawai, Premachandran and Sumandiran were doing when the LTTE engaged in carnage and went on a spree aiming claymore mines massacring Bhikkhus at Aranthalawa, targeting the hallowed Sri Dalada Maligawa and recruiting child soldiers. Is not it Tamil Eelam that they are now demanding, they asked.
Speaking to the media the Convenor of the Collective said at a time the government has now steered the country successfully towards development attempts are made through UNHRC to pressurize the country and impose strictures and embargoes on it by certain Western powers and NGOs. They were puzzled as to why these forces which were trying to white wash the LTTE today kept mum when the LTTE committed barbaric acts of terrorism in this country.
These forces had failed to realize the steps taken by the government to save Tamil civilians during the last stages of the war”.

To win any debate at the UNHRC, let us go to the beginning of events and work through to the present day situation.
* If the TRUTH about the ltte is told without fear or favor, Sri Lanka will win through. The UNHRC must accept the weaknesses of Tamil Nadu Tamil caste based social structures, the reason why low caste and Dalit origin Tamil people flee Tamil Nadu and enter Sri Lanka. The caste structure is an embarrassment for India, but India too would like to see an end to caste based discrimination in TN as per the Indian Constitution. The UN has tried for a long time to ‘corner’ India on the caste issues and failed. This time, the likes of Navi Pillai have managed to ‘corner’ India, via Sri Lanka Tamil separatists wars. I think it is for that reason, India likes to see an end to Tamil complaints in Sri Lanka.
The ltte was born in the North of Lanka to fight Tamil Caste wars. Prabhakran himself was the grandson of a Tamil illegal migrant who fled TN and came into Sri Lanka. Subsequently, the ltte rode on the back of the Cold War, during JRJ times and into Premadasa era.
The British & the Dutch brought over One and Half MILLION Tamils as Indentured Labor for the Tea & Tobacco industries in Sri Lanka, and now Lanka is paying the price for their actions. A foreign friend of mine was aghast at the numbers of Tamil people brought in here as I.L. from TN ! In addition, Tamil illegal migrants too came into Lanka, especially during the times of the ltte rule. They are still here. Is Sri Lanka going to absorb these people as citizens here ? If so, that fact must be thrown wide open and the public kept informed. India is probably keeping GoSL silent on all this.
Tamils enter Sri Lanka to lose caste and gain free education, property, etc. They are NOT cheap labor as some Sri Lankans like to think. The price of Tamil labor is too high for Lanka to pay. Importing Tamil Labor from Tamil Nadu will lead to bifurcation of Lanka, cultural take over and with Lanka as an ‘appendage’ of Tamil Nadu. I beg to disagree.
* THe WHOLE WORLD knows about the LTTE!
USA, India, EU, etc. BANNED the LTTE BEFORE SL. SO they KNOW.
Knowingly they support it because that’s how they rule the world – divide and rule.
* Navi Nazi Pillai is a Tamil and she wants to KEEP Hindu caste system. India wants to keep Tamil caste system. Others also want to keep it so that they can have slave labor (like tea).
* Buddhism MUST be state religion. MOST countries have a state religion directly OR indirectly.
* They don’t care about LTTE victims. There is NO money in it.

As I told another LOSER, SL was a prosperous country when Buddhism was the ONLY state religion and Sinhala was the ONLY national language. He agreed to disagree UNABLE to refute this FACT.

Some more points to consider. History and near History are lessons so that we will not repeat past mistakes :
* The 1983 Riots were manipulated, i.e. not natural. There is ample evidence to show that it was prepared for and not spontaneous. It happened during the Cold War years when JRJ was President and very pro-west. The Riots were filmed and shown in the west, enabling Tamils to ‘escape’ as refugees to the west. Three Tamil ambassadors in the west at that time (Luxmi Naganathan, Moorthy & Balachandran in Bonn (Germany), London & Paris, respectively), complied with the showing of these films. Tamils participated in these Riots against other Tamils. Cyril Mathew, then Minister for Industries, was considered the main participant from the then subjugated govt. side with J.N.Dixit, the Indian Envoy, the then conductor of ‘torrid political affairs’ for India. It were mostly these groups of Tamil refugees who went west who formed/forms, (now their children), the core of anti-Sri Lanka lobbies and also found ways to fund the ltte. Later the ltte members became adept at getting money by fraud.
During these times, the JVP which formed the bulk of the Sinhala rural folk, turned to the accepted -ism of the region, forms of communism. We guess that is why the Tamil Eelam cause headed by the ltte was allowed to ride the waves of the Cold War, in the opposite direction to the JVP ?
Remaining Non-aligned is very important to Sri Lanka.
The Tamils have a certain mind set re the Caste Structures of Tamil Nadu. They want to get away from Caste Structures, and get far away from Tamil Nadu preferably to an affluent country in the west. Once in the west, they get sort of lonely and want connections back ‘home’ (Sri Lanka & India), and also become important to their host countries. They also want the trappings of success and money. They then plot & plan for Tamil only Eelam from the host countries, thus also attempting to unify Tamils everywhere. Plenty of lies, cheat & deceit are thrown out as via Ch-4, to build up a case for Eelam. Foreign politicians & the business sector see all this as big time opportunities to expand. Free Education, Health Care and other free items offered in Sri Lanka are quite forgotten. The lack of gratitude from most of the Tamil folk is painful to witness …
Lies, cheat & deceit are big mistakes. For Tamil people, it is counter productive to their own Hearts that know the truth of matters and for that reason, formation of “Eelam” fails. Eelam is a feeling, like Nirvana, and it ought to be sought through Self Realisation in the Tamil peoples’ Hearts. Eelam will not be found in the material world. Money can buy some comforts and that is all that Money can do. Ill gotten gains will not buy self respect or high, good feelings within oneself. Lives can be frittered away chasing Money only as the end goal.
* Sinhela people get caught up in various world events, Cold Wars, East/West politics, etc., as Sri Lanka is a sort of gateway to the East in the Indian Ocean. Lanka is a country of ports and Lanka was Colonised for that reason as well as for its tropical produce and cheap labor. The proximity of Tamil Nadu (and India) with its Caste/poverty issues also spells difficulties.
Sinhela people should use the Law of the Land and make new Laws to protect us all, as done in Singapore. And know thy Law ! Singapore is a successful and a mostly Buddhist country, although an industrialised country and not a agri based one as Lanka. Lanka has to come to terms with Labor here, and use local people rather than import Labor from nearby countries. Labor, if well treated and taken care of, modernised & mechanised methods of work to suit modern times, will carry the day. Leaders of the country have to set the right tone for ‘thathwe’ (status) through self respect & respect for life, for others to follow.
Religion, mostly Buddhism in the case of Lanka, ought to be used for Wisdom to formulate the Law of the Land and used also for each of us to guide ourselves. There is a sort of ‘radar’ in us all which can guide us, which can be tapped through Meditation & Contemplation. But religion & the State should be kept apart. There is a possibility that religion can be blamed/used for various issues that we may have to face in the future, and for that reason religion & State should be kept apart. Common sense ought to prevail in all matters of State.
I don’t mean to sound ‘preachy’, but real concern that Sri Lanka is not balkanised and the well being of people jeopardized, prompts me to write the above. I am aware that everything is easier said than done. Comments on the above welcome.

President Rajapaksha should invite TNA to join the Government and offer all the ministerial posts he has given to SLMC and then SLMC can leave. This will give them more time to do a bit of family planning for their falk. After all Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan governments are tired and bankrupt giving their ‘output’ free education and free medication all this time. Don’t forget they need jobs, housing etc. etc afterwards. MR should send a copy of the invitation letter to Mr Manmohan Singh so the Tamils can’t complain they have been left out!

Hi Ben,
What you suggest is alright and will promote good governance. I myself stated that Common Sense ought to prevail in governance. However, I think you will find it difficult to make people ‘dump unproven myths’ bit. They in turn will say to you that you have to prove that their ‘myths’ are wrong.
There is myth attached to every religion, and Buddhism has the least of it. Myth is always supernormal and its purpose is to shock & awe people to follow a religion, isn’t it ? Also, it helps people to remove fear of illness, misfortune and death.
Actually, Meditation & Contemplation helps anyone to deal with all these negative things in life, if a person is fortunate enough and courageous enough to do practice these aspects.

Also, in Society co-operatiion is better than competition, as time and energy will not be wasted in wars, and playing wasteful and ugly games to eliminate competition. In the production of goods & services, Service to Mankind ought to be the key approach. However, I only dream of high ethics, it seems.
Other indices have to be found, other than GDP, to measure well being of a Nation.
The Monetary Systems in the world are flawed, and huge unequal distributions of wealth causes problems in Society. The use of Money for the upliftment of Society is the ideal approach. Also note that the printing of money is no longer tied to the Gold Standard.
Birth Control & Family Planning a must if a Nation is to succeed for all its people, irrespective of ancient commands via religion.
