Dayan Jayatillake: A Rebel without a Worthy Cause

Dayan has had a very eventful political life. One common theme running through his life is that he has been jumping from one camp to another, leaving his allies in misery. They are the depictions of various stages of Indian involvement in the island nation. His historical allegiances made what he is today.
His adventures started with his formation of the Sinhala Leftist Students’ Social Study Circle in mid 1970s. These misled Lefties supported the cause of Tamil Elam, Tamil nationhood and Tamil right of self-determination ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the three principles LTTE harped on during all ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”peaceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ talks. They merged with the Tamil terrorist outfit EPRLF (ElamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s PeopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Revolutionary Liberation Front). It is an Indian sponsored Tamil terrorist organization with its own political party which is now aligned with TNA. Ultra racist TNA MP Suresh Premachandran was a very close associate of Dayan from this time.
Dayan dumped the Study Circle for Vikalpa Kandayama in 1982. It was aligned to Indian Naxalite movement or rather a movement that spied on the Indian Naxals on behalf of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). During his activity a number of Naxals who were part of his circle were hunted down in both India and Sri Lanka. In 1986 his Vikalpa Kandayama was outlawed for being a front organization of the Indian RAW. In early 1987 Dayan escaped to Tamil Nadu. By then he has joined Vijaya KumaratungaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Sri Lanka Mahajana Party. During his stay in Tamil Nadu for over half a year he developed close relations with Tamil Elamist groups. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
After the Indo-Lanka Peace Accord, the Jayawardena regime was forced to welcome and pardon RAW activists. Dayan was pardoned and he returned to the island. He returned the favour by joining with the ambitious then Prime Minister Premadasa. He left Sri Lanka Mahajana Party but not without betraying Vijaya Kumaratunga which led to his killing in February 1988. SLMC stalwarts blamed Dayan for playing a part in the assassination. Dayan moved on with the blessings of the then government particularly the prime minister. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
In 1988 EPRLF leader Varatharaja Perumal was appointed the Chief Minister of the merged North-Eastern Provincial Council by recommendation of JN Dixit. Dayan was appointed a minister of the North-Eastern Provincial Council under Varatharaja Perumal.
In 1989 he left the Council and was appointed a special advisor to President Premadasa. His vicious anti-Sinhala tendencies became once again apparent in his role in war crimes committed by the Premadasa regime against unarmed civilians. However, he soon turned on President Premadasa too as the rift between Sri Lanka and India expanded.
Once again Dayan moved on to be part of any and all governments that came to power.
In 2009 although Sri Lanka defeated separatism in the form of the LTTE, Dayan trapped Sri Lanka into the divisive 13A at the UNHRC. His malicious act was immediately realized by the government which sacked him from the top post and gave him a punishment transfer to Vietnam which he refused. But just a few months later he accepted a lucrative posting to Paris.
Now his single minded mission is to keep 13A alive and achieve the Indian mission of disintegration of Sri Lanka. He has a loyal group of supporters mostly from his father Mervyn de SilvaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Lanka Guardian associates. Everyone who associated with him perished untimely either politically or physically. But he has moved on from one prey to another. His priced prey will be Sri Lanka as we know it.

Two days ago there was a very intersting debate between Dr. Dayan Jayatilake and Mr. Mahindapla in Daily News regarding 13th ammendment and every citizen of Sri Lanka must read those two articles and the Daily News Editorial follwoing that debate. It clearly shows how Dayan betrayed Sri Lanka in the first UN session in Geneva. It also shows how skillful Mr. Mahindhapala compared to Dayan. Once again it proved the famous notion, An eagle can fly as low as a chicken, but a chicken cannnot fly as high as an Eagle!

All these jumpings from tree to tree and betrayals can only be understood with the notion that he fits into the Christian Church agenda for Sri Lanka. He and Jehan Perera are blood brothers in their quest for the dismemberment of Sri Lanka along side the Christian Church / Catholic Church. Look no further this is the long and short of this sad story. In Sri Lanka nothing political happens without the Christian Church having an involvement in it. They are the unseen hand that runs with the hares and hunts with the hounds. Palu Gedera Walang Bindinne Me Ayayi! If this dynamic is understood the rest is clear as daylight!

Dayan may have valid points in his expressions.But it is of no use because he is a “kite without a string”.Only god knows where it will land to rest!

In order to get an ambassadorial position from the UPFA government, Dayan wrote a letter to a newspaper in 2006 criticizing Ranil Wickemasinghe’s speech made in India against the government of President Mahindha Rajapakse. It is now understood that he had praised the present government and criticized RW at that time only to obtain a prestigious ambassadorial position. What an opportunist!

According to thiis item and the related comments DJ should be deemed Public Enemy No1. So Is he?
Some comments are sadly biased particularly the ones touching on Christianity and the notion that he is out to destroy Sri Lanka in favour of India which is the biggest load of tosh from any perspective.It would be good to see some of the grave accusations against him linked to tangible fact and evidence not a perambulatory run of avid imaginations or puny gleanings from a little knowledge which sometimes can be a dangerous thing.If He was such a threat to the country and a villain, how is it he is still being tolerated by Presidential sanction and aren’t some of these accusations simply wickedly concocted lies which spread like wildfire when thrown into the gallery of the gullible who swallow everything his critics spread as slander to discredit him. It is also disgusting to see his dead parents dragged into the fray. Beleive me they were good hard working law abiding citizens from excellent stock and Pl dont praise HLDPM to the skies as though he was a real patriotic son of Lanka! check out his credentials also, there are transparencies which disentitle him to the honour. And why is he domiculed in Australia and why did he leave Lake House does anyone know?. He is a clever manipulator of fact vs fiction with a penchant for literary acumen based on a good command of the Queen’s English and if you open your eyes wide enough you will realise that neither of these vile claims against DJ will hold water enough to sink him as in the end come what may he will go down in history as one of Sri Lanka’s proudest sons albeit grossly misunderstood in a valiant effort to maintain the status quo of his motherland while synonymously confronting many of her adversaries where 13A alone is not sufficient to incarcerate him like you blinkered lot have done.This is a sorry state of affairs !
