WHAT IS THE RATIONAL BEHIND THIS THRUST TO DISMEMBER SYRIA, BY THE SUNNI JILHADIST & THE WESTERN NEXUS!

Mahinda Weerasinghe

It is intriguing to conjecture what factors lay behind this urgency for the disembodiment of Syria?

We find in this conflict, that there are wheels within wheels. And to isolate the motivating factors will be constructive for tolerant Buddhist nations such as Lanka in order to figure out; what unmitigated power, religious fanaticism and hate worked in concert to take a shot at annihilation of a comparatively innocent nation such as Syria. ƒ”š‚ For indeed we have just escaped from such a debacle ourselves but not Libya.

So let us to begin with isolation of the players behind this ƒ¢¢”š¬’bomb Syria’ mind set, and then go on to establish the motivating factors behind each actor!

USA

So what would Obama gain by the obliteration of Syria?

Now the President of US is the front man for the said nexus, and he should justify to the world at large that the world needs a regime change in Damascus?ƒ”š‚  Is it simply due to the unproven poison bomb attack? If so the certified atom bomb attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima should have warranted USA’s elimination by the year 1945, forthwith!

Yet in reality another war in the Middle East is the last thing US needs right now. In fact a war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya has drained most of its vitality. Indeed all of such acts aided the decline of USA as a World power! Yet Obama haven’t got the balls to confront the multi headed War Hydra which is pushing him on and on. Why?

Because USA power in the world is waning the last years and it need to flex its muscle now. And where else can it throw its weight around other than at puny minnow nations such as Syria and Sri Lanka. USA is at the same time a running dog for Saudi Arabia whose oil they need as do the rest of the western nations. They vend their weapons to Saudis and keep them serviced, and also have a standing army to protect the royalty from its enemies! As the Saudi Arab does not have qualified man power to look after such sophisticated weapons systems’ Saudis will be always dependent on USA and beholden to them. As a famous author subsequent ƒ”š‚ 9/11 attack quipped, ƒ¢¢”š¬’these Islamic terrorist can fly such planes as incendiary bombs’ but can they ever build one of such sophisticated flyingƒ”š‚  machinesƒ¢¢”š¬‚..

Then there are the earlier colonial powers Britain and France where every major game plan for USA is charted. These two are the deadly, power mad, scheming and avaricious in this nexus.ƒ”š‚  They pose as if they are acting democratically, which is a pretence! They project to the world their hands are clean and being enlightened such as dismantling slavery by mid 1800dreds, which is a huge joke.

Then there is Israel, and they bloody well know what repercussions follow a strike on Syria would entail. With an exception of Anwar Sadat, who was bumped off by the Muslim Brotherhood, no Arab Muslim did anything for them. So just as Muslim nation would not allow any other sate exist within their midst peacefully, Jews in turn would encourage any destabilisation of a Muslim nation. I feel their acting with self interest and motivated by survival.

Tel Aviv’s Yedioth Ahronothƒ”š‚ newspaper, insists that, ƒ”š‚ Washingtonƒ”š‚  attack Syria’s chemical weapons sites ƒ¢¢”š¬- regardless of possible, ƒ¢¢”š¬…”collateral damageƒ¢¢”š¬‚, not to mention the possibility of al-Qaeda-linked jihadist outfits taking control of some of the weapons. Naturallyƒ”š‚ Israel’s agenda calls for bleeding of Islamic Arab nations.

Then there is the Military Industrial complex. Naturally a war would offer opportunity, power and economic progress, all positive for the well being of the west? ƒ”š‚ This doctrine is as a grave misjudgement and full of holes!

Sunni Saudi Arabia is the main player in this connection and the west is soaking up its oil, and eating up its petro dollars!

Now House of Saud is the real mover of this ƒ¢¢”š¬’deconstructing Syria’ plot. Why should they do such a thing to another brotherly Islamic nation? For Wahhabi Sunnis of Saudi Arabia, also Qatar, another Sunni state, Alawhites are not bone fide Muslims! They are no better than the idol worshipping infidel Buddhist and sure to end up in hell.

Ditto Sunni Turkey and all these Islamic Sunni nations are financing ƒ¢¢”š¬’Sunni jihadists’. Sad about turkey but the father of Turkey, Ataturk would have kept his country away from Arab sectarian violence.

So what is ƒ¢¢”š¬’Alawite’ if not an Islamic sect?

Indeed jihadist are promising that after the ƒ¢¢”š¬’Ghouta’ attack, they will kill any Alawite in sight.

Most people including the Muslims in Lanka do not know what is Alawite or Druze for that matter.

In fact, Syria’s Alawites, Druze are secretive and persecuted sects.

— Sunnis Muslims make up 74 percent of Syria’s 22 million populations, Alawites 12 percent, Christians 10 percent and Druze 3 percent. Ismailis, Yezidis and a few Jews make up the rest.

So we can assume at least 25% is backing Assad!

And here lies secret of this sectarian conflict, as most of the protesters trying to topple the president are perceptibly Sunnis.

— This year’s bloody struggle between Assad forces and pro-democracy protesters splitsƒ”š‚ Syriaƒ”š‚ along a minority-majority gulf, made it more vicious by the fact, that many Sunnis call Alawites heretics.

– The Alawite religion is often called “an offshoot of Shi’ism,” Islam’s largest minority sect, but that is something like referring to Christianity as “an offshoot of Judaism.”

— Alawites broke away from Shi’ism more than 1,000 years ago and retain some links to it, including the veneration of Ali, the cousin and son-in law of the Prophet Mohammad. Alawi literally means “those who adhere to the teachings of Ali.”

— But several beliefs differ sharply from traditional Islam. Named after Ali, Alawites believe he was divine, one of many manifestations of God in a line with Adam, Jesus, Mohammad, Socrates, Plato and some pre-Islamic sages from ancient Persia.

— To orthodox Muslims, this assorted synthesis of Christian, Gnostic, Neoplatonic and Zoroastrian thought, violates Islam’s key tenet, which means “there is no God but God” whatever that means!

–On the other hand, Alawhites interpret the Pillars of Islam (the five duties required of every Muslim) as symbolic, rather than duties. They celebrate a group of holidays, some Islamic, some Christian, and many Alawite practices are secret and kept hidden by their seniors. They consider themselves to be moderate Shi’ites.

— The outlawed Muslim Brotherhood calls Alawites infidels, but then anyone who does not accept Sunni rigid interpretations need their heads chopped off as infidels.

— Isolated in the mountains near Syria’s Mediterranean coast, Alawites taught that the Koran was to be read ƒ¢¢”š¬’allegorically’ if read at all, and preferred to pray at home rather than in mosques in a ƒ¢¢”š¬’bunch’ where they are brain washed.

— They were also highly secretive, initiating only a minority of believers into their core dogma, including reincarnation and a divine Trinity, and into rituals including a rite of drinking consecrated wineƒ”š‚ similar to a Christian Mass.

— Like the Druze, Alawites adopted the ancient practice of taqiyya, or hidden, obviously this has been a necessity in order to survive.

The biggest diversion from mainstream Islam is the belief in a trinity of figures: the Prophet Muhammad, one of his companions Salman Al Farsi, and Ali ibn Abi Talib (Muhammad’s cousin). Ali is seen as the essence of god, Muhammad as the veil or outward appearance of Ali, and Farsi as the portal to the deity, said Joshua Landis, an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma and author of the influentialƒ”š‚ Syria Comment blog.

Other departures from mainstream Muslim beliefs, such as; the notion of reincarnation this Sunni reaction.ƒ”š‚  This heretical belief ƒ”š‚ of reincarnation is the thing which set Alawhites and Druze apart – although oddly enough, women do not have ƒ¢¢”š¬’souls’ and hence are not reincarnated. Because of this, none of the secrets of Alawi doctrines are relayed to women. Every person reincarnates several times, and faithful Alawhites believe they must undergo transformation seven times before they can return to take their place among the stars, where Ali is the prince. If not faithful enough, they are can be reborn as Christians, where they must remain until atonement is complete. Infidels, unfortunately, are reborn as animals. Soul and the reincarnation are borrowed from the Hindus and probably pre Islamic. But the Hoch poach is hard to digest and confused and illogical. But women have more rights with these two sects as it does with the earlier ƒ¢¢”š¬’assassins’ now called Ismailia’s.

As Bashar Al Assad’s grip on power weakens, fears are mounting over the fate of the Alawite community, the Assad family’s heterodox Shiite sect. Who are the Alawhites? Why are so many of them fighting for the regime? How they fare in the next phase of the conflict will likely shape Syria’s future.

.It may be that Hafez al Assad’s fusing of faith, power, and politics laid the seeds for what has now become a brutal sectarian conflict. For some, identification with the Assad regime substituted religious knowledge, Landis said. ƒ¢¢”š¬…”In a sense, Assad became their god.ƒ¢¢”š¬‚

That is the backdrop for incidents caught on video, purportedly showing Alawite soldiers as they force their captives to declare,ƒ”š‚ ƒ¢¢”š¬‚there is no god but Bashar.ƒ¢¢”š¬‚ƒ”š‚ That substitutes ƒ¢¢”š¬…”Basharƒ¢¢”š¬‚ for ƒ¢¢”š¬…”Allahƒ¢¢”š¬‚ in the sacred phrase repeated by Muslims multiple times each day. The apparent thinking among those Alawite soldiers: it’s only fair to insult the ƒ¢¢”š¬’God’ of Sunnis, when Syrians are publicly cursing the souls of Hafez and Bashar, tearing up their posters and destroying statues around the country.

Things became hotter with the Arab spring. Sunni nexus financing terror under the guise freedom and the west have to support their paymasters!

Indeed while Obama and David Cameron was getting ready for their surgical Strike Putin reacted and effectively!

Aƒ”š‚ grimƒ”š‚ ƒ¢¢”š¬…”urgent action memorandumƒ¢¢”š¬‚ issued today from the office of President Putinƒ”š‚ to theƒ”š‚ Armed Forces of the Russian Federationƒ”š‚ is ordering a ƒ¢¢”š¬…”massive military strikeƒ¢¢”š¬‚ against Saudi Arabia in the event that the West attacks Syria.

According to Kremlin sources familiar with this extraordinary ƒ¢¢”š¬…”war order,ƒ¢¢”š¬‚ Putin became ƒ¢¢”š¬…”enragedƒ¢¢”š¬‚ after his early August meeting withƒ”š‚ Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultanƒ”š‚ who warned thatƒ”š‚ if Russia did not accept the defeat of Syria, Saudi Arabia would unleash Chechen terrorists under their control to cause mass death and chaosƒ”š‚ during theƒ”š‚ Olympics scheduled to be held 7-23 February 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Putin’s threat worked like magic; for everybody suddenly became democratic like, requested their respective Parliaments to debate and vote, and the result is:

It is an embarrassing defeat for Prime Minister David Cameron, who had recalled parliament to seek consent for missile strikes.
He had been expected the vote to pass, allowing him to stand shoulder to shoulder with Barack Obama.

Cameron conceded the vote reflected the views of the British people and would act accordingly.

President Obama’s decision to seek Congress’s approval for military strikes on Syria has drawn criticism from anti-war Democrats and Tea Party Republicans who oppose any interventional vote. He say he accepted this decision for the time been.
Israel has started releasing army reservists and lowered its state of alert following President Barack Obama’s decision to postpone military action against Syria.

In such a manner David and Obama crept out, or was that the plan all along as Saudi Arabia would be footing the bill!

Well the exception is France, which is following its own agenda, which is the old colonial power of Syria. Perhaps they would wish to press out a few more dollars from Saudis before bowing out.

Now from hind side I feel this has been a game from the start, and quite a clever game at that. I must confess I did not grasp what was the real game plan until the foxes became democratic!

So finally Arab League foreign ministers on (Sept. 1) urged the United Nations and the international community to take “deterrent” action against the Syrian regime over reported chemical attacks near Damascus. But the rest of the world slept on being in sympathy with Syria

This would say that; it left the Sunni Arabs holding Bucket and got humiliated in the process.

What is more it exposed the true face of Saudi Arabia and its terror hordes.

I feel Syria has come back from the brink and all the foreign Sunni Jihadist in Syria will have to go home until the next time!

I do not think this is the end of the story as there is the blow back effect from the returning holy worriers who did not receive their pound of meat that was promised.

The anticipated repercussions would be another story and I would give it to you when it unfolds!

“Naturally Israel’s agenda calls for bleeding of Islamic Arab nations.”

A very clever strategy for survival. Bleeding SL’s enemies to extinction is what SL must be doing too. But what happens is the opposite.

Saudi prince and next king Bandar Bin Sultan is the man behind all this violence.

US Senate has APPROVED a strike on Syria. Will Russia stand by Syria or give up like in Serbia, Libya, Palestine, Afghanistan, etc., etc.?

IF Saudi oil fields are smashed, Russian oil will earn half a trillion more and tame USA, EU and Japan.

  2. Ananda-USA Says:

The Rationale is Crystal Clear: At the URGING of Israel, the US is moving to destroy one-by-one the Shia Muslim block of countries (Iran, Syria, Lebanon’s Hezbollah) that form the SUPPORT BASE for Iran which is allegedly developing nuclear weapons … on whatever fake pretext the US can conjure up.

It has NOTHING TO DO WITH Chemical Attacks by Syria; it is only a pretext for taking Syria apart on the eve of total defeat by the Sunni rebel forces by the combined efforts of Syria, and Hezbollah and Iranian volunteers. In fact, the SOURCE of these Chemical weapons, and WHO deployed them, has NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED. The Govt of Syria is getting FRAMED for something it did not do; it could very well be a US dirty trick.

Barak Obama has promised to eliminate Iran’s nuclear program before he leaves office, three years from now … and time is getting short for him to deliver on that promise to Israel. The dismantling of Syria and cutting off access through Syria to Lebanon’s Hezbollah to isolate Iran, is the first step. Why is Israel’s needs so important to the US. If you have to ask that, then you know NOTHING of the stranglehold the Jewish Lobby has on the US Government, Economy, News Media and Civil Organizations.

Iraq’s majority Shia Govt is helping its fellow Shia in Iran and Syria permitting overflights of transport planes from Iran to Syria over Iraqi territory. Beyond that, they can do nothing at this point, beset by Sunni terrorists of their own blasting over 3,000 people to death in the last month alone. In this way, by ssetting its people to make war on each other, Iraq is permanently neutralized. It is Syria’s turn to be subjected to that American Solution now.

In my view, Iran has EVERY RIGHT as a sovereign nation to develop nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel cycle facilities, and …. as a country threatened daily with invasion and attack by its enemies… nuclear weapons for self-defence.

Just as other nuclear powers have successfully lived under the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) doctrine since Hiroshima and Nagasaki for about 65 years, Iran as a nuclear power can also be accommodated by relying on its self-interest in survival.

The Hypocrisy of the situation arises in that every one of Iran’s enemies, including its foremost enemy Israel (with the 5th largest nuclear weapons stockpile), are nuclear powers, enjoying the immunity from attack as a result of their nuclear arsenals, but assuming complete liberty to threaten and destroy other countries with their conventional weapons. That is HYPOCRISY!

If they want to ensure non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, they should get together and destroy their own nuclear weapons stockpiles and weapons production facilities FIRST, and THEN enforce a non-proliferation regime on the world as a whole. Until then, they are behaving as the NEOCOLONIALIST HYPOCRITES, and are deluding themselves if they think they are convincing ANY others!

  3. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

I disagree with the premise that President Obama wants to obliterate Syria. To quote from the article:”So what would Obama gain by the obliteration of Syria?”. The answer is more insidious than that. President Obama is aware that the Syrian protesters are peppered with the Al-Qaeda. this is a validated fact. The US has some of the most powerful spy agencies such as the CIA, The Pentagon, The department of Homeland Security and above all the National Security Agency out of which PRISM was outed by Mr. Snowden.

I listed the power of the US intelligence service to point to the fact that President Obama is well aware of the presence of the Al-Qaeda among the protestors. President Obama is targeting the Assad government and not the entire nation of Syria. If Damascus falls it will not be taken over by the average protester but by the Al-Qaeda and President Obama knows this. If the Al-Qaeda takes control of Damascus this terrorist network will control Syria which shares a border with Israel.

Since he was elected the President has displayed a proclivity of sympathy and empathy towards Islam. He is the first President in US history to invite the US chapter of the Muslim brotherhood to the White House, not once, but many times. He has invited a litany of extremist Islamic leaders to the White house giving them the credibility by that act.

President Obama is also the first President to informally break ties with Israel and have a “soft hand” towards the Saud family and Iran. His earlier years were spent in Indonesia where he learned to appreciate the Koran, Sharia laws and Islam in her various forms. He is the most dangerous leader the US has the unenviable position to have.

Outside of the Al-Qaeda angle President Obama knows any attack on Damascus would bring in Putin run Russia who covets that nation since under Assad Russia has access to the Mediterranean sea through a Syrian port and will go to war to keep it.

  4. Lorenzo Says:

Saudi kings and princes WORSHIP Israel. For them SHIA MUSLIMS are the enemy most dangerous THAN Israel.
In turn USA WORSHIPS Saudi kings and princes. IF Saudi pulls the plug on PETRO DOLLAR now when USA has $17 trillion debt it collapses like a tower of shittt.

USA KNOWS AQ is involved but there is nothing they can do without angering the Saudi dictators.

Saudi dictators have promised their Israeli gods they will SWITCH OFF AQ if it try to attack Israel. I doubt it will happen. But this is the US-Israel thinking at this VERY DANGEROUS moment for Israel. Iran developig nuclear weapons and has OPENLY declared it will ERASE ISRAEL FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH. VERY FEW SUNNI Muslim terrorists have attacked Israel compared to Shia Hezbullah. Saddath is no more and will be no more.

IF the world including SL to have peace and stop the cancer spread of Wahabism and Islam Saudi oil fields MUST be busted. It will be economically painful in the short run but well worth it in the long run.

It will collapse the PETRO DOLLAR, US-EU weaons industry and economy. Russia-China will be economic powerhouses. There will be a NEW WORLD ORDER that respects INTERNAL AFFAIRS of countries.

  5. Ananda-USA Says:

    Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha,

You are way off base in thinking Barak Obama is a Moslem in hiding who want to raise Al-Quaida to power in Syria. He is indeed less prejudiced against non-Europeans and other faiths, but he is wedded to the American people as a whole.

No, Barak Obama is really trying to please the American Jewish Lobby; he has no other option but to do so. His Presidency and the survival of the Democratic Party in the next elections depends upon it.

Furthermore, you are wrong in your assessment that Russia will go to war against the US to defend Syria. No it is not strong enough militarily, and it will not. Instead, Russia will aggressively support the enemies of the US in proxy wars all over the world. That is how nuclear capable superpowers fight each other under the MAD doctrine that prevents all out war between nuclear powers.

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

USA and west have undertaken to protect Israel – that is the bottom line. Israel is the country of Jesus, the Christian Centre country – that is the reason for the Christian west to seek protection of Israel. Jerusalem is important to all Christians. There is now the theory that Jesus Christ did not die on the Cross, but was taken to Kashmir where he lived as St Issa, and passed away there (see govt. of India video on this). This video states that there is a tomb in Kashmir with the marking of the injuries of the crucifixion of Jesus to prove it all as true.

Israel must exist and should be protected. Why don’t the Islamic countries all over the world make that undertaking – to PROTECT Israel ? Then there is no need for war.

As for OIL : Alternate energies must be found for all our needs. Only various types of Plastics should be produced out of fossil oil.

Otherwise, at the rate the world is headed towards fear and hate, countries will annihilate each other. Is that our purpose on Earth ? All the Teachers/Gurus spoke of God or Self Realisation, fellow love, empathy, understanding, and helping each other in strife, illness and human suffering, common factors to all.

There is an organ inside our brains called the Amygdala which is the guide to the Flight/Flight principle and it is the primitive governor of our lives. It is primitive survival mechanism, now appears to have gone out of control. Meditation helps govern and subdue this mechanism. The People of the World should all sit down and Meditate together …..

There are so many advantages. That is why they are letting hundreds of thousands getting killed. Now, all the Middle eastern and Afghanistan wars killed far more than that was killed by the Nazis.

The west have a new economic zone to do business with. Israel have some peace of mind, After the war, church move in and they have their way. Arabs will never be able to organize as a force to challenge the west. Oil will be cheaper. these new conflicts get some time to settle. during that they sell lot of arms.

European Economic zone is Bankrupt. Think about Arab economic zones. Billions will flow to the west. All oil money.

May the Peoples Republic of China, committed to Peaceful Co-Existence, go from Strength to Strength.

I applaud the Underlying Principle of Nonaggression of China: “WILL NOT attack unless attacked; CERTAIN TO attack if attacked.”

    …………………………….
China tells South Asian neighbors not to worry about its rise in Asia

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 05, Colombo: Despite the fears of a certain ‘China Threat’ theory appearing in international politics due to the country’s rise in Asia and its increasing international influence, China has not invaded any neighboring country yet, a senior Chinese military official said today.

Addressing the Sri Lankan Army-organized ‘Defence Seminar – 2013 in Colombo today, Senior Colonel Xu Hui, Director of the Teaching and Research Department at the College of Defence Studies at the National Defence University (NDU) in Beijing said China has seen the historical rise of Asia in the past three decades and the region is still far from destabilized by an ‘aggressive’ China as imagined by some people.

Speaking under the theme “A stable Sri Lanka and China’s rise in Asia; Regional Security Concerns”, Senior Colonel Xu said a certain ‘China Threat’ theory appeared in international politics still continues to go on enabling birth of many predictions about China.

“So far none of them has ever materialized and China’s political system still works, its economy is still growing and no neighboring country has been invaded by China,” he said.

Recognizing that the growth of China’s economy and its military strength have become a source of concern for some scholars, statesmen and media, the Chinese military official said China’s gradual move towards great power status and its increasing international influence have caused anxiety in some countries to the extent that ‘How to deal with a rising China’ has become the puzzle of the 21st century.

However, contrary to these expectations, China has always contributed to the regional development, stability and peace through its policies for a friendly, secure, and co-prosperous neighborhood, Senior Colonel Xu noted.

While maintaining stability within China, it has followed the five principles of peaceful co-existence and respect ‘Asian Way’ through which economic cooperation with all countrie

s is prioritized while contributing to regional peace, the Chinese military official assured.

“With our active defence policy, the Chinese way of deterrence is applied, that is ‘We are not going to attack unless we are attacked; we are certainly to counter-attack if we were attacked as Chairman Mao once said,” Senior Colonel Xu Hui said.

Speaking of historical relations with Sri Lanka, the Chinese official said the two countries have so many things in common – values of peaceful coexistence, opposing colonialism, hegemonies, foreign interference, and terrorism, etc.

He said the two countries can learn from each other as Sri Lanka keeps the momentum of comprehensive approach of reconciliation, reconstruction and rebuilding.

China is a steadfast supporter of Sri Lanka, always providing political as well as financial support and the ties between the two nations continue to grow stronger.

The three-day seminar ended today and 112 defence representatives from about 46 countries participated in the event.

  12. Lorenzo Says:

China is the economic, development, military, political and UNSC PROTECTOR of SL.

Only a damn fool in SL would reject China and join Endia.

China’s peaceful rise is LOVED by all peace loving people. Blooddy Endia like USA is in war after war (with its neighbors).

China was the world super power a few thousands of years ago and that’s how it should remain.

  13. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha says:

    Dear Anand USA:

You misunderstood my comment. I never stated President Obama is a “Muslim in hiding”. that is your word brought upon by your conclusion. If you would kindly read my comment I stated he has been sympathetic to the Muslims. I stated a fact when I wrote that President Obama has not only invited the US chapter of the Muslim brotherhood to the White House on more than one occasion but has also invited a whole host of Muslim extremists to the White house. The relationship between Israel and the US cannot be worse. In fact it is the worst it has been in since the birth of Israel.
Regarding your statement that President Obama is “wedded to the American people as a whole” contradicts the fact that Washington D.C. has sustained a steady growth since 2008 while the US economy is plunging. President Obama’s actions have demonstrated that he wants amnesty to 30 million illegal immigrants when our real unemployment rate is close to 19% (if one adds those who have stopped looking for jobs, those who have fallen out of the unemployment checks, those who self employed). In the first four years under the stimulus package he authorized the spending of trillions of dollars to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddi Mac including Goldman Sachs who after receiving the first bail out paid themselves into retirement and then came back for more which the President obliged. To date the US economy has not got anything from those stimulus packages.

President Obama’s “national health care act” runs into two thousand pages of regulations and new taxes. a couple of them include that an employer cover an employee AND his relatives INCLUDING prior illnesses. Now called the Obama care it has crippled the business sector who are now laying off people and even cutting the hours of part time workers in order to avoid the crushing effect of this health care. NO business can function let alone survive if they fully implement his health care program. This while he is the only President in US history to take so many multi million dollar vacations and has exempted the Cabinet, himself and the Congress from his own Obama care health program. That sir is not an example of being “wedded to the American people”.

Currently due to his mismanagement four out of five Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Unemployment is extremely high, one out of five American children are under the poverty level and risk hunger. The manufacturing sector, the Industrial sector and retail sectors show a flat growth rate. Big shopping chains like Walmart’s inventory remains on the shelves since it is too costly to buy these items. Worst of all President Obama has shut all government run oil rigs for environmental reasons causing the price of oil and gas to rise to unprecedented levels which has the domino effect on everything else. Only the privately owned oil rigs are pumping oil.

As for our foreign policy the US under President Obama has been unofficially classified as the “apologetic foreign policy” We have not had a President who has apologized so much about the US and by that he has demonstrated that he is ashamed of the nation he was elected to govern. You may also want to know that the US borrows 40 million dollars per month from China and our money is being printed 24 hours per day 365 days per year.

You may also want to reevaluate the power of Russia in the context of her relationship with China. Both have formed organizations whose members interlink. Russia has formed the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Org) and China has formed the SCO (Shanghai Cooperative Org) which together form a power base from the China sea to Eastern Europe. In the Security Council both Russia and China routinely “double veto” any decisions taken up by the US, UK or France thereby making that Council impotent or worthless. You may want to keep that in mind since both these nations act in cadence and have promised Sri Lanka that they will support her in the Security Council and outside as in the human rights motions formulated by the US at India’s demand. If Eelam were to be formed using the UN it would take the Security Council to do that and Russia/China’s double veto will keep Sri Lanka from facing that specter.
Finally Mr. Anand I demand that you check everything I have written and see if it not the fact and the truth.

  14. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Bernard replies to Anand
I forgot some key aspects that you should know. President Obama has also been the most anti Constitutional President in known history of the US. He wants to ban the private ownership of guns enshrined in the 2nd amendment, he has violated the right to privacy enshrined in the 4th amendment under PRISM. I am sure you have read of Mr. Snowden. and he has made a mockery of the 10th amendment which I will quote: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectfully, or to the people”.

Under his administration the rights of people to the rights of states such as Arizona’s immigration regulations have been voided by the Federal government. Under President Obama the Internal Revenue Service has grown by 16 thousand new employees to handle a slew of new taxes, and again Obmacare comes with it’s own taxes and regulations. As for the amnesty to 30 million illegal immigrants, they do not have any skills, refuse in general to learn English which would lead them to become welfare recipients the moment they get US citizenship. How can that be as you stated “wedded to the American people” . finally there is a sharp distinction between the US Jewish lobby that of the the Israeli lobby. The American Jewish Lobby are liberals and have been liberals for a long time. They support the liberal left wing neo communist government we now have. The multi Billionaire Mr. Soros is a strong supporter of President Obama’s administration.

  15. Lorenzo Says:

    BW,

“The relationship between Israel and the US cannot be worse. In fact it is the worst it has been in since the birth of Israel.”

Not true. Don’t judge this relationship based on OUTWARD things. US-Israel relationship is STRONGER THAN EVER TODAY. After a speech Obama made in 2011 when he claimed 1967 Israeli boundaries must be respected, he is trying very very hard to win the Jewish and Israeli support back. He MUST work like a dog to win it back otherwise his party goes home.

That is why US is helping Israel’s puppet Saudi to topple Syrian Shia regime. Without toppling the Hezbulla loving Shia regime in Syria USA-Israel cannot hammer Iran.

Israel bombed Syria 3 times since 2007. Now Israel brings US big guns. USA has no choice than support Israel no matter what Israel does.

US-Israel relationship goes well beyond the Jewish, Israeli, etc. lobby. US and Christian interests are at stake in Israel unless Israel is protected. Saudi, Jordan, etc. will NOT need US protection IF Israel is not there.

Russia has NOT defended its interests in Serbia (Serbia is to Russia what Israel is to USA), Libya, etc. and VERY UNLIKELY it will defend Syria IF USA attacks it. UNTIL an actual attack, it will try everything to STOP it but when an actual attack happens, Russians will eat the humble pie and worship Obama. SO FAR Putin has remained a blooddy coward. SCO and CSTO are just paper tigers when it comes to DEFENCE. I really hope I will be proven wrong by ACTIONS.

As Nanda says, Obama is worse than Bush which you may agree. But the POOR Americans support Obama. Republicans will CUT all the handouts so the DECISIVE POOR VOTERS of USA have no choice than support Obama. The MORE the poor voters are, the more popular the DEMOCRATS become.

Agree it is only Russian and/or Chinese VETO can save SL IF the colonials try to divide SL. If we stay NEUTRAL between Endia and China, China may NOT veto it. On MOST cases, China has NOT vetoed. Instead the Chinese tend to WALK OUT of crucial UNSC votes. We have to WORK HARD to get China to VETO (an act of commission) any US led BS against us.

Look at this very interesting research.

“A state with ballistic missiles is 266 percent more likely to initiate a crisis as compared to a state without ballistic missiles. Further, a state is 67 percent less likely to initiate a crisis against a potential defender with ballistic missiles, as compared to a potential defender without ballistic missiles.”

    – Mettler and Reiter

Local knowledge – “hitha honda gaani hemadama budding”. How true!

    e.g.

Endia has nukes. So Endia is 266% more likely to mess with SL than say Bangladesh (NO nukes).

    e.g.

If SL (NO nukes) has 30 troubles from outsiders, Endia (has nukes) will have only 10 such troubles.

SL cannot have nukes BUT the same result can be achieved by showing with evidence IF messed with, the meddlers’ interests in SL shall be BUSTED mercilessly.

e.g. IF Endia messes with SL, Sl should BUST Endian interests in SL mercilessly so it will be worthless for Endia to interefere. This is what we should create.

I know my good Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islamic friends here will VEHEMANTLY DISAGREE with me and the research but this is how the world works.

IF SL shows to its Tamil Elam enemies messing with SL will be HELL worse than 1958, 1983 and 2009, they will NOT mess with SL.

  17. Ananda-USA Says:

    Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha,

I am neither in favor of, nor against, Barak Obama, but support and/or criticize his actions on a case by case basis. I strive to be fair and factual in my criticism; a balance that I find missing in some of your comments. For example:

    1. You say Obama “wants to ban the private ownership of guns enshrined in the 2nd amendment”. Obama has NEVER advocated an outright ban on private ownership off ALL TYPES of weapons. He has advocated only a ban on assault weapons and weapons with large magazines that no private individual really needs for hunting and/or home defence. I say this as a gun enthusiast who owns many guns of all types, bought many decades ago before they became a problem in the US in the hands of criminals and psychologically deranged people. Now, I support a ban on military style weapons, and compulsory background checks not only on new buyers but also on current owners of such weapons, including myself, for the common safety of all people.

    2. I do agree with you that the invasion of Privacy that began under George Bush after 9/11 under the Patriot Act has ballooned beyond all limits under President Obama. THis is something that US Citizens will have to control with an eye on balancing national security and personal privacy.

    3. Although Edward Snowden has done a service to the American people by bringing attention to the apparently excessive invasion of Privacy by the US Govt, as one who has been privy to Classified Information, I do not admire or condone his release of these documents … because he violated a sacred trust;there is no doubt in my mind that he belongs in Prison. There are other avenues for exposing the invasion of privacy without endangering his country.

    4. You say, that “under his administration the rights of people to the rights of states such as Arizona’s immigration regulations, have been voided by the Federal government. ” Not so, in the case of immigration. Under the US Constitution, immigration falls under the purview of the Federal Govt., it is not a State responsibility. However, since Arizona bears the burden of illegal immigration as a border state, it does have a right to complain to the Federal Govt, and organize an effort to get the Federal Govt to combat it. States Vs Federal rights are complex; and no blanket statement can be made, but must be adjudicated by the courts. For example, marriage has traditionally been a states right, while Equal Rights Amendment is Federal, leading to confusion as to who has the right to legalize gay marriage. Despite the Superior Court’s nulllification of the Federal Defense of Marraige Act, this remains to be finally decided in various levels of Court Proceedings.

    5. Taxes provide the funds necessary to provide Federal and local services. As services increase due to public demand and varying priorities, ALL Presidents, President Obama included, raise taxes. I will not benefit personally from Obamacare, but I support it, because it is unconscionable for over 35 million citizens of the US to be without medical insurance of any kind, while hospitals are mandated to treat them free in Emergency Rooms at very high cost. Obamacare ensures that all US citizens pay something for their basic healthcare, and that the wealthiest of citizens subsidize those who have nothing. I think that is altogether proper and fitting in the wealthiest nation in the world, don’t you? If Sri Lanka can give guaranteed basic care free to its citizens, the US certainly should be able to provide subsidized basic care.

    6. As for the amnesty to 30 million illegal immigrants, you have the number wrong; it is 11 million illegal immigrants who will be provided a “path to citizenship” by Obama’s immigration proposal. On this I fully agree with you, that Obama should not be doing this and undermining the immigration laws of the country, compromising the orderly assimilation of immigrants into the citizenry, and overloading the tax-supported services produced by law-abiding citizens and local governments. Unfortunately, EVERYONE, including this President, is playing vote-bank politics with this issue and is destroying the very fabric of the nation. If someone is illegal, he/she should be summarily deported, after appropriate penalties and punishments. Also, to my mind, the longer they have been illegal residents, the more SEVERE should be the penalty. they do not have any skills, refuse in general to learn English which would lead them to become welfare recipients the moment they get US citizenship.

    7. Finally, you say there is a sharp distinction between the US Jewish lobby that of the the Israeli lobby. There is no such sharp distinction. When push comes to shove, and Israel’s existence is threatened, and its enlargement into a Greater Israel is at stake, all American Jews come together and support Israel’s agenda with a single voice. The “Liberality” you speak of flies out of the window. While understand, and often sympathize with them, by not moderating their goals they are collectively creating an unsolvable problem in the Middle East and a permanent state of insecurity for all people of the Middle East, and also for American Citizens drawn into this conflict like a fly into the fire.

You see, unlike the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka who are willing to accept other minorities (Tamils, Muslims, etc) as equal citizens in one nation shared equally, but are absolutely opposed to dividing the country into separate communal fiefdoms, the Israelis are unwilling to accept all Palestinians as equal citizens in one nation. That is because there are as many Palestinians as there are Jews now in all territories, and the birth rate of Palestenians is much higher. The bitter history of Jews living as minorities in other countries commits them to opposing such a one state solution in which they will eventually become a minority.

Given that reality, the only viable option is the two separate state solution: one for Jews and one for Palestinians. Only the fanatical greed of the Zionists committed to a Greater Israel for more West Bank land stands in the way of the two-state solution. Sometime, perhaps 50 years from now, both sides will give up and compromise. Luckily for you and me, this is not our problem to solve: it is for the Israelis and Palestinians, and Muslims and Christians, to solve according to their wits … we should stay out of this internecine struggle … we have enough troubles of our own to solve in Sri Lanka.

    8. My original comment on your post was to protest your characterization of Obama as a Muslim zealot attempting to raise Al-Quaida to power in Syria as WITHOUT SUBSTANCE & LACKING PROOF, and to debunk your conjecture that Russia will go to war against the US to defend Syria. Both of these positions are ABSOLUTELY FALSE.

So you see, I am neither an uncritical fan, nor a jaundiced opponent of President Obama. He has done many good things that I support, and a number of bad things that I oppose vehemently.

Whatever my stand is on his policies, he is a decent and able man doing his best as God gives him the wit to see it, who is, I emphasize again, “wedded to the American People.” He should be judged FAIRLY based on FACTS, not on the basis of unsubstantiated and incorrect CONJECTURES.

  18. Ananda-USA Says:

    Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha:

First of all, my name is Ananda … a common Sinhala name … and not Anand, which is the Indian version of the same name. So, how is it that you repeatedly made that mistake in addressing me? Also, no one in Sri Lanka, except Tamil people, spell and pronounce your last name in the way you write it. How come?

Secondly, you said: “You misunderstood my comment. I never stated President Obama is a “Muslim in hiding”. that is your word brought upon by your conclusion. ”

Quite true … it is indeed my conclusion .. coined to rather neatly summarize the gist and thrust of your statements as emphasized below in bold letters.

You can skip around the skirt, but the your statements clearly identify Obama as a dangerous, and possibly disloyal, supporter of Muslims … in fact “a Muslim in hiding” as I summarized it.

By the way, on the issue of Obama’s support for Israel … you are wrong again. It is a widely known fact, acknowledged by Israeli leaders and Jewish American Organizations as well, that the Obama Administration has been MORE SUPPORTIVE of Israel than MOST PREVIOUS US administrations in military, political and economic spheres. I think Lorenzo has already corrected you on that.

Finally, unlike you, I am glad that Barak Obama is MORE OPEN MINDED with regard to Muslims than previous Presidents. Much of the past mistakes of the US in the Muslim World has been due to lack of Empathy and Unfair Knee-Jerk Demonization of Muslims in general. The US has sacrificed much Blood & Treasure as a result, and has painted itself now into a very small corner of the world.

Unfortunately, Barak Obama is now rushing to repeat the mistakes of George W. Bush, when he demonized Saddam Hussein to fool the American people, and attacked Iraq on a fake pretext of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

It seems that US Never Learns from its Mistakes.

    ……………………………
The answer is more insidious than that. President Obama is aware that the Syrian protesters are peppered with the Al-Qaeda. this is a validated fact.

  19. Fran Diaz Says:

We are inclined to agree with Ananda-USA.

I am not perfectly well informed, but shall attempt to add to the information pool.

The problems inherited by Pres. Obama were/are massive. The Bush (Jnr) war with Iraq had left USA with a depleted Treasury (prior to war the US had a fiscal surplus under Pres.Clinton), and Pres. Obama has handled a crushing situation re the Deficit, dying big banks, businesses (resurrected the car industry especially, America’s pride), impossible foreign relations, horrendous weather related incidents due to global warming/Climate change, etc., quite adroitly. His achievements in spite of subtle and acrid aggressiveness from the Opposition have been remarkable. The internal issues have been so complex that the ordinary people in the world will never know or understand it all.

Re ObamaCare : American health insurance companies have covered their costs by increasing coverage for those who do insure. They have also let go some employees to ensure company profits. It is the purely profit motive that governs some insurance companies with no care about employees. Doubtless, employees would have accepted less pay to keep their jobs, but no such incentives were offered, as far we know. There are many, many parents in America who blesses the President for the new health care benefits, particularly those with children having chronic illnesses. Also, minors (under 18 yrs) receive coverage under their parents’ health care insurance. These and other health care changes have new and far reaching benefits for the American people. We hope that some day Universal Health Care will come to USA, same as in Canada, Sri Lanka, and the UK.

Re the present situation with Syria : Pres. Obama has handed the situation to the Congress and the UN for the ultimate decision. He has merely opened some options to choose/follow. During the Syrian civil war, he treated it as such and did not interfere. Even in the Syrian situation, matters were/are so complicated, that the world may never know all the details.

We all hope sanity prevails and no wars ever happen on Earth. SEVEN BILLION human souls and the nuclear weapons combination do not augur well for human life on Earth.

Pres. MR’s situation is somewhat similar to Pres. Obama’s situation in America. Pres. MR too inherited a very bad situation within Sri Lanka, and he has managed to turn matters around for the better. Friendship with any perceived ‘enemy’ is infinitely better than going to war, unless there is proven danger and terrorism by that ‘enemy’ in one’s own country.

The Defence Secretary is RIGHT ON TARGET when he warns of growing Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka.

Instead of PROTESTING their DEEP DISTURBANCE at his comment, the SLMC and the ACMC Muslim Parties should HEED the ADVICE and WARNING of Gotabaya Rajapakse, and take IMMEDIATE ACTION to PREVENT the growth of extremism in their community and IMPROVE ITS INTEGRATION into the Greater Sri Lankan society.

It is the ISOLATION and BRAINWASHING of Tamils in the Eelamist controlled territories over 30 years that FED & SUSTAINED the Eelam Insurgency, which destroyed and impoverished the Tamil Community of Sri Lanka. The Muslims should have pity for their community and learn from that tragic lesson.

They should bind themselves to a single identity as Sri Lankan citizens following a MODERATE brand of Islam that has held sway in Sri Lanka for centuries and allowed them to remain a model minority. They should REJECT ALL Militant and Intolerant forms of Islam …. imported to Sri Lanka from Wahhabi dominated Muslim states … that will surely lead only to the destruction and impoverishment of their community.

In the words of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, there are only TWO TYPES of People in Sri Lanka that we recognize: Those who LOVE Sri Lanka and those who DON’T.

Loving Sri Lanka is the same as establishing common cause with ALL Sri Lankan CITIZENS irrespective of community, and rejecting allegiances to Foreign Ethnic and Religious Communities, and to Intolerant Dogmas alien to Sri lankan society, and holding supreme their identity as Sri Lankan citizens.

Therefore, we say to our dear Fellow Muslim Sri Lankans, LOVE Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka ALONE, EMBRACE without Reservation ALL of its People irrespective of community as your very own, and REJECT Intolerant Dogmas imported from abroad, no matter how alluring their siren song woos your ears!

Muslim allies of Sri Lankan government react to Defense Secretary’s comments on Muslim extremism

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 06, Colombo: A comment made by the Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse attributing the rising religious tensions in the country to the Muslim extremism has disturbed the Muslim allies of the government.

Both Rauf Hakeem Sri Lanka’s Justice Minister and the leader of the main Muslim party, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and the leader of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC), Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen have deplored the Defense Secretary’s statement alleging Muslim extremism in the country.

Hakeem criticized the Defense Secretary’s comments saying that he was disturbed by the warning that extremist elements may try to promote Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka.

“We are extremely disturbed by the specific reference to the Muslim community of Sri Lanka as possible breeding grounds of extremism within the country,” AFP quoted Hakeem as saying in a statement.

“I would like to publicly contradict the assertion of the secretary of defense,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address at the just concluded Defense Seminar 2013, Rajapaksa, who is also President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s younger brother, said that there are some foreign groups that wish to encourage Sri Lankan Muslims to identify themselves more with the global Muslim community, reducing their integration with the rest of the population.

“It is a known fact that Muslim Fundamentalism is spreading all over the world and in this region,” Defense Secretary said adding that Sri Lanka’s law enforcement agencies and security forces are concerned about the situation.

He said there have been instances where extremist elements were found in transit in Sri Lanka and were arrested and handed over to appropriate authorities.

“The possibility that such extremist elements may try to promote Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka is a cause for concern,” Rajapaksa explained during his speech.

Hakeem warned him not to interfere with religion and culture and leave it in the hands of the respective people “as in the case of all enlightened democracies.”

Meanwhile, Bathiyutheen deploring the Defense Secretary’s statement said that there has not been a single incident where a Muslim had been identified or arrested for having involved in extremist activities.

“Muslims all over the country deplore the said statement and are highly perturbed particularly at a time when there is sudden eruption of hatred directed at Muslims by certain interest elements which we believe needs to be investigated to get to its root,” Bathiyutheen said in a statement released to local media.

He said the Muslims in the country have tolerated the provocative attacks by extremists on their places of worship and of their faith itself as well as their practices as Muslims for more than one year now.

“However, a tendency prevails today to depict a picture portraying the Muslim community as a whole as the culprit when a crime is committed by an individual Muslim while offenders belonging to other communities are treated as individual offenders,” he said in the statement.

He said his party as a partner in the government has stood with it in times of need.

“Therefore it is in the same spirit as well as in the best interest of the community that we represent that we call upon the Defense secretary to clarify this statement so as to dispel any mistrust that the particular statement has created,” he said.

Sri Lanka’s Muslim community and places of their worship and businesses have increasingly come under attack by Buddhist extremist groups such as Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and Ravana Balaya. The BBS successfully campaigned against the Halal certification of foods in the country.

  22. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Bernard Wijeyasingha replies to Lorenzo:

I base the point that the relationship between the US and Israel is the worst by ISRAEL’S OPINION. Netyanyahu has been on US TV debating a stubborn Obama and the people of Israel have the lowest level of favorability towards this current administration. I base mine on facts. Reading your comments about this subject you base it on your own opinion. Lorenzo your comments about Israel shows a deep hatred of Jews. When did Saudi Arabia become Israel’s puppet. Google ‘Wahhabi destruction of Islam”. The Wahhabi sect born in Saudi Arabia is so radical even Islamic holy sites are targeted for their impure aspects. The Wahhabi movement hates the Jews more than any other Muslim movement in the Middle East including Hezbollah and Hamas. When you make a statement such as “israel’s puppet Saudi Arabia back it up with evidence so others can check it out. Then you connect the collapse of Damascus as a necessary step to take down Iran. Iran could have been taken down years ago when they first started their nuclear program. That is Washington D.C.’s indecision and not any perceived power emanating from Damascus.

One more point. If Obama arms the protesters of Syria and Russia arms Damascus, then Israel would face the specter of literally hundreds of thousands or armed refugees entering Israel. Already Syrian protesters who are wounded are going to Israeli hospitals for treatment. If you entertain the concept that the CSTO and the SCO are just paper tigers give the reason for your comment. I base it on that the CSTO has a combined air force from all it’s member states and a rapid strike force similar to that of NATO. The strength of the CSTO and the SCO also has to be judged by the demise of the members of NATO which was created by the US as an alternative power to the UN. Most of the NATO members are European and they are in a deep economic malaise. They cannot afford to go into a war especially a war of attrition.

Finally Netyanyahu threatened if the US does not support Israel (which shows how divided the relationship between. the US and Israel has taken under Obama) then Israel would go it alone – against Iran. Regarding Putin eating humble pie to an inept moron like Obama shows you know next to nothing of the former head of the KGB and the current rise of Russia as a world power. Unlike Putin Obama’s only experience is that of a community organizer before he was elected President and even that was due to him being the first black man. Regarding Israel they are the only super power of the region, the only nation that can claim to be a Democracy is an area of despots and terrorists. I have more respect for Israel than any Arab nation.

To Ananda: Regarding your name it was a grammatical mistake on my part. Regarding your denying that you stated that you believed that I stated Obama is a Muslim in hiding I copied and post your own statement:”You are way off base in thinking Barak Obama is a Moslem in hiding” That is in your first comment to me. Please try to be consistent.

Regarding the ban on guns Obama not only wanted the ban on guns but he wanted the UN to address it since he could not go around the Constitution. For the 1st time in US history a President wanted an outside entity to pass regulations that would effectively disarm the US citizens. Had he followed with his threat it would have resulted with each state of the Union deciding to recognize international law which would have balkanized the states along these lines.

The expansion of the National Security Agency took place under Obama. It is now seven times the size of the Pentagon. I agree the Homeland Security agency was set up under Bush but there was no reason for the existence of PRISM which Snowden outed which revealed that every American, every e-mail including this one to other nations secret service agencies were invaded. That is my definition of a flagrant violation of our privacy and I am sick and tired of people like you who constantly blame the former President for the mistakes of the current President.

You claim to live in the US then you know as well as I do that new Presidents are allowed one hundred days to blame the former administration. I would even give President Obama one year to blame the former President for present problems but this maniac in the White house and his cronies continue to blame Bush after FIVE YEARS IN OFFICE. When will Obama stop blaming Bush and like an adult start taking responsibility for his own actions?

Regarding Snowden he is not unique in his act. We (the US government) has accepted spies from other nations with vital information and never questioned their legitimacy even when nations like China demand they be returned. In the world of espionage which Snowden is engaged the moral aspects of it are blurred depending on the nature of it. For the nations (and people) hurt by PRISM Snowden is a hero and that includes myself for I do not want Washington DC to nose around my privacy while violating the fourth amendment which ensures my right to privacy. In that context Snowden is only the enemy of the criminal who did the dirty deed of spying on his own electorate.

Regarding immigration yes you are right. It is the sole responsibility of the US Federal government. But NOT ILLEGAL immigration. That falls under state laws as well and what was voided from Arizona were laws that addressed ILLEGAL immigration which now under Obama has been stripped from the states. You got to differentiate between a LEGAL immigrant and an ILLEGAL immigrant.

No it is 30 million Illegal immigrants. Ananda remember when our unemployment was pegged at 9.7% for months on end in 2009- 20011? That number never deviated even when unemployment figures per month was rising by close to half a million (around 350 thousand to 400 thousand) and you know why? because when the numbers were added they did not include those who have stopped looking for jobs, those who have run out on their unemployment checks, those who are independent contractors, those who have graduated but never looked for a job but chose to live at home with their parents. If included the unemployment rate was closer to 19%. Before the 11 million number suddenly materialized it was around 30 million and that was a low estimate since illegal immigrants have been entering this country for a long time. One more thing those who come in, stay for a while then return and then come back are not counted. Only those who come and stay thereby skewing the numbers.

Regarding the Jewish lobby in the US yes they do support Israel but the liberal point of view or appeasement with Palestine. Keeping in mind there are factions within the Jewish lobbyists here in the US and in Israel the prevailing support that the American Jewish lobbyist support is a compromise between Israel and what is now known as Palestine (which BTW was the name given to ancient Judea by the Roman senate after the Jewish uprising in 72AD at that time all of Jordon, and what is now Palestine was part of the province of ancient Judea. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed after WW1 the British inherited the Jewish lands and promised the Zionist move. all the lands that formerly made up Judea to the Jews, instead they got only a sliver of their ancient homeland and Jordon became an independent Muslim nation). The American Jewish Lobby has never supported an aggressive stand against the Palestinians. They have criticized Israel of annexing the Sinai peninsula and the Golan heights which Israel got after the 6 day war when Israel was born against five Arab nations.

You comment of the Jews are completely wrong Israeli citizens include Christians, and Muslims. they always have and as I stated earlier the present day Israel sits on the ancient Jewish Roman province of Judea. It is their ancestral land where the remnants of the Temple of Solomon still remains and now is called the “wailing wall” That is the land of King David, King Herod, King Solomon. It is the Arab occupiers who demand a state. Ever wonder why other Arab nations have not taken them into their lands? the reason is they Arab states want Israel gone and play the Palestinian card. That is the same mentality of the Tamil diaspora who call the northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka “homelands”. They are not “homelands” since only Tamil Nadu qualifies for it. That is the “Palestinian form of diplomacy” to convince the world that Sri Lanka’s northern and eastern provinces are the “homelands” of the Tamils and deserve a separate state.

As for your last remark you got to list what Obama has done good for I cannot find one single one. Obviously you are an Obama supporter and blind to his endless acts against the US people. Please list at least a couple of issues Obama has done good to the people of the US. You have proven nothing except your own zealotry to hate the Jews and blame them for everything.

I addressed the issue of mistakenly printing your name. But you got to know my Grandfather who was also a Wijeyasingha was a Buddhist Scholar and a Buddhist who translated Pali scripts that the Bikkus found difficult to translate. Those are my Singhalese credentials. What are yours?

I will not engage in an endless debate on who is wrong or right but I leave you with a Socratic way of debating and that is questions. If Obama is the most supportive of Israel then why did Netyanyahu come on US TV and address the US people for support? If the American Jewish Lobby is for Israel why don’t they support a united Israel and NO Palestine (remember the word “Palestine” is a Roman word given by the Roman Senate as an act of punishment on the Jews for the 72AD uprising. The word Palestine and Judea address the same land.) Finally if Obama has done so much of good for the American people could you please list them?

  23. Lorenzo Says:

    BW,

I didn’t say Obama has done so much good for American people. I only said he is a master manipulator who has manipulated POOR Americans with Obamacare, handouts, etc. These are BAD for the economy but good to keep the democrats in power.

As Nanda said, Obama is WORSE than Bush. Now he wants another war! I’m NO Obama supporter.

I agree on Palestine which is nothing but an ARAB ONLY part of Israel due to RACIST ethnic cleansing policies of ARABS against Jews much like Tamils in SL.

As for the Jewish lobby, everyone knows it supports Israel. The PUBLICITY STUNT over Israel is a petty one. ON serious matters US stands by Israel NO MATTER WHAT and Obama has NO OPTION than to follow suit.

The whole Syria war thing is to support Saudi expansionism and Israeli interests to punish Syria-Iran and destroy their nuke, etc. programs, divide and destroy Islamics.

Direct link between Assad and gas attack elusive for U.S.

    By Mark Hosenball
    September 6, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – With the United States threatening to attack Syria, U.S. and allied intelligence services are still trying to work out who ordered the poison gas attack on rebel-held neighborhoods near Damascus.

No direct link to President Bashar al-Assad or his inner circle has been publicly demonstrated, and some U.S. sources say intelligence experts are not sure whether the Syrian leader knew of the attack before it was launched or was only informed about it afterward.

While U.S. officials say Assad is responsible for the chemical weapons strike even if he did not directly order it, they have not been able to fully describe a chain of command for the August 21 attack in the Ghouta area east of the Syrian capital.

It is one of the biggest gaps in U.S. understanding of the incident, even as Congress debates whether to launch limited strikes on Assad’s forces in retaliation.

After wrongly claiming that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction before the 2003 U.S. invasion, the U.S. intelligence community, along with the Obama administration, are trying to build as solid a case as they can about what it says was a sarin nerve gas attack that killed over 1,400 people.

The Syrian government, backed by Russia, blames Sunni rebels for the gas attack. Russia says Washington has not provided convincing proof that Assad’s troops carried out the attack and called it a “provocation” by rebel forces hoping to encourage a military response by the United States.

Identifying Syrian commanders or leaders as those who gave an order to fire rockets into the Sunni Muslim areas could help Obama convince a war-weary American public and skeptical members of Congress to back limited strikes against Assad.

But penetrating the secretive Syrian government is tough, especially as it fights a chaotic civil war for its survival.

“Decision-making at high levels within foreign governments is always a difficult intelligence target. Typically small numbers of people are involved, operational security is high, and penetration – through either human or technical means – is hard,” said Paul Pillar, a former CIA expert on the Middle East.

One possible link between the gas attack and Assad’s inner circle is the Syrian government body that is responsible for producing chemical weapons, U.S. and allied security sources say.

Personnel associated with the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Council (SSRC), which has direct ties to Assad’s entourage, were likely involved in preparing munitions in the days before the attack, they say.

A declassified French intelligence report describes a unit of the SSRC, known by the code name “Branch 450”, which it says is in charge of filling rockets or shells with chemical munitions in general.

U.S. and European security sources say this unit was likely involved in mixing chemicals for the August 21 attack and also may have played a more extensive role in preparing for it and carrying it out.

    “BEST EVIDENCE”

Bruce Riedel, a former senior U.S. intelligence expert on the region and sometime advisor to the Obama White House, said that intelligence about the SSRC’s alleged role is the most telling proof the United States has at hand.

“The best evidence linking the regime to the attack at a high level is the involvement of SSRC, the science center that created the (chemical weapons) program and manages it. SSRC works for the President’s office and reports to him,” Riedel said.

U.S. officials say Amr Armanazi, a Syrian official identified as SSRC director in a State Department sanctions order a year ago, was not directly involved.

Much of the U.S. claim that Assad is responsible was initially based on reports from witnesses, non-governmental groups and hours of YouTube videos.

U.S. officials have not presented any evidence to the public of scientific samples or intelligence information proving that sarin gas was used or that the Syrian government used it.

The United States has also not named any Syrian commanders it thinks gave the green light to fire gas-laden rockets into Ghouta.

But U.S. and allied security sources say they believe that Syrian military units responsible for the areas that were attacked were under heavy pressure from top commanders to wipe out a stubborn rebel presence there so government troops could redeploy to other trouble spots, including the city of Aleppo.

An analysis by the Congressional Research Service, a branch of the Library of Congress, reported that a declassified U.S. government paper summarizing intelligence findings concludes that Syrian government officials were “witting and directed” the gas attack. But the evidence of who ordered it was not watertight, the analysis said.

The findings were partly based on intercepted communications “involving a senior official intimately familiar with the offensive” which “confirmed that chemical weapons were used by the regime,” it said.

As more information has been collected and analyzed, early theories about the attack have largely been dismissed, U.S. and allied security sources said.

Reports that Assad’s brother, Maher, a general who commands an elite Republican Guard unit and a crack Syrian army armored division, gave the order to use chemicals have not been substantiated, U.S. sources said. Some U.S. sources now believe Maher Assad did not order the attack and was not directly involved.

    Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha,

With reference to your last post, here is my response:

    1. “Regarding your name it was a grammatical mistake on my part.” OK … but it was curious!

    2. “Regarding your denying that you stated that you believed that I stated Obama is a Muslim in hiding” … where did I deny that? I accepted that I stated it and went onto expain that my statement amounted to calling Obama a “Muslim in hiding”. I an NOT INCONSISTENT … you are.

    3. You said “Regarding the ban on guns Obama not only wanted the ban on guns but he wanted the UN to address it since he could not go around the Constitution.” I don’t think he ever said such a ludicrous thing … Please provide a credible reference as proof. The rest of this paragraph is IRRELEVANT.

    4. You said “The expansion of the National Security Agency took place under Obama” … I acknowledged that in my reply and said Govt surveillance had ballooned under Obama since the Patriot Act was enacted. So what ARE YOU CONTESTING, except making DISPARAGING REMARKS about me? Rest of that paragraph is IRRELEVANT.

    5. You said “You claim to live in the US then you know as well as I do that new Presidents are allowed one hundred days to blame the former administration. I would even give President Obama one year to blame the former President for present problems but this maniac in the White house and his cronies continue to blame Bush after FIVE YEARS IN OFFICE. When will Obama stop blaming Bush and like an adult start taking responsibility for his own actions?”

You sound like some of my die hard Republican friends … nothing Obama does is right … and George Bush was God! I, on the other hand is neither a die hard Republican nor a die hard Democrat. I am not a die-hard anything, except a PATRIOT where Sri Lanka is concerned! I vote for whoever has the best set of policies that will help the country. George Bush left the country in a TERRIBLE MESS having launched the Iraq war on a credit card without raising taxes to pay for it, and cutting existing taxes at the same time doubling and tripling the National Debt! You may have forgotten the Mortgage Crisis and Banking Meltdown that greeted Obama when he entered the Office and the heavy unemployment that persists to this day. That was no ordinary business cycle low, but the worst recession since the Great Depression! Recovery from such events take DECADES, not FIVE YEARS, my friend!
By the way, I don’t want to engage in Democrat-Republican wars … I am simply not interested in that unproductive debate.

    6. You said, ” Regarding Snowden, …… Snowden is a hero and that includes myself for I do not want Washington DC to nose around my privacy while violating the fourth amendment which ensures my right to privacy. ” Neither do I wish to have my privacy invaded, but I also recognize that there are very important national security issues at stake here. I accept that you care MORE about your PRIVACY, but I also care about the safety of the US and its citizens. In the fullness of time, the People of the US will decide how much privacy they are willing to give up and how much security they want. I still believe that Snowden is a CRIMINAL who belongs in Prison … he violated the law, and his duty to protect Classified Information crucial to the safety of his country. He had other avenues of bringning his concerns to the attention of responsible leaders that he did not use. For example, he could have contacted the Defense Appropriations Committees of the Senate and the House.

    7. You sad “Regarding immigration yes you are right. It is the sole responsibility of the US Federal government. But NOT ILLEGAL immigration. That falls under state laws as well and what was voided from Arizona were laws that addressed ILLEGAL immigration which now under Obama has been stripped from the states. You got to differentiate between a LEGAL immigrant and an ILLEGAL immigrant.”

Under the Constitution, Immigration (Legal and Illegal) is the responsibility of the Federal Govt. However, State Govts have been passing laws against illegal immigrants and this has been challenged by the Federal Govt. This issue is yet another State Vs Federal rights issue that has not yet been resolved. However, in the past, the Federal Govt has been solely responsible for all immigration matters.

For example search Google for “Illegal immigration: Is it a state or federal issue? By John Vettese”

You pick a number of 30 million illegal immigrants out of thin air, without credible references, and expect me to accept it. I know only that 11 million is the accepted figure .(see above article also for confirmation of this number). Beyond that I have no credible information. If you have credible references … please cite them.

    8. You said “Regarding the Jewish lobby in the US yes they do support Israel but the liberal point of view or appeasement with Palestine.

All of the above material is IRRELEVANT to our discussion, and I fail to see why what I said is “completely wrong!!!” as you characterize it.

Perhaps you are referring to my statement that the number of Jews and Arabs in all terrioiries (Israel + Gaza + West Bank) are about equal. I am correct. I know the majority of Israelis are Jews (75%, 6 million), followed by a hefty contingent of Israeli Arab Moslems (21%, 1.7 million), and a sprinkling of Israeli Christians, Druze etc (4%, 0.35 million). But, when you add the Moslem Arabs in the Gaza (1 million) and West Bank (2.5 million) the total Moslem population is about 5.2 million … or nearly equal to the total Jewish population of 6 million. I also know the history of the Jews and of the Middle East in depth … so there is no need to regurgitate all of that.

I was merely taking the situation as it stands NOW where Moslem Arabs are residents of long standing and live there. I explained why the one state solution is unacceptable to Jews, and that those interested in increasing the land area of Israel are standing in the way of the two state solution. Short of murdering all of the Palestinians (which the Jews will not do) there will be no solution until the two sides weary of the struggle and compromise … perhaps 50 years from now. You can’t ask them to go to other countries, just like the Sri Lankan Tamils they are long time residents of that land. If you can’t live in one state with them, then you have to give a part for them to live in. Because Sinhalese are (currently … if ILLEGAL immigration into Sri Lanka can be stopped) the overwhelming majority in the entirety of Sri Lanka (74%), Sinhalese do not fear of becoming a minority, and as such, they are willing to accept all LEGAL residents of ONE Sri Lanka as equal citizens without contesting it.

    9. You said “As for your last remark you got to list what Obama has done good for I cannot find one single one. Obviously you are an Obama supporter and blind to his endless acts against the US people. Please list at least a couple of issues Obama has done good to the people of the US. ”

Well, I am not in the business of defending or crucifying Obama. As I said, I support/criticize Obama issue by issue. I have identified Obamacare as a good thing he has done for the American people. Rescuing the US economy from the Total Mess Geogre Bush left it in is a big one for which he deserves great credit. Closing down our involvement in Iraq and bringing the troops home is yet another.

    10. You said “You have proven nothing except your own zealotry to hate the Jews and blame them for everything. ”

I REALLY RESENT the above statement. I don’t think I said ANYTHING that indicated bias against Jews, all I did was to point out the FACTS impartially. It seems to me that you have a personal stake in Jewish affairs and is easily offended. Therefore, I suggest you avoid commenting on related matters if it causes you emotional anguish, but don’t expect everyone else to buy into your biased propaganda.

I praise the Israelis/Jews where praise is due, and criticize them where blame is due. At no time do I say things that cannot be substantiated with FACTS, and nor do I shirk away from telling the TRUTH however unpalatable it is to them, when it affects countries I love. For example, I am convinced that the looming assault on Syria is in defence of Israel to ultimately get at Iran, and destroy its nuclear facilities, as Obama has promised to do. I believe that Iran, as a sovereign nation, has every right to develop whatever nuclear technologies it needs, as its enemies have already done. It is common knowledge, that Netanyahu has been urging an attack by the US on Iran even on his last trip to the US on the eve of the last Presidential election. That is also a FACT!

On the other hand. I am grateful to the Israelis for the arms they gave Sri Lanka to defend itself in the Eelam war, which is a FACT. I advocate a strong friendship between Sri Lanka and Israel, but because Sri Lanka cannot change the course of events as fashioned by Israelis who don’t want to compromise on anything, I recommend to Sri Lanka not to get involved in this unsolvable conflict, for any price.

    11. You said “If Obama is the most supportive of Israel then why did Netyanyahu come on US TV and address the US people for support? ” Yes Netanyahu did that, and that angered me no end …. interfering in a US Presidential Campaign! I suppose he has the same biases you have against Obama and could not overcome them despite Obama record of helping Israel until then. Perhaps it was because Obama wanted to pressure Israel to sop building settlements. Perhaps, Netanyahu felt that he could get more uncritical support from the Republicans. I don’t really know … but them who can really decipher Netanyahu? All we know is that he bet on the Republicans, and got Obama to deal with for four more years!

I want to close down this debate … because it is getting ugly with wild accusations, and is a largely IRRELEVANT discussion to matters that affect Sri Lanka. Therefore, I will not respond to any reply that you post.

    Gotabhaya reiterates concern over extremism

    By Shamindra Ferdinandoa
    Island.lk
    September 6, 2013

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday reiterated that extremism posed a severe threat not only to post-war Sri Lanka but many countries in the region as well as the industrialised world.

The war veteran was responding to a statement issued by Justice Minister Hakeem, who is also the SLMC leader, in the wake of Rajapaksa’s address to the Defence Seminar in Colombo early this week. Minister Hakeem was obviously blind to the ground situation, he said, adding that the world was in turmoil today partly due to extremism.

The Defence Secretary said: “We are working closely with many countries to tackle extremist acts. In fact, it is an ongoing process involving intelligence services and other relevant agencies. Due to vigilance on the part of those fighting extremism and terrorism we were able to thwart plans to cause mayhem.”

The Defence Secretary said Minister Hakeem shouldn’t have dragged Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia into the debate as he never mentioned those countries. “The SLMC failed to comprehend what I have said”, he said.

Extremism fueled by a few threatened all countries including the Muslim world, Rajapaksa said. “Minister Hakeem’s reference to Muslim countries backing Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council is irrelevant. At the recent Defence seminar, I discussed the threat posed by Muslim extremists as well as Sinhala hardliners.

There is absolutely no suggestion that Muslim countries are in anyway responsible for the situation. Regrettably Minister Hakeem had misinterpreted facts.”

The Defence Secretary said that the government had cooperated with many governments in the region as well as the US during Ranil Wickremesinghe’s tenure as the Premier. “Sri Lanka handed over an extremist wanted by the US intelligence during the UNP-led administration in which Minister Hakeem was a senior member. The present administration too acted on information furnished by foreign intelligence services to intercept wanted extremists.”

Responding to a query by The Island, Defence Secretary Rajapaksa said that Minister Hakeem had misconstrued his assertion that there were some foreign groups bent on encouraging misguided local Muslims to identify themselves more with the extremist global Muslim community, thereby reducing the community’s integration with the rest of the population.

The Defence Secretary said: “It is a known fact that Muslim fundamentalism is spreading all over the world and in this region. This is a situation that our law enforcement agencies and security forces are concerned about, particularly as there have been instances where extremist elements have been in transit in Sri Lanka prior to arrest and handing over to appropriate authorities. The possibility that such extremist elements may try to promote Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka is a cause for concern.”

  33. Ananda-USA Says:

Bravo, Mr. President … you say it like it is, but pray are you not playing into hands by enabling the Tiger Nominated Agents of the TNA to assume control of the Northern and Eastern Provincil Councils in the upcoming Provincial Councils Elections? How do you propose to contain their TREASONOUS activities then?

“Arab Spring” was a Western inspired move to undermine and destabilize every stable country in the Moslem world. But yet, the “Human Rights” and “Democracy” propaganda used for destabilization misfired BIGTIME … with every country in which the Arab Spring took hold moving away from increased democracy to Islamic fundamentalism.

Along the way, except for oil-rich Saudi Arabia and Qatar … fearful of their monarchies being overturned …. who have sought refuge in the embrace of the Western Neocolonialists they had previously denigrated as Evil Incarnate, the people of the Arab Spring nations have turned away from those who staged the puppet show.

Margaret Warner of the respected PBSNewshour show reported yesterday from Cairo, Egypt that the people of Egypt OVERWHELMINGLY OPPOSE the looming military attack on Syria …. simply because they don’t TRUST THE MOTIVES of the Western countries eagerly jockeying into position to attack Syria. This view, Margret said, is UNIVERSAL among the Moslem and Christian peoples of the Middle East, including the Christians of Syria.

And so, ONCE AGAIN, the best laid plans of the master manipulators of Western Neocolonialism … has gone astray … BIG TIME, and their dynamite has blown up in their own hands!

Sri Lankan President warns of foreign attempts to destabilize the country

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 07, Kandy: Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa today warned that foreign forces are plotting various ways to destabilize the country and urged the ethnic Tamil and Muslim communities not to be misled by false propaganda campaigns that attempt to create rifts among the communities.

Speaking at an election rally held at the Edward Sports Grounds in Matale to support the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at the upcoming Central Provincial Council elections, the President said four years after the victory over the Tamil Tiger terrorism, external forces are attempting to create a situation similar to the “Arab Spring” in the Middle East to change the regime.

The President explained that uprisings in Libya and Egypt created by street protests and by electronic and social media resulted in overthrowing the regimes but those countries are still in chaos and plagued with problems.

Anti-national groups, on the order of foreign forces are making similar attempts in Sri Lanka by creating racial and religious tension between the ethnic communities, the President pointed out.

He asked the people to be cautious and not to be misled by the propaganda against the country, and act intelligently to save the freedom the country earned after defeating the terrorism.

“We cannot develop a country without the cooperation of all communities, all the religions,” the President said.

He said our responsibility is to build a country for the child to be born tomorrow and not just for the present.

Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Wimal Weerawansa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Vijith Vijithamuni de Soysa, Rohana Kumara Dissanayake, Nandimithra Ekanayake and several parliamentarians participated in today’s rally.

The President also addressed a public rally yesterday at the Kolonnawatte Pradeshiya Sabha grounds at Kengalla in Kandy.

Addressing the massive crowd gathered, despite the adverse weather, the President said the government is making decisions for the long-term benefit of the people and the country with a clear awareness of the posterity and the future generation and not the shortsighted decisions the opposition United National Party take.

Speaking of the elections for the Northern Provincial Council the President said holding elections in the war-torn province for the first time is a victory for democracy and he will not let anyone to divide the country as long as he is in power.

“I will not let anyone achieve what Prabhakaran (the terrorist LTTE leader) could not achieve,” he said.

Egypt’s prosecutor begins probe into political activists: source

    September 6, 2013

CAIRO (Reuters) – Egypt’s public prosecutor is looking into legal complaints against a group of prominent democracy and rights activists, a judicial source at the prosecutor’s office said on Saturday, adding to fears of a widening crackdown on dissent.

Confirming a story on the Web site of state newspaper Al-Ahram on Saturday, the source said the prosecutor received complaints from private citizens against 35 political figures, many of them important figures in the 2011 uprising against ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

They include activist Ahmed Maher, blogger Ahmed Douma and liberal politician Amr Hamzawi, the source said.

The complaints accuse the activists of accepting money from the United States and other countries, and say that diplomatic cables leaked by WikiLeaks support their claims, the source said.

Hamzawi denied on Twitter the allegations in Al-Ahram. “Claims that I got foreign money are completely untrue, the campaign of fabrication and distortion must immediately stop,” he said.

It was not clear which WikiLeaks cables the complaints referred to, but some cables talk about the then-U.S. ambassador meeting or having dinner with activists in 2007 and 2008.

The prosecutor’s office was not available to confirm the report or comment.

Prosecutions based on complaints brought by private individuals have long been seen as a tool of political intimidation in Egypt, often instigated by government supporters. Many were brought against opponents of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi before he was deposed on July 3.

The security forces have made no secret of launching a ferocious crackdown on Mursi’s Muslim Brotherhood, arresting its top leaders on charges of inciting political violence as well as around 2,000 other Islamists.

Many activists fear the army could turn its sights on other groups who worked for Mubarak’s overthrow in 2011 hoping to establish an open civilian democracy in Egypt.

“These are fake accusations,” rights lawyer Gamal Eid told Reuters. “(The complaint) is from people who know that it is false but who try to silence activists’ demands for the realisation of the demands of the revolution.”

Separately, a leftist lawyer accused of belonging to a secret organisation and spreading lies about the military appeared before military prosecutors in Suez, but was later released, judicial sources said.

Haitham Mohamedeen, a rights activist who belongs to the Revolutionary Socialist movement, a group critical of the army, was arrested in Suez on Thursday.

The accusations against him included belonging to a secret organisation with the aim of attacking state institutions and the military, a judicial source at the military prosecutor’s office in Suez said.

It was not clear whether the case against him had been dropped.

In another case, Egyptian journalist Ahmed Abu Deraa remained in detention after his arrest in North Sinai on Wednesday.

The military prosecutor accused him of spreading lies and giving military information to secret organisations, a source at the prosecutor’s office said.

“The detention of Ahmed Abu Deraa harks back to the Mubarak era, when journalists faced formidable obstacles reporting on military activity in the Sinai peninsula,” said Robert Mahoney, deputy director of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

A longtime grantee of the National Endowment for Democracy and other US democracy groups is a 34-year old Egyptian woman, Esraa Abdel-Fatah, who sprang to notoriety during the country’s pitched battle over the new constitution in December 2012.

She exhorted activists to lay siege to mosques and drag from pulpits all Muslim preachers and religious figures who supported the country’s the proposed constitution, just before it went to a public referendum.

The act of besieging mosques has continued ever since, and several people have died in clashes defending them.
Federal records show Abdel-Fatah’s NGO, the Egyptian Democratic Academy, received support from NED, MEPI and NDI, among other State Department-funded groups “assisting democracy”. Records show NED gave her organisation a one-year $75,000 grant in 2011.

We were told by the Americans that if we see big street protests that sustain themselves for a week, they will reconsider all current US policies towards the Muslim Brotherhood regime.

Abdel-Fatah is politically active, crisscrossing Egypt to rally support for her Al-Dostor Party, which is led by former UN nuclear chief Mohamed El-Baradei, the most prominent figure in the Salvation Front. She lent full support to the military takeover, and urged the West not call it a “coup”.

“June 30 will be the last day of Morsi’s term,” she told the press a few weeks before the coup took place.
