This is a very difficult logic to understand. May be UNP also can say they did not lose. Perhaps this is what the fight about. This what is called “Loketa parakase gederata maragathe”.
Our treasury has the sweat and blood of our workers including those of us sending remittances to motherland. It is sad to see that from the time of R. Premadasa all presidents use it as Micky Mouse money according to their whims and fancies celebrating birthdays and Deyata Kirula etc. There is noway to stop that.

  2. Christie Says:

Like other Socialists in the Island nation, the JVP is a creation of the Indian imperialists. In the recent Provincials (three of them) elections the Indian colonial parasites had a very sounding win. So it is definitely a JVP win.

  3. Fran Diaz Says:

The Cold War shaped the JVP. JVP went with the Eastern bloc (Moscow and later Peking wing per then leaders Rohana Wijeweera) and the UNP went west. The JVP leader thinking did not change even when the two main eastern bloc (Russia & China) countries changed. This rigid mind set has spelt the diminising of the JVP – simply not progressive with the times. Same with the Ranil led UNP, rigidly capitalistic. Ranil got rid of the grand co-operative system (the CWE) which act was not a good thing for Sri Lanka socio-economics. For a political party to be successful, they have to be successful with the socio-econoimcs of the country.

What happened to the wonderful ‘Dahasak Waw’ project mooted by the JVP ? That was one project that won the hearts and minds of all the people of Lanka.

About 15% of the businesses in USA are Co-ops and successful. The Mondragon Co-op system of Portugal is a success story too under the auspices of the Catholic church. The BBS should look into the Co-op System in a serious way and use the Buddhist temple land that is presently fallow for the purposes of growing organic Soy bean and convert the produce to Soy milk and Soy tvp delicious burghers with different delicious flavors to give a modern touch to t.v.p. That is a modern way to convert socialist thinking to practical every day needs.

Rioting in frustration is a useless and stupid thing to do, and will lead to the division of the country. If Sinhela Buddhists want to keep their country, then they have to take OWNERSHIP for the NEEDS of the country i.e. be Self Sufficient as far as possible. No other way.

Above stated with good intent. Comments welcome.

  4. Christie Says:

Come on. Wijeweera was hiding among Indian colonial parasites. Some of the bodyguards of the major leaders were Indian colonial parasites. These bodyguards was there to watch each and every movements of the so called Sinhala JVP leaders. Any move that was outside the Indian set parameters were the end of their entitlements and positions.
Even a lower level party organized was given house, a motorcycle, phones, a wage that was at least three times that of a labourer and all expenses paid. Could the the poor Sinhalese members who died support such expenses. Most of the Sinhalese kids who died came from villages surrounded by land occupied by Indian colonial parasites,

  5. Fran Diaz Says:

    Christie,

First time I heard of the Indian body guard thing for JVP, but not surprising. If it did happen that way, it was probably because at that time, India was running with the eastern bloc re political ideology. It is only now (with Russia in NATO & China 2nd largest trading partner of USA), that India is leaning westward. India looks after itself first.

However, it is true to say that all petty ‘revolutionists’ from Sri Lanka, if they have to run away, end up in India. V’perumal et al did just that.

  6. Indrajith Says:

Don’t forget that the present leader of JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe too left to India first through a fishing boat launched from Negombo. He then showed up in London, England but no details are available about how he came to UK. Most probably he must have taken routes in East Europen countries most of which were communist at that time.

  7. aloy Says:

Sahodarayas should not aid and abet the robbery of national wealth by unscrupulous politicians of all hues and shades. If our constitution does not have checks and balances on the president, then it should be changed. I hope it will happen after the next election. If it does not then the only answer is a house cleaning excercise by a patriotic Sri Lankan just like what Jerry Rowling of Ghana did. I hope and prey that will not be the case and the current leaders of both parties reform.

  8. aloy Says:

Sorry for the typo, “hope and pray”

  9. Lorenzo Says:

A house cleaning act is INEVITABLE now. I think people are NOT against it. New CEO should enforce MINIMUM changes on the common people at start. He should visit the Mahanayakas and agree to follow their guidance. He should have a good media team.

Suspending 1,000 politicians (225 in parliament and 750 in PCs, etc.) saves hell of a lot of money. People should see an immediate benefit. He should POOL and show how many vehicles the president and MPs, etc. were using. Take cameramen to Temple Trees, etc. and show people how luxurious lives the politicians had. Select professional to run a temporary parliament. Promise elections under a new constitution within 1 year. SCRAP 13 amendment. BAN racism in politics and racist demands.

I support army driven regime change. At least they have sacrificed for the country. They cannot be WORSE than politicians.

  10. Christie Says:

    Thanks Indrajit for the info.
Bothe terrorist groups are arms of the Indian Imperialists. One Indian colonial parasites (Tamils) the other the locals (mainly Sinhalese). Somawansa may have gone there in an Indian Diplomatic bag.

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

The present government (as all past governments) are victims of Colonisation & the Cold War and aftermath. Sinhela people must realise that first. For a small country such as Lanka, it is wonder that we are still surviving considering the onslaught by Colonists and cold war actors, still going on in a much more hidden and diluted fashion.

At present, all “Housecleaning” should happen at Grass Roots level more than anywhere. Grass Roots people have been trained into Dependency/Indifference/Subjugation during Colonial times, and the Cold War spoilt all our years of Independence.

Grass Roots have to, via BBS and other local organisations, start getting INDEPENDENT re the NEEDS OF PEOPLE (Economic independence). Right now minorities rule re Economic Needs. By hogging the Needs, Minorities make sure (consciously or unconsciously) that Sinhela people get ‘divorced’ from their leaders. While Colonisation is to be blamed for this Minority Rule disease, the Sinhela people have to now Move On. Changing governments is like ‘changing the pillow for the headache’. Instead, Sinhela people have to take charge of their Economy first and also get on with Governing their country properly.

Many really good Sinhela leaders have lost (JRJ government) out because the Sinhela Grass Roots people have not acted with Responsibility/Ownership for the Development and Needs of the country. Sinhela Grass Roots act as though Lanka is still a Colonised country ! This type of mindset is almost as bad as the mindset in the Tamil Caste system.

Wake up, Sinhela people of Lanka !

    Indrajith,

Let’s not forget that Karl Marx too ended up in London, UK !

Here is a short clip on Karl Marx :

Karl Heinrich Marx (German pronunciation: { 5 May 1818 – 14 March 1883) was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. Marx’s work in economics laid the basis for the current understanding of labour and its relation to capital, and has influenced much of subsequent economic thought.[4][5][6][7] He published numerous books during his lifetime, the most notable being The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867–1894).
Born into a wealthy middle-class family in Trier in the Prussian Rhineland, Marx studied at the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin, where he became interested in the philosophical ideas of the Young Hegelians. After his studies, he wrote for a radical newspaper in Cologne, and began to work out his theory of dialectical materialism. He moved to Paris in 1843, where he began writing for other radical newspapers and met Fredrick Engels, who would become his lifelong friend and collaborator. In 1849 he was exiled and moved to London together with his wife and children where he continued writing and formulating his theories about social and economic activity. He also campaigned for socialism and became a significant figure in the International Workingmen’s Association.
Marx’s theories about society, economics and politics – collectively known as Marxism – hold that human societies progress through class struggle: a conflict between an ownership class that controls production and a dispossessed labouring class that provides the labour for production. He called capitalism the “dictatorship of the bourgeoisie,” believing it to be run by the wealthy classes for their own benefit; and he predicted that, like previous socioeconomic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system: socialism. He argued that class antagonisms under capitalism between the bourgeoisie and proletariat would eventuate in the working class’ conquest of political power in the form of a dictatorship of the proletariat and eventually establish a classless society, socialism or communism, a society governed by a free association of producers.[8][9] Along with believing in the inevitability of socialism and communism, Marx actively fought for their implementation, arguing that social theorists and underprivileged people alike should carry out organised revolutionary action to topple capitalism and bring about socio-economic change”.

  13. Fran Diaz Says:

    Lorenzo,

Aha ! So merely owning land does not a Vellala make ! It takes a few generations to create a Vellala. So there we are, back to square one : there is a Caste problem among Tamil folk.

Re 1983 : I am after the truth of matters, in order to learn from the past, or else we will get caught to the same traps again and again, with same or similar players. I do hope you understand my intent. The truth has to be published. Anyone will know that the story is incomplete if unpleasant events and personalities are swept under the carpets.

Re the present GoSL : I am going on the strict definition of Government vs Parliament. Lanka GoSL is not made up of all those political parties you mention. The PARLIAMENT (which means GoSL plus Opposition) has a National flavor, but not the GoSL by itself. For example, the JVP & TNA have not joined the GoSL.

Also we have to have an educated PARLIAMENT. That is how Singapore (mainly Buddhist country) manages together with strong Laws in place. I guess that will happen some time in the future.

Let’s close this chapter. Thanks for input.
