TNA can do something positive for the Tamils of the North – for a change

It is rarely, if ever, that one gets a chance to read the Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) or those at the higher echelons of the TNA saying anything positive about what the Sri Lanka government is doing.

Sumanthiran is now reported to have said that the Parliamentary Select Committee is not the right mechanism to find solutions for Tamil people’s issues. The same report additionally mentions a political solution to the ethnic problem.

Peace-loving Sri Lankans have got tired of hearing the “ethnic problem” or the “Tamil people’s issues”, ad nauseum. It is long overdue for the TNA and its supporters to clearly spell out what these problems are. Without first identifying the problems, no one on earth can think of solutions.

In fact, many of the problems that the Tamils living in the North face today are of their own making. For a thirty year period, they overtly or covertly supported a megalomaniac who originated from the North and was hell bent on creating a mono-ethnic Eelam at any cost. In the process many Tamil lives – both young and old – were sacrificed and the infrastructure in the North was destroyed. The sleepers in the Northern railway were removed by him and his supporters to create bunkers and in the final stages of the war of liberation that the legal armed forces of the Sri Lanka government was compelled to undertake, the massive water tank at Killinochchi was destroyed by the LTTE.

The LTTE and its supporters abroad still have millions of dollars with them. As the money is not being spent at present on arms and explosives, it is being used to buy corrupt politicians, media persons and TV producers to give the LTTE’s version of what happened in Sri Lanka during the war. Readers were dished out “War without witnesses” by one of the western correspondents some time back, whereas the reports filed by the Indian Correspondent Muraly Reddy, who witnessed everything from the inside and who says that what he wrote could be despatched with no restriction whatsoever, are rarely mentioned by anyone.

It is time that the TNA stopped harping on the hackneyed themes of Tamil issues or Tamil problems. Instead of the money that is with the LTTE leaders who operate from the affluent countries being spent on politicians who are ready to sing for their supper, TNA could do well to get their colleagues to spend some of these millions of dollars in re-developing the North. Agricultural projects, food canning and garment factories are a few that appear feasible. Let the investors only employ Tamils, if that is what they want. Then, instead of spending a vast proportion, amounting to over 80%, of the budget of poor Sri Lanka in reconstruction of the North, as was done by the Sri Lanka government last year, such monies can be diverted to infrastructure development in the rest of the country.

The problem in Sri Lanka is that we have GIVEN TOO MUCH to a community with TOO LITTLE GRATITUDE.

To solve the this problem what we have to do is…
    1. Make Sinhalese the one and only national language (Tamil should have its rightful place in Sri Lanka as a MINORITY LANGUAGE)
    2. Abolish the 13th Amendment
    3. Ban the TNA
    4. Repatriate those who voted for the TNA to Toilet Nadu along with those who celebrated Mahabooru Day
    5. Have all education in Sinhalese to stop the infamous “cheating”
    6. Settle Sinhalese in the NE and redraw the provincial boundaries so that no province has a Minority-Majority syndrome

  2. Fran Diaz Says:

We agree with Asada & mjaya.

Add : Deport ALL illegal migrants. There are hundreds and thousands of them in Sri Lanka.
Add: Sri Lanka has to stay Non-Aligned, always. Otherwise the people of Lanka gets mashed up, as in the past.
    Add: Activate the 6-A.

Note: INDIAN ELECTIONS in 2014 may drag Lanka into Indian problems such as Tamil Nadu Caste/poverty and distractions to deny it. Avoid involvement in TN problems.

    Tough problems need tough action.

An Indian passport holder arrested at Pooneryn on Sunday afternoon for taking pictures of troops was brought to Colombo for questioning.

A senior security official alleged that the South Indian identified as Thamil Prabhakaran was a close associate of Illankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) Jaffna district MP Sivagnanam Sritharan.

The official said that at the time the suspect was taken into custody he had an Indian passport bearing the number MK 6149374. Responding to a query, the official said that the suspect claimed he was a journalist in spite of being here on a tourist visa. The arrest was made shortly after Prabhakaran took pictures of a push cycle patrol.

    MP Sritharan couldn’t be contacted.

The suspect had taken over 50 photographs of army deployment in the Northern Province and was believed to planning to propagate anti-Sri Lanka sentiments in Tamil Nadu.

Prabhakaran has written a series of articles titled ‘Searching for footsteps of Tigers’ for Tamil Nadu magazine, Junior Vikatan. A book was also published under the same title recently.

With the next session of the Geneva based United Nations Human Rights Council scheduled for March next year, those whipping up Eelam propaganda and anti-Sri Lanka sentiments in Tamil Nadu would step up their campaign targeting Sri Lanka, Defence Ministry sources said.

  5. Ananda-USA Says:

These CHALLENGES to the Authority of the GOSL, which allowed the TNA to gain control of the Northern Province, instead of REPEALING the Foreign Imposed 13th Amendment and DISMANTLING the Provincial Council System, WILL NOT END HERE but will CONTINUE as long as the Provincial Council System exists and the Tamil Separatists HOPES of a SEPARATE STATE are kept alive.

We WARNED the GOSL of what will happen; this is JUST THE TIP of the Eelamist Iceberg that will ATTEMPT TO SINK Sri Lanka!

The ONLY WAY to END THIS and Achieve PEACE & SECURITY for ALL People of Sri Lanka, is to DEMOLISH these HOPES and make the Eelamists FEEL HOPELESS!

Northern Province surveys: NO GO FOR BOGUS CENSUS

*Surveys conducted by dept. on par with international norms
*Attempt to conduct alternate survey illegal, unacceptable

Census and Statistics Department Director General D.C.A. Gunawardena yesterday said that no organization other than the Department of Census and Statistics is authorized to carry out surveys or a census of persons, in the Northern Province.

Gunawardena’s comments came in the wake of the Tamil National Alliance’s (TNAs) announcement that ‘an alternate survey on human and property damage in the Northern Province during the 30 year conflict’ will be conducted by their representatives.

He said that his department is empowered by law to conduct surveys on any subject in the country, including the North as and when necessary, and that the surveys by non-state actors are illegal and will not be acceptable.

“Various persons and entities are trying to conduct surveys contrary to accepted norms and practices”, he said, adding that the surveys conducted by his department are strictly as per international norms and practices.

He added that special permission has to be sought from the Presidential Task Force on Northern Development, if an organization intends to conduct a survey in the Northern Province.

The Department has started an islandwide census to assess the human and property damage caused during nearly three-decades of conflict.

The nationwide survey is a key recommendation of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). Meanwhile, Public Administration Ministry Secretary P.B. Abeykoon said his ministry has mobilized Grama Niladharis and other government officials at village level to conduct this survey efficiently and accurately. The first legal sanction in Sri Lanka provided under the Census Ordinance was granted in 1968 on the lines of the English law for the conduct of the first Census in 1871.

This was amended in 1880 and repealed in 1900. A new Ordinance was drafted thereafter on the lines of the Indian Census Act and was passed by the Legislature. The Census

Ordinance of 1900 substantially remained the basis for census taking in Sri Lanka throughout the years, with minor amendments in 1945, 1955, 1980 and 2000.

    Ananda,

“Census and Statistics Department Director General D.C.A. Gunawardena yesterday said that no organization other than the Department of Census and Statistics is authorized to carry out surveys or a census of persons, in the Northern Province.”

    LOL!!

    Can he stop that? NO!

And which census the international community and TAMIL B***H’S UNHRC will trust? TNA census!

Do you still think this rotten system can correct itself? NO, Ananda, NO.

Nearing the UNHRC March 2014, TNA antics will INCREASE.

Even if you DISAGREE with a military take over, SUPPORT IT to put pressure on these jokers.
