Three wanted criminals and hardcore LTTE cadres, including Kajeeban Ponniah Selvanayagam alias Gobi, who were leading attempts to revive the now essentially defunct LTTE with the support of the overseas based pro-Tiger Tamil diaspora were killed during a confrontation with the security forces in the jungles off Padaviya yesterday.
“Two of the dead have been identified as Sundaralingam Kajeepan alias Thevihan, and Selvanayagam Kajeepan alais Gobi. The third body is yet to be identified, but is believed to be that of Navaratnam Navaneethan alias Appan. Judicial inquiry into this incident is in progress”, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya Director / Spokesman Media Centre, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development said.
Defence authorities were on the lookout for the trio of LTTE suspects for sometime, as they had a history of having engaged in several subversive acts. The Police had announced a Rs, 1 million reward for any information that leads to their whereabouts.

Explaining the operation to arrest the three, Brigadier Wanigasooriya spoke of “an attempt for resurgence of terrorism in Sri Lanka that surfaced in the general area of Pallai in the Jaffna Peninsula. The information on several key suspects who were leading the campaign also surfaced. Investigators made several arrests that led to recovery of arms, ammunitions, explosives and other material that were in their possession. It was also revealed that this local group was functioning under the instructions of LTTE leaders Nediyawan and Vinayagam who are based in Europe.
They were preparing the ground for another armed campaign”.
Brigadier Wanigasoriya went on to say that investigators trailing these local leaders had made several arrests of second and third tier cadres and in one attempt Gobi escaped after shooting and injuring a policeman on March 13 when a team of officers swooped in on the house he was hiding.
“The volume of information that came pouring from the peace loving local public who did not approve of any attempt of resurgence of the LTTE helped investigations in a large measure. The general area where the three leaders, Thevihan, Gobi and Appan were hiding was identified.
On March 10, 2014 troops in a search operation in the jungle area off Padaviya recovered four back-packs containing rations, medicine, clothes, etc. believed to be used by the suspects.
The identified area was surrounded. In the early hours of April 11, 2014 the three armed suspects who attempted to escape the area confronted the troops in the cordon,” he added.
Brigadier Wanigasooriya explained that the immediate objectives of the local group included the recovery of ‘war like material’ dumped by the LTTE during retreat, re-establishment of LTTE intelligence network, regrouping of the potential cadre including those rehabilitated, and collecting information on potential targets including in other provinces.
He noted that investigations revealed that the funds for these activities which came from Europe were being transferred using Hawala system which is an illegal method of money transfer widely used in the subcontinent.
“It was also revealed that many safe houses, vehicles and other resources required for resurgence of the LTTE had been procured by them using this money. Three local leaders in the attempted resurgence of the LTTE were identified as Sundaralingam Kajeepan alias Thevihan (who was involved in aerial attacks on Anuradhapura Air Base and Kollonnawa Petroleum Storage in year 2007), Selvanayagam Kajeepan alias Gobi, Navarathnam Navaneethan alias Appan.

Our Defense Forces should have called Ms. Navi Pillai – the Commissioner UNHRC; Mr. John Kerry – the Secretary of State USA; Mr. Camorren – The British Prime Minister; Mr. Stephen Harper – The Prime Minister of Canada and accompanied by Mr. MaCcray – The Official Photographer for this Co, Inc. to “Observe and Watch” this OPERATION. If that was done we would have shown how “TRANSPARENT” and “ACCOUNTABLE” we are in eradicating terrorism from our country.
Anyway, don’t worry there would be more operations of this type and we will remember to invite these “GUARDIANS OF HUMAN RIGHTS” and they need not worry of “international Investigations”, because they themselves can observe it and if need “study” it for their own benefit.
Another request to our “GUARDIANS”, The Defense Establishment: Please do not ever think of “REHABILITATION” of terrorists. Just get rid of them as done in this instance. If anyone wants “TRANSPARENCY” and “ACCOUNTABILITY”. he.she or they can come and watch our operations.

Sri Lanka Army says wanted LTTE suspect Gopi shot dead

Apr 11, Colombo: The wanted LTTE suspect Ponniah Selvanayagam Kajeeban alias Gopi was among the three LTTE operatives killed by the Sri Lankan security forces in a clash last night in Vavuniya, the military spokesman has confirmed.
Earlier reports said the security forces in a search operation for the wanted LTTE suspect Gopi had clashed with suspected LTTE operatives Thursday night in the Vedivachchikallu in Nedunkerni, Welioya, Nadunkarni area of Vavuniya.
Three LTTE operatives were killed during the shootout between the army soldiers and the suspects when the soldiers surrounded the suspects’ hideout. Earlier reports said a soldier was also killed.
“The three suspects were identified as Gobi, Appan, and Thevian. Judicial inquiry is being held at the scene of the shooting,” Army spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya was quoted in local media as saying.
The security personnel have recovered arms, ammunition, explosives and other material from the hideout, the spokesman has added.

Redress for 423 Individuals Linked to Terror in Lanka

The Sri Lankan military today said legal redress would be available to the 423 individuals, including 32 Sri Lankans currently residing in India, who were designated as financiers of terrorism in the country.
Sri Lanka last week banned the LTTE and 15 other key Tamil diaspora groups for their alleged terror links and prohibited its nationals from making any contacts with them.
Some 423 individuals, including 32 Sri Lankans presently residing in India, were listed as members of the banned LTTE and its offshoots and as financiers of terrorism.
“These individuals have been only designated not banned. If they have an issue with it they have the option of resorting to legal redress,” Defence Ministry spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said.
“They may even win de-listing if the court deemed our action to be flawed,” he said.
A politician from the North had asked the Sri Lankan government as to why it took so long to designate these individuals if it had the evidence against them.
Responding to the remark, Wanigasooriya said: “This was because of his ignorance. These things cannot be done overnight. We have to go through a complex process of verification before any action could be taken.”
Sri Lankan Defence Ministry has said it would now be requesting foreign governments to take action against the designated groups and individuals as per the UN Security Council resolution 1373 which is binding on all states.
New York-based rights group Human Rights Watch has flayed the move. It said the decision to label the LTTE and 15 overseas Tamil groups as financiers of terrorism is so broad that it appears to be aimed at restricting peaceful activism by the country’s Tamil minority.
“The Sri Lankan government is using vague counter terrorism regulations to tie the major diaspora Tamil groups to the ruthless but defunct LTTE,” Asia director at Human Rights Watch Brad Adams said.
“This broad-brush sanction could then be used to punish local Tamil activists and politicians with international ties.”

Arrested LTTE leader being interrogated by Sri Lankan authorities

Apr 10, Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities are interrogating an overseas leader of the defeated Tamil Tiger terrorist organization, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) arrested recently when he entered the country.
Sri Lanka’s Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) of police is questioning the senior LTTE leader Nathagoopan who was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport three weeks ago while entering the country after his deportation from Malaysia.
Nathagoopan was reportedly operating as one of the two deputy leaders of the LTTE’s overseas operations under the command of Perinbanayagam Sivaparan alias Nediyavan.
He was arrested by the Malaysian authorities for using a forged passport and served six months in a Malaysian jail. Malaysian authorities have deported him to Sri Lanka following the end of his sentence, Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
Nathagoopan was in charge of LTTE’s media division and has fled the country when the war ended, according to the police spokesman.

Top UK diplomat in Sri Lanka intervenes in drug peddling case

The Deputy High Commissioner at the British mission in Colombo had said a suspect was an informant to one of Britain’s officers in India.
The interest shown by a British diplomat in Colombo, in what seems to be a high-profile case of drug trafficking involving suspects from at least three countries, has raised eyebrows here.
On April 3, the Deputy High Commissioner at the British mission in Colombo sought an appointment with the Inspector-General of Police N.K. Illangakoon to discuss a recent heroin seizure. The diplomat had said a suspect arrested in connection with the case was an informant to one of Britain’s officers in India.
When The Hindu asked the British High Commission for a response, officials there declined to comment.
Confirming that the British mission sought a meeting with him, Mr. Illangakoon said: “Since the investigation is not complete, I told them I would prefer to meet them once it is over.”
It all began on March 6 when Sri Lankan Customs officials confiscated 35 kg of heroin at the Colombo harbour. Soon after, they handed over the case to the narcotics wing for further investigation, Mr. Illangakoon said on Wednesday.
Less than two weeks into the probe, police arrested three persons in connection with the case — a Pakistani national visiting Sri Lanka, a Canadian citizen of Sri Lankan origin, and a Sri Lankan national.
On March 18, police arrested the Pakistani national, then in Kandy, on charges of drug peddling. The drug consignment seized, Mr. Illangakoon said, was in the suspect’s name.
The following day, the police arrested the Canadian citizen on charges of aiding the Pakistani national escape to Kandy. The two were frequent visitors to Sri Lanka, according to the senior police official. “We are looking for some more suspects, we have almost cracked the case,” Mr. Illangakoon said.
While links between the British mission here, one of the suspects – the one said to be the informant to an officer in India – and the prime suspect remain unclear, the Inspector General maintained they had “sufficient evidence” to question the suspect in connection with this case.

“Police have arrested three youths for the possession of explosive devices in the South Bar coastal region in Mannar.
The explosives were discovered by officers from the Mannar Police Station upon searching the individuals who were behaving in a suspicious manner.
Police said that 36 sticks of dynamite and 14 detonators were found in the possession of the suspects, who are residents of Mannar.
They were released on bail after being produced before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court.”

By now they must be on a boat to seek refuge in Australia, all expenses paid by the “Diaspora”. The Human Rights Activists would represent their case and bring it up at world forums.
It could have been best handled to be reported this way: “A struggle brandishing arms ensued to escape and the Police shot and killed all three in self defense. Fr. Emmanuel in the company of Rev. Joseph Raiappu were present to say RIP and Amen”.

Using this as evidence the military presence in the northern and eastern provinces must be increased. The UN fully notified of the re emergence of LTTE., The SIS should investigate if there is any connection to LTTE supporters in Tamil Nadu.
New regulations of identification of all people should be created. Similar to the Social security system and drivers license system of the US.
The 13th amendment must be brought up as a threat to the nation’s integrity.
