Hon. John Baird, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs
Hon. Deepak Obhrai, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs
Hon. Lynne Yelich, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs
House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario:

Dear John, and Deepak and Lynne:

“Ouch!” I know…I know Canada. I know how difficult and embarrassing it is when your governing parties act like a bunch of goody-two-shoes, brazenly going after puny Sri Lanka with hockey sticks and baseball bats, when little Sri Lanka deals with their internal affairs to correct what they think is their right according to their Constitution, but our Canadian government disagrees and pokes its nose in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. And the Sri Lankan populace hollers out at you, Canada, saying, “Canada, who the hell do you think you are, poking your nose into our internal affairs. Go and mind your own bloody business!”

And then one finds out that Canada does the same thing which they went after the puny Sri Lanka with hockey sticks and baseball bats and try to harass and beat up its Government to pulp. I know it places you Canada as an arrogant and a politically-vulgar, senior Commonwealth high school bully, who has lost its credibility with its policy dealing with Sri Lanka and in turn isolated you among other sane nations. All this embarrassment for the want of a Tamil vote in the Greater Toronto Area at the next federal elections.   Shish….not kosher, is it?

John, Deepak and Lynne, what’s all this then that I read in The Ottawa Citizen and the Ottawa Sun.“PM used intimidation, Mulcair says (May 6)”.

NDP leader criticizes attack on chief justice.   The Conservative government faced accusations Monday of trying to intimidate Canada’s top judges, as whether a Supreme Court chief justice can talk to the government about judicial appointments spilled into the House of Commons.

“The attorney general’s job is to defend the integrity of the court system in our country, not to help the prime minister attack the chief justice,” continued Tom Mulcair in parliament.

John and Deepak and Lynne, remember how you all went after the Sri Lankan Government for impeaching Sri Lanka’s Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Shirani Bandaranayake not long ago.    Hmmmm…… interesting isn’t it! What a hilarious song and dance it was!

On the same page of The Ottawa Citizen, columnist Andrew Coyne says, “Harper’s reckless smear of Canada’s top judge. Watching the Harper government stumble from one needless controversy to another – picking fights, settling scores, demeaning institutions and individuals alike in a pursuit of no discernible principle or even political gain – one has had the distinct impression of a government, and a prime minister, spinning out of control.

“But with the prime minister’s astonishing personal attack last week on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Beverly McLachlin, the meltdown has reached Lindsy Lohanesque proportion.”

All this, John, Deepak and Lynne, reduces you all to a laughing stock among the Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Ministers. I can well imagine all of them telling under their breath, “So these are the uppity Canadians who keep telling us how to run our country. And not to impeach our Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, when the Government had reason to do so according to the Constitution of what transpired with her while in office. What a bunch of bullies and we couldn’t care a tuppence as to what they say. We don’t even care if they crawl on their knees to their Tamil constituents seeking their votes. We will get on with our lives and try to do the best for our peoples having eliminated the ‘Made in India’ terrorist curse, the Tamil Tigers, to bring about normalcy to their lives after the debilitating 30 year Tamil Separatist War.”

So there you are John and Deepak and Lynne.   It’s time that John retires his Tamil ‘thunai-lakadi-thantha-lakadi’– jig dancing sandals which he uses at every international forum  to perform his song and dance act kicking Sri Lanka.   And you Deepak should invest $5 on a map of Sri Lanka to find out the thousands of neutral spots to lay wreaths for the minority Tamils who died in the Eelam war, other than Elephant Pass which you thought was a neutral spot where the Tamil Tigers attacked the government army camp thrice and killed hundreds of Sinhalese soldiers from the majority community. And you, Lynne, be careful not to let NDPs Rathika Sitsabaeisan make you look a fool dragging you into her “I will bury Sri Lanka by hook or by crook” campaign and agenda. She certainly got you all working for her cause during her visit to Jaffna visiting Tamil Tiger terrorist supporters. I only hope that her NDP leader Tom Mulcair reined her in and rapped her knuckles for embarrassing him, his party, as well as Canada.

Sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe

  1. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

There an estimated 200 thousand Tamils in Canada. Canada’s population is 35 million. That means the Tamil population is less than 1%. It is miniscule. Considering other Asian populations in Canada it is surprising that Canada takes the opinion of a population that only makes some difference in some major cities of Canada. The number of Sinhalese in Canada is not even mentioned.

But if the Tamil expats in Canada are only 200 thousand and they have arrived to that nation only recently then the motivation of Canadian politicians to demonize Sri Lanka is greater than the influence exerted by the Tamils. Canada has an agenda with Sri Lanka outside of her Tamil population.

If that is the case then who gains the most in demonizing Sri Lanka outside of the expat Tamils? the only conclusion that I can come up is India herself. India and not Chennai trained and supported the Tamil Tigers for most of the war. It was New Delhi that had a proxy war with Colombo using the Tamil Tigers for eventual aim of gaining control of key harbors in Sri Lanka and by that an unfettered claim to the Indian ocean.

India failed the war but she was the only nation to push and sign the two human rights resolutions drafted by the US and the UNHRC. Only when India realized that the UK was demanding a comprehensive international investigation to be done on Sri Lanka did India abstain. India abstained to save her abysmal human rights record on similar lines. Her military has gone passed human rights violations in the state of Kashmir. An article in the Asia Times opens up the details of so many atrocities commited on the state of Kashmir to the extent the article claims not a single Kashmiri family is free from the brutal acts of the Indian military. The article terms these acts as “crimes against humanity”

The very last thing India needed was a British sponsored comprehensive international investigation where Colombo has demanded the entire war be investigated if this request is implemented. India balked and decided to abstain. Had it gone through India would have been implicated in her actions in Sri Lank and opened the door wide open for further investigations of her military actions in various parts of India itself.

India and not the Canadian Tamils have the clout to persuade the Canadian government to keep the human rights pressure on Colombo.

    Excellent news IF true!

“The occupying Sinhala military appropriating thousands of acres of land of displaced Eezham Tamils around Palaali and in both sides of the Koddiyaaram Bay in Trincomalee, including Champoor; erecting fenced enclaves; building harbours, airports and infrastructure facilities such as power stations within the enclaves and the occupying military operating industries and ‘tourism’ within the enclaves, are clear evidences for Colombo building new Sinhala military-political-commercial capitals in the country of Eezham Tamils.”

Only a LARGE SCALE DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE can save Tamils from racist Tamil homeland nonsense. Force Tamils to integrate or die.

  3. jayasiri Says:

Thank you all finally things are happening to normalze the living of all lankans in Palali & Nothern cities. It is time Military continue the excellent work done in prviding employment to civil citizens of northern Sri Lanka.

With commercial & furher development of the North, Sinhalese can also take a breadth to feel happy that finally some good news is coming their way to most people in the North including Tamills.

OUR next project should be to GET BACK Wellawatte as it is a small JAFFNA. All Sinhalese residents have moved out to further interior in Sri Lanka, while Tamils OCCUPY the sea side bungalows & living quarters they have never seen in their lives in NORTH. One postal officer in a post office asked me to go to find Sinhalese friends in WELLAWATE. In the past if a Tamil makes fun of Colombo Sinhalese that person WOULD BE IN DANGER without question.

That is what is happening in Colombo & suburbs. Some expat Tamils even do no want to visit Sri Lanka to BUY prme land, they just ask a LAWYER to do everything TILL they slowly move & occupy the MOST VALUABLE properties in Colombo district.

Not only military should clear & occupy Northern cities & town if Urban Dveelopment Authority can find a way to MOVE ALL IILLEGALS, Tamils & Mulims, DRUG DEALERS from the City, that would please the majority race so well. Time to move all industries from Colombo, and together Tamils & Mulims. THEN all these problems of illegals & undesirables in Colombo will be gone.
Col. Gotabhaya ‘s NEXT move should be that for Sinhalese to live pecefully in their MOTHERLAND……..J

  4. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

I suggest that the BBS set up places for the Buddhist people to hear what ails them in these regions. It could range from a lack of medical facilities, security, food, education, sanitation, forest conservation, ways to grow a vegetable garden, home remedies for simple ailments such as an injury or bee sting, welfare of girls, welfare of the old, water needs, how to prevent water born diseases by boiling it first etc. These are issues central to the ordinary Buddhist person in Sri Lanka.

Often Colombo is good at big projects but makes a mess on the details. There is an old Chinese saying “A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step”. With each satisfied Buddhist person is also a grateful person. There is too much corruption in Colombo. Not because people are bad, but because these people have known unlimited power for too long. The Buddhist Sanga is tempered by the teachings of the Buddha which the political leaders in Colombo give lip service. Here lies the difference and here lies how to wean the people from Colombo and back to the leadership of the Buddhist Sanga.

  5. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

Second comment: If others of the Christian, Hindu, or Muslim faith seek the Buddhist Sanga for help, then give it to them in the same compassionate manner as given to the Buddhists but with one twist. Since they are NOT seeking the advice from their own religious leaders then they are conducive to also learn the wisdom of the Buddha and “choose” to leave their alien faiths for Buddhism

Again this is a time honored practice of the Muslims and Christians. Buddhists too have done this with no ulterior motives. If a Christian, Muslim or Hindu finds that the Buddhist Sanga treats them equally and addresses their problems where their own religious leaders or Political leaders fail, then it is the logical choice that they also learn about Buddhism when they receive help. The missionaries routinely do this in the far corners of the world.

UK war crimes are investigated by ICC. Nothing will happen because UK has already BRIBED ICC.

The International Criminal Court has reopened a preliminary investigation into claims that UK forces abused detainees in Iraq between 2003 and 2008, after new allegations were submitted.

“The new information… alleges the responsibility of officials of the United Kingdom for war crimes involving systematic detainee abuse in Iraq from 2003 to 2008,” Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said in a statement released by the Hague-based ICC.

In January, the Berlin-based European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, alongside Birmingham-based Public Interest Lawyers (PIL), filed documents alleging torture.

It was alleged that prisoners had been threatened with rape, death, were sexually assaulted and were additionally forcefully exposed to “pornography and sexual acts between soldiers.”

Alleged systematic abuse committed by members of the UK’s armed forces has been categorically denied by the British government.

“The government completely rejects the allegation that there was systematic abuse carried out by the British armed forces in Iraq,” Attorney General Dominic Grieve told the BBC.

In January, the UK government insisted that it would fight any bids to trigger prosecution stemming from complaints made to the ICC.

Human rights lawyers slammed the activities of British soldiers, saying they had constructed their complaints from the cases of more than 400 Iraqis who, according to them, represent “thousands of allegations of mistreatment amounting to war crimes of torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.”

“Based on an initial assessment of the information received, the January-10 2014 communication provides further information that was not available to the Office in 2006,” said the ICC statement.

Bensouda is yet to decide whether a comprehensive investigation is to be launched.

In 2006, a previous probe fell at the first hurdle as the chief prosecutor at the time, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, stated there was not enough evidence.

Grieve said that he would fully cooperate with the ICC to illustrate that “British justice is following its proper course.” ”

    VERY ENCOURAGING DEVELOPMENT!

The ban on 16 Tamil Diaspora organisations and 425 individuals deemed to be pro-Tamil Tiger, which was imposed by the Sri Lankan government in March under UN Security Council Resolution 1373, has begun to split these organisations and scare away individuals from them, a source close to the Lankan security establishment told Express on Tuesday.

“Colombo has been sending to various countries, dossiers on the designated organisations and individuals about their terrorism-related financial transfers, to enable action under UNSC Resolution 1373 of 2001,” the source said. He maintained that countries are duty-bound to act on the Lankan request because Resolution 1373 says that “States should afford one another the greatest measure of assistance for criminal probes or criminal proceedings relating to the financing or support of terrorist acts and prevent the movement of terrorists or their groups by effective border controls as well.”

While political leaders in the West and Tamil Nadu may criticise the ban, the security agencies there are taking the Lankan demand very seriously, the source maintained and this is taking its toll. The arrest of Nandagopan, the Norway-based LTTE leader Nediyavan’s second-in-command, in Iran in March, has weakened Nediyavan’s group.

There is a “remarkable drop” in public participation in the activities of the designated organisations, the source said. “Where earlier 300 or more Tamils used to attend a meeting, only a few dozen turn up since designation. The main reason for this is that Tamil expats do not want to be banned from entering Lanka,” he said.”
