බුදු රදුන් රාහුල පුතු ළමා කාලයේදීම මහණ කලේ මන්ද ?

වෛද්‍ය රුවන් එම් ජයතුංග
බුදු රදුන් රාහුල පුතු ළමා කාලයේදීම මහණ කලේ විශේශ හේතුවක් නිසා බව මම සිතමි. රාහුල පුතුට තරමක් වැඩිහිටි දිවියට පත්වී මහණ වීමට හැකියාව තිබුනද ළමා කාලයේදීම මහණ කලේ ඉදිරි කාලයේ එන දේශපාලන වාතාවරණය අහිතකර වන බව බුදුන්ට වැටහීම නිසාය. සුදාවුන් රජුගෙන් පසු රාහුල ශාක්‍ය ජනපදයේ සිහසුනට උරුමක්කාරයා විය. නමුත් ඒ වන විට ශාක්‍ය ජනපදයේ අවුල් වියවුල් හටගෙන තිබුණි. විඩූඩභ ශාක්‍ය වංශිකයන් සමූලඝාතනය කිරීමට අර අඳිමින් සිටියේය. ඉදිරි අනාගතයේ විඩූඩභ විසින් සිදු කරන ජන ඝාතනය පිළිබඳ අවබෝධයෙන් සිටි බුදු රදුන් විඩූඩභ ගේ කඩුවට මුලින්ම ගොදුරු වන්නේ ශාක්‍ය ජනපදයේ සිහසුනට උරුමක්කාරයා බව වටහා ගත්තේය. එම නිසා ළදරු රාහුලව මහණ කරවා ඔහුගේ ජීවිතය සුරක්‍ෂිත කලේය
මේ දේශපාලන වාතාවරණය ගැන අවබෝදයක් නොතිබුණු සුදාවුන් රජුට රාහුල මහණ කිරීම ළමා මහණ කිරීමක් බඳු විය. විඩූඩභ ගේ ශාක්‍ය සංහාරය එළැඹි විට එය වැලැක්වීමට බුදු රදුන් තෙවරක් උත්සහ ගත් නමුත් ශාක්‍යයන් රෝහිනී නදියට විස මුසු කොට ජනයා මරා දැමූ නිසා විඩූඩභට ශාක්‍යන් සමූලඝාතනය කිරීමට අනෙකුත් ජනපදවල සහයද ලැබුණි. විඩූඩභ ශාක්‍යන් සංහාර කොට මහා ගංවතුරකට යටවී මලේය. බුදු රදුන් රාහුල පුතු ළමා කාලයේදීම මහණ කළ නිසා ඔහුට රජ උරුමය පිළිබඳ අාශාවක් ඇති නොවීය. බුදු සසුනේ සිටි නිසා ශාක්‍ය ජනපදයේ සිහසුනට උරුමක්කාරයාගේ දිවි ගැලවිණ.

It is always Wisdom first for the Buddha ! that is why he brought Prince Rahula to join the Sasana.
We suggest that Meditation be taught in all schools. Simple Ana Paana Sathi ought to be a good start. Meditation brings many, many, benefits, both Mental & Physical. A sane world would be beautiful after all the strife. As a Buddhist country, Lanka can set a wonderful example to the entire now confused world. Add Free birth control material, and we have a winning combination.
Sports could be a good outlet for the energetic. MR govt built a number of stadiums for that very purpose.

I am not sure the writer knows that Arahant Rahuha passed away to Parinibbaana sometime before Buddha did.

ශාක්‍යයන් ඒ සා මහත් ඉරණමකට ලක් වුයේ පෙර කරන ලද පාප කර්මයක් නිසාද? එසේ නම් බුදු රජුන් එය වැලක්වීමට උත්සාහ කලේ මන්ද? බුදු රජුන් ගේ මහා බල පරාක්‍රමයට වඩා පෘතග්ජන විඩූඩභ බලවත් වුයේ කෙසේද ? බුදු රජුන් තම පුතු ( සිදුහත්ගේ පුතු )කෙරෙහි පමණක් කරුණාව උපදවා උපාය මගින් ඔහු බේරා ගත්තේ බුද්ධත්වයෙන් පසුවත් පිය-පුතු (කෙලෙස්) සබදතාවය නිසාද? වෛද්‍ය රුවන් ගේ මෙම අදහස තරමක විසංවාදයක් මතු කරයි. වෙස්සන්තර රජු දරුවන් කෙරෙහි ඇති බැඳීම දුරු කලේ බුදු වීමේ අදිටනින් මිස ඔහුන් කෙරෙහි කරුණාව නොමැතිව නොවේ.

This is what we were taught as youngsters in school :
Queen Yasodara sent her young son to the Buddha to ask for the ‘dayadha’ (dowry or gift, of sorts).
Our interpretation of the Buddha’s act : The Buddha ordained his young son as that was what he could offer as the best ‘dayadha’. An act of high Wisdom by the Buddha.
With new knowledge of situations in those times, we think : Not only did teh Buddha save his young son from acts of war, but he also gave him the highest gift possible.

Interesting speculation, reminds me of Martin Wickramasinghe’s contribution to discussion on the culture and background to the times in the book ‘Bhava Tharanaya’, a ‘must read’ for all Buddhists in my opinion. I recently asked a ‘Bhanthe’ [Thera ]of English origin who had spent a long time in Sri Lanka’s Aranyas whether he would like to play a major role in teaching in a Sunday school for children in UK. He thought for a while and gave his considered opinion that it is not possible to provide a worthwhile education at a young age; he thought Buddhist philosophical bent would only come through the struggles of life.
