Attention International Community: “We want homes, not merging of North-East” says Tamils

The question to the International Community is this. Is the voice of the TNA separatist elements more important than the Tamil people who just want to rebuild their lives, educate their children and live with the rest of the communities together in Sri Lanka? Where has a pen demarcating and dividing territory based on ethnicity or religion worked especially when there is no historical basis to claim homeland or self-determination? Is the world going to listen to a handful of power hungry politicians or the will of the people? When the people are saying they wish to live together why are others wanting to create divisions which goes contrary to the peace, reconciliation, unity and other buzzwords being promoted by these very parties over the years.

When international agencies preach togetherness and unity it is quite strange that they are totally silent on the TNA Northern Provincial Council passing illegal resolutions demanding the merger of the north-east when there is no historical right to do so. http://www.adaderana.lk/news/35093/notice-issued-on-vigneswaran-over-npc-proposal

We must again remind all that the Eastern Province was under the Kandyan Kingdom and never part of the North while the North was a sub-kingdom under the Emperor of Ceylon. The island nation of Sinhale (now called Sri Lanka) always had only one leader/king/emperor. The historical writings of Portuguese, Dutch and British will reveal that all Tamils were referred to as Malabars (even the Thesavalamai law mentions it is for Malabars) and the term Ceylon Tamils was used for the first time in 1911 only. Therefore there is absolutely no claim to demand self-determination, self-rule, autonomy and the homeland notion is also a total farce if the international community reads the historical evidence that will reveal Sinhalese were living in the North before Malabars came from India.

Devolution hasn’t helped the people as can be seen by the failure of the provincial council systems that has prevailed since 1987 following the signing of the Indo-Lanka Accord and the introduction of the 13th amendment under threatening influence of India.

Though 36 of the 37 subjects have been devolved the performance of these provinces have poor records in the 36 subject areas devolved. TNA has never utilized the funds they have requested from the Centre though TNA has all the time to go globetrotting demanding police and land powers which have not been devolved for national security reasons. The arrest of a TNA youth leader Sivakaran is just one reason why police & land powers should never be devolved. http://www.island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=144355

Additionally the international community must also take note that some of the people who are supposed to have been ‘forcibly disappeared & made missing’ are suddenly emerging alive too. This is a major jolt to all the sensationalized stories that human rights groups and various others have been making since 2009. It would be good for foreign nations to seriously look at how many of these ‘disappeared’ are living in their own nations living off welfare handouts that should go to deserving people.

Wijayarathnam Surendram :

TNA WANTS TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY, MERGE THE NORTH-EAST.

WE DON’T WANT THIS. IT WILL ONLY LEAD TO ANOTHER CONFLICT.

WE NOW NEED HOUSES TO LIVE MORE THAN MERGING PROVINCES.

IF ANOTHER CONFLICT STARTS WE WILL AGAIN GO BACKWARDS.

WE CAN’T ALLOW OUR CHILDREN TO BE SACRIFICED AGAIN. MANY CHILDREN HAVE DIED. ANOTHER LOT CAN’T SUFFER SAME FATE.

WE ARE NOW ONE NATION. WE WANT TO LIVE IN PEACE WITH THE OTHER COMMUNITIES IN SRI LANKA.

SINHALESE FROM COLOMBO SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO COME TO THE NORTH. WE MUST ALL EAT, DRINK AND LIVE HAPPILY TOGETHER.

WE ALSO LIKE TO GO SOUTH AND EAT, DRINK AND BE WITH THE OTHER COMMUNITIES. WE MUST ALL LIVE TOGETHER.

FOR ANYTHING SINHALESE & TAMILS MUST UNITE AND BE HAPPY. THIS IS WHAT WE WANT.

A S J S Jayasri:

FOR 16 YEARS THE TNA HAS FOOLED THE PEOPLE AND WON ELECTIONS.

THE TNA DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO JOIN ANY GOVERNMENT AND WORK TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT.

JUST LOOK AT THE STATE OF AFFAIRS IN NORTH AFTER TNA TOOK OVER IN 2013. GANJA, DRUGS, MURDER, RAPE ALL TYPES OF VIOLATIONS HAVE INCREASED.

TNA PARLIAMENTARIANS DO NOT TALK ABOUT THESE MATTERS OR TRY TO SOLVE THEM.

TNA IS LINKED TO THESE CULPRITS AND DOING BUSINESS DEALINGS WITH THEM.

THE TNA NORTHERN PROVINCE CHIEF MINISTER, WIGNESWARAN’S DAUGHTER IS MARRIED TO A SINHALESE.

CHIEF MINISTER WIGNESWARAN DOESN’T MIND HAVING SINHALESE FOR RELATIONS (IN-LAWS) BUT HE PROHIBITS OTHER TAMILS TO MARRY SINHALESE.

The people of Sri Lanka have suffered enough. Let us live in peace. We have lost 30 years suffering because of other people’s agendas. Leave the communities to work out their own solutions.

One Response to “Attention International Community: “We want homes, not merging of North-East” says Tamils”

Many Sri Lankans are gravely concerned about the TNA proposal to partition Sri Lanka into four pieces with a huge chunk (28% of the land area, 66% of the coastline and 66% of the ocean comprising the North and the East of Sri Lanka) going to the TNA racists and separatists as a merged North East federal state (but craftily disguised as ‘unitary’) with full powers.

We are wondering why did over 43,000 both Sri Lankan Forces and civilians die at the hands of the LTTE and that megalomaniac Prabhakaran, if now, the TNA is being handed over an ‘Eelam’ so easily constitutionally?

When looking at a GIS Map of Sri Lanka, it is amply clear that most of the forested areas of Sri Lanka are situated in the North and the East. Do not these forests belong to all the citizens of Sri Lanka? Do not the same principle apply to the ocean too or even the whole island, that the oceans and the whole island belong to all the people of Sri Lanka? Mr. Vigneshwaran has ‘created’ a fake history (stating that Tamils lived in Sri Lanka for 2000 years). Yet, there are no ancient ruins in Jaffna, in the North nor any ancient Dravidian writing to prove these fake claims. History of the Tamils commence mainly with the Dutch and the British bringing in large numbers of people from Tamil Nadu to work in tobacco plantations commenced by the Dutch and the British. There was the so called Jaffna Kingdom set up by an invader just prior to that but then Jaffna was only very sparsely populated. Our question is, can people such as Mr. Vigneshwaran ‘create’ his own fake history like this? He is ignoring the many Buddhist ruins, the many ancient Buddha statues, ancient Sinhala prakrit writing, the many ancient irrigation reservoirs built by Sinhala kings in the North and the East which proves an earlier indigenous Sinhala habitation in the North and all over the island. We would like to tell Mr. Vigneshwaran to be objective when it comes to history and archaeology and accept once and for all the fact that the Sinhala people lived all over the island for thousands of years and continue to do so. I would like Mr. Vigneshwaran to note that the provincial boundaries were drawn up by British colonialists for their administrative purposes with no input whatsoever from the Sinhala people and does not tally at all with the earlier history of the island which was unitary in nature.

The Kandyan Kingdom (1400AD-1815) comprised almost all of the island inclusive of the East and almost all of the North. The earlier Kingdom of Rajarata (600BC-1400 AD) comprised the North Central, North Western, Northern and Eastern Provinces or the dry zone of Sri Lanka.

We are gravely concerned regarding the drawing up of a new constitution where due to the pressure of the TNA, the US, EU, UK, Canada, Norway, Sri Lanka is in grave danger of being divided up on ethnic lines into four, five or even six different pieces. Is this not crazy?

The TNA proposals were drawn up by experts which the TNA hired from the UK, Canada, Belgium, Canada, US and the like. Is this not an interference in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs by foreign powers, even to the extent of trying to draw up Sri Lanka’s constitution?

Can any organization in Sri Lanka go to the supreme court and stop, once and for all, the merger of the North and the East since it is critical to stop this once and for all? Can any organization in Sri Lanka also go to the supreme court and stop, once and for all the, dividing up of this small island on ethnic or any other lines?

The only way to stop this madness is to go to the supreme court and get a verdict which would prohibit the merger of any provinces and to stop once and for all the dismemberment of this small island on ethnic or any other lines.
