In 2010 election, the Alliance of\nMahinda Rajapakse secured 127 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2010 election,\nMaithreepala secured 90,118 votes in Polonnaruwa District, at a time Maithree\u2019s\nand Mahinda Rajapakse\u2019s popularity &nbsp;remained &nbsp;high.&nbsp; <strong>Since\nthen, has popularity of Maithreepala increased or decreased?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, he won the\nPresidential Election, at the peak of Maithree\u2019s popularity, he only managed to\nscore 118,845 votes in Polonnaruwa with the support of UNP, section of SLFP,\nSLMC etc.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Becoming the President of\nSri Lanka did not help Maithreepala to increase his vote base, even though <strong>he\nis now many times more richer with his team of sibilings.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We estimate that\nMaithreepala may not secure more than 50,000 votes, still managing to secure a\nseat in the house of representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However, if the voter\nsentiments were projected to be against him, there is no doubt Sirisena will\nmake a secret deal with either Ranil or Sajith.&nbsp; This distinct possibility\nmust be vetted by SLPP in its planning process.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By M D P DISSANAYAKE Maithreepala Sirisena is aiming to obtain 1st place in Polonnaruwa and garner over 200,000 votes at the next parliamentary elections.
