{"id":100353,"date":"2020-03-26T16:58:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T23:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=100353"},"modified":"2020-03-26T16:58:42","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T23:58:42","slug":"gmoa-urges-people-not-to-lower-guard-because-of-lull-in-detections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2020\/03\/26\/gmoa-urges-people-not-to-lower-guard-because-of-lull-in-detections\/","title":{"rendered":"GMOA urges people not to lower guard because of lull in detections"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>By Rathindra Kuruwita Courtesy The Island<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The public\u00a0should\u00a0not let their guard down because\u00a0of a\u00a0decrease in the detection of COVID-19 patients, Dr. Haritha Aluthge of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA),\u00a0warned\u00a0yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Aluthge told&nbsp;The Island&nbsp;that though the official&nbsp;count&nbsp;of COVID-19 patients&nbsp;was&nbsp;101, the actual number of&nbsp;infected&nbsp;people might be about 500.&nbsp; The GMOA feared&nbsp;that many people were not able to maintain an appropriate distance when they went out to buy goods, after the curfew was lifted, and that&nbsp;could have led to more&nbsp;infections.<br>&nbsp;It is possible that the number will spike,&nbsp;by&nbsp;around April 08. About 19 000 people had come into physical contact with COVID-19 patients, currently in hospital, and these people are being&nbsp;monitored&nbsp;by authorities.
