While Muslim\nadherents globally are placing the health and safety of the living loved one\u2019s\nover the dead and adhering to customs. Quite a number of increasing incidents\nare getting reported of Muslim villages protesting against burials in their\nvillages while in most cases where burials are taking place it is often after\nweeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>General burial tradition of a Muslim<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Body is washed\nwith water minimum 3 times (ghusl ritual) <\/li><li>Communal prayer\nis performed before burial<\/li><li>A body is\nsupposed to be buried within 24hours preferably without a casket<\/li><li>No viewing of\nthe body before burial<\/li><li>The body is\nwrapped in a shroud (Kaffan)<\/li><li>Embalming\nand cosmetology are not allowed&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<strong><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iraq:\nPopulation 40million<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cases:\n<strong>1,400<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deaths:\n<strong>78<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgues\nare full of dead COVID-19 bodies without a place to bury. People who live near\nsites of government designated burial grounds are opposing burial fearful that\nthe bodies will bring virus to their locality. Some bodies are lying in the\nmorgue for 10 days and some for weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24\nMarch 2020 &#8211; Nahrawan city, 34km east of Baghdad people gathered near town\ncemetery opposing burial of COVID-19 victims and succeeded. Authorities took\nthe dead bodies back to Baghdad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nreason for this was a landfill established in 2015 near the town that polluted\nthe nearby soil (Raseef22 media interviewed protestors)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21\nMarch 2020: the body of a 67year old was kept for 9 days until permitted to be\nburied in Najaf\/South Iraq. No\none is allowed to attend the washing rite except health workers who have to\nwear protective gear and be one-metre from the body. But the\nGovt fears that families may be hiding families of COVID-19 dead in order to\nhold religious funerals. In so doing, the govt knows the risk of contaminating\nthe entire community\/village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India:\n201million Muslims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cases:<strong> 11,555<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deaths:396<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9\nApril: 65-year-old Muslim COVID-19 victim from Mumbai suburb denied permission\nto bury his body there, his family members alleged on Thursday. Family allege\nthat Malad Malwadni Kabrastan trustees denied burial. Iranian leaders have also contracted the virus &#8211; Iraj\nHarirchi, Iran&#8217;s deputy health minister, Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri while an adviser to Ayatollah Ali\nKhamenei, Iran&#8217;s supreme leader, has died. 78-year-old Ayatollah Hashem Bathayi\nGolpayegani died just two days after he tested positive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iran\u2019s\nheath authorities require families to coordinate covid-19 burials with Iran\u2019s\nRevolutionary Guard Corps to ensure families do not break social-distancing\nnorms by gathering in large numbers at the cemetery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professional\nbody washers are refusing to cleanse COVID-19 bodies for fear of catching the\nvirus from the corpses. Brunei\u2019s first covid-19 dead\nwas a 51year old woman. Only immediate family was allowed. Only some prayers\nwere allowed. The body is not allowed to be brought home or to the mosque. Only\ndry ritual purification is allowed on the encased body bag of the deceased. The\nbody is not dressed in a shroud. Family members can only watch from afar. No\none can recite talkin during the burial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bangladesh:\n146million Muslims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cases:\n1231<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deaths:\n50<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fear of Muslims\nin Bangladesh was such that when a 60 year old woman from Abupur village died\nof kidney failure villagers refused to allow her to be buried fearing her death\nwas from covid-19. The locals even vandalized the ambulance. She was later\nburied in another area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unb.com.bd\/category\/Bangladesh\/locals-stop-womans-burial-over-covid-19-fear-in-feni\/49588\">https:\/\/unb.com.bd\/category\/Bangladesh\/locals-stop-womans-burial-over-covid-19-fear-in-feni\/49588<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indonesia:\n225million Muslims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cases:\n<strong>5,136<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deaths:\n469<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesian Government\nappealed to citizens not to reject burial of covid-19 dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndead are wrapped in plastic bags and placed in sealed coffins then sprayed with\ndisinfectant. However much the Govt communicated to the people they could not answer\nthe fears of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jakarta\neven launched a 120 strong special police unit to guard burials of COVID-19\nvictims in view of protests by residents. This is the issue with fears of\ngroundwater contamination in Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Netherlands\nhas found COVID-19 in wastewater (RIVM National Institute for Public Health)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivm.nl\/en\/news\/novel-coronavirus-found-in-wastewater?fbclid=IwAR3XTjUYlMkXkFskF0rfiL2m5QWh5PqmmqKR8Qmi2iWTUarqmhR1to3ySwE\">https:\/\/www.rivm.nl\/en\/news\/novel-coronavirus-found-in-wastewater?fbclid=IwAR3XTjUYlMkXkFskF0rfiL2m5QWh5PqmmqKR8Qmi2iWTUarqmhR1to3ySwE<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nThailand a forensic worker died after contaminating COVID-19 from a dead\nCOVID-19 body. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/first-death-coronavirus-healthcare-caught-from-dead-body-thailand-2020-4\">https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/first-death-coronavirus-healthcare-caught-from-dead-body-thailand-2020-4<\/a>\nThis incident marks the first instance of a dead body contaminating a living\nbeing and causing fatality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nvirtually puts to rest those who claim COVID-19 dead cannot contaminate.\nTherefore burials are certainly cause for worry. It can only be seen in years\nto come how countries that have buried their dead face health issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An\nexample to highlight this is St. Louis where neighbors noticed a steep in\npeople dying from cancers, lung disease, thyroid problems.
