The\nElection Commission was back to the wall after the Supreme Court\ndecision.   No doubt its members were disappointed.   Now\nthe EC is ostensibly trying to curry favour the  President.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nHealth Department Guidelines on the Covid19 to hold the elections were\ndiscussed at length and agreed.  The Covid 19 guidelines  in  a\ncountry faced with a pandemic  will  not be an  ever lasting\nsolution. For example, the State of Melbourne,   which was\nperforming well  3 weeks ago, is now under the spot light.  \nThis could happen in  Sri Lanka as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \n EC would  prefer the escalation of Covid19 within next 40\ndays.  Therefore,  it is now finding ways and means of exposing the\nPresident by virtually forcing  him to make directives  that will\nhelp their aims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last\ntime, the EC has asked the President to seek the Supreme Court\ndeterminations  on the recalling of the defunct Parliament.  \nThat was none of their business.  The President asked them to MYOB\n(mind your own business).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now\nthey are requesting  the President to  issue a Gazettte  in\nrespect of the Health Guidelines  issued by the Department of Health in\nrespect of the General Election.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\na Gazette is issued as per existing  guidelines, then due to unforeseen\ncircumstances  where  situation  change for better or worse, the\nEC will request to amend the Gazette<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nexample, some  political parties are demanding to increase the number of\nparticipants in political gatherings from 100 to 500.   The EC\ncommission is more than  likely to endorse the request, but will announce\nthat the Gazette must be amended   to increase  the maximum\nstipulation from 100 to 500.  This will be a never ending saga of\namending Gazettes, similar to actions of former President Maithreepala\nSirisena.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n President has already thrown the  previous request of the EC to seek\nSupreme Court determination to WPB (waste paper basket).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JUST\nAS MUCH AS EC is trying to make the job difficult for the President, the\nPresident  need  to keep the untrustworthy institutions and its\npersonnel in the right place.   <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
