{"id":104160,"date":"2020-07-02T14:01:34","date_gmt":"2020-07-02T21:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=104160"},"modified":"2020-07-02T14:01:34","modified_gmt":"2020-07-02T21:01:34","slug":"colombo-port-workers-call-off-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2020\/07\/02\/colombo-port-workers-call-off-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Colombo Port workers call off strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Employees at the Colombo Port have temporarily called off their indefinite strike over the Easter Terminal issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strike, which started off this afternoon (02), was brought to a temporary halt after Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa promised them a discussion on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0dc0\u0dbb\u0dcf\u0dba \u0dc0\u0dbb\u0dca\u0da2\u0db1\u0dba \u0d85\u0dc0\u0dc3\u0db1\u0dca\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uF2favKVtZY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today, President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Workers\u2019 Union of the Ports Authority Prasanna Kalutarage stated that all trade unions of the Colombo Port had reached a joint decision to resort to strike action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was reported that the strike was launched in support of the protest fast launched by three trade unionists on top of a crane on Wednesday (01), protesting against the failure to fix three gantry cranes brought down from China at the Eastern Terminal of the port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Kalutarage stated that the strike will continue until authorities agree to fix the gantry cranes in the Eastern Terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Premier had noted on Wednesday that a final decision has not been taken to give the Eastern Terminal to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) had signed agreements with India and Japan to run the partially built East Terminal after dropping plans for a standard build-operate-transfer deal amid opposition from then President Maithripala Sirisena.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Adaderana Employees at the Colombo Port have temporarily called off their indefinite strike over the Easter Terminal issue.
