{"id":104209,"date":"2020-07-03T14:46:43","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T21:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=104209"},"modified":"2020-07-03T14:46:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T21:46:43","slug":"thank-you-the-nationalist-minded-trade-unions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2020\/07\/03\/thank-you-the-nationalist-minded-trade-unions\/","title":{"rendered":"THANK YOU, THE NATIONALIST MINDED TRADE UNIONS,"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>RANJITH SOYSA<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>We have\nreached an unenviable situation as regards the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo\nharbour that we are unable to move ahead, We are told that that it is due to\nthe agreement entered into with India by the previous government and also it is\nreported that the pressure is exerted by a powerful local company and a\n,multi-national conglomerate,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever\nis the reason, we request Sri Lankan government led by the exemplary leadership\nof the President not to blink but to convince all the pressure groups that Sri\nLanka is no longer for sale, The country\u2019s assets must be used fully for the\nbenefit of its poor citizens now affected by the Covid 19 lockdowns etc. Ever\ncent is invaluable in our war to save the economy of the country. ECT will be a\nstar earner of foreign exchange with its capacity to handle bigger ships. New\nopportunities will be created for shipping in the post Corvid period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is\nheartening to note that the Trade Unions in the Port of Colombo are determined\nto protect this national treasure from falling into foreign control by\nstressing on the right reasons. We remember in the fifties when the Ports were\nnationalized how the trade unions acted positively and again after nearly 65\nyears the trade union movement in the Port has adopted a\nnationalist stance in preserving the important economic artery.
