Elephant\u00a0calves, in particular, are tricked to consume the explosives and suffer without food before succumbing to a painful death.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now,\nLeopards are being trapped by hunters&#8217; snares&nbsp;to satisfy a growing demand\nfor their body parts in illegal wild trade carried out both within and outside\nSri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Law\nenforcement bodies like the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), Police\nand the Attorney \u2013 General\u2019s Dept., have failed to take effective and drastic\naction against the poachers to contain the destruction of our wild life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndeath of the Black Leopard on May 29, 2020 which was an avoidable death, if not\nfor the negligence of the country\u2019s law enforcement authorities, has caused\nimmense sadness in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncase concerning the death of this Black Leopard will be resumed at the Hatton\nCourt on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice\nfor Animals and Nature (JAN) under the leadership of Ven.
