Mahinda Rajapakse led the Pohottuwa\nto an unparalleled victory at the Parliamentary Elections held on 05 Aug 20,\nsurpassing the expectations of many patriotic forces in the country. If 19\nNovember 2019 was Gotabaya\u2019s day, 05 August 2020 was, without argument,\nMahinda\u2019s day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahinda led from the front. His popularity among\u00a0the people, as reflected in the preferential votes cast, was unrivaled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a landslide victory, with Pohottuwa gaining 145 seats in the 225-seat House. When combined with the seats won by the \u2018Pohottuwa\u2019 allies, Mahinda is able to muster 150 seats in the Legislature to give the Party the 2\/3rd<\/sup> majority needed to amend the obnoxious Article introduced into the Constitution during the Yahapalanaya regime and, to re-spell clearly without any trace of ambiguity, certain Articles in the Constitution which were muted, straitjacketed and made redundant by a judicial interpretation that surprised many; by re-spelling these Articles, Mahinda would be restoring the Articles to its previous status quo; the authors of the Constitution, in their profound wisdom, believed these provisions were of paramount importance; Mahinda and his team valiantly fought for the retention of these provisions in October 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should not be construed that the \u2018amendment\u2019 to Amendment 19 of the Constitution would include the restoration of the \u2018rights\u2019 of Americans and other foreign Nationals with dual citizenship, to hold any form of political office in this country. They should remain forever barred from political life in this country as they continue to pose a major threat to Sri Lanka\u2019s National security, given the total betrayal of their country of birth at the time of pledging absolute and undivided loyalty to their adopted country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahinda\u2019s majority in Parliament would enable the Pohottuwa to immediately pass legislation to regulate all Foreign Funded Organisations (FFOs) that deceitfully pose off as NGOs and which have now re-christened themselves as \u2018Civil Society Organisations\u2019. They need to be regulated, by law, in respect of the membership, objectives, work plans, work executed, monies coming-in, monies paid-out, justification for payments, sources of funding, etc. Importantly, their work and funds need to be audited by the Auditor-General, strictly according to Sri Lankan guidelines. The personal accounts of the membership of those in these organisations need to be scrutinised by \u2018Income Tax\u2019, the \u2018Bribery Department\u2019, and the Money Laundering unit of the CID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The re-registration of the FFOs, each year, would be dependent on their performance. By law, FFOs and their contractors should be denied access to Government offices and debarred from holding appointments in any Government or semi-Government Organisation as they are duty-bound to do the bidding of Foreign Governments and Foreign Corporations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The just-concluded Elections made\npolitical history when, for the first time since Independence, the UNP that\ntook over the reins of power from the British were literally swept out from the\nHouse. It was a case of dial zero for the UNP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blame for the defeat could be laid squarely on a corrupt UNP leadership, discerned by many as a boot-licking\u00a0class groveling at the feet of Western patronage and fawningly seeking their indulgence at every turn; this attitude is personified by Wickramasinghe, a self-centered politician whose behaviour evokes revulsion and demands that the rule of law be applied and justice is done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The election also saw another major\nParty, the SLFP, reduced to just one seat, with the comedy of Sirisena, the\nleader of the SLFP, abdicating his party to contest on the Pohottuwa ticket,\nunder Mahinda\u2019s leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JVP\u2019s frugal representation in the previous\nParliament took a further knock to make it an insignificant nada in Party\npolitics. The exposure of the JVP is complete; a pseudo-left party – like many\nof its ilk in Asia and Africa -denigrating \u2018Che\u2019s life and legacy and working\ncovertly in cahoots with Washington. The party is not short of funds and gets\nricher with each Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the North and the East, the power\nof the monolithic Tamil and Muslim Parties has been dispersed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Party that has emerged as the\nlargest opposition grouping is the Telephone Party of Premadasa with 55 seats;\nstrongly linked to the Western Governments, Premadasa\u2019s  voter base shrank\nalarmingly from a 5 Million in November 2019 to a 3 Million on 05 August 2020,\nreducing him to a sound-box, \u2018full of sound and fury\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did this happen?  Was\nPremadasa not fore-ordained to get more seats? Were the scales in Parliament\nplanned to be so heavily weighted in favour of the Pohottuwa? Was the election\nscript written for Wickramasinghe to be booted out of Parliament so\nunceremoniously?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all happened this way because the\npeople are concerned about the real threat to Sri Lanka, the threat posed by\nthe Americans and they know that Mahinda, a man for all seasons, is the man who\ncould be trusted to rescue Sri Lanka from the American snare.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major feature of the Sri Lankan\npolitical scene, especially in recent times, has been the flagrant interference\nby the Americans in the internal affairs of the country. The interference\ncontinues unabated, even to this date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just prior to the Elections, news\nsurfaced that the Americans were working very hard to stage-manage the results\nof the Election and the composition of the new Parliament. According to the\nAmerican Plan, doing the rounds at the time, Pohottuwa was to get a majority,\nbut not a 2\/3rd <\/sup>majority. The major Tamil and Muslim communities\nalong with the JVP were to get reduced representation in Parliament so that\nthey would not be a party or hindrance to the bargaining process in the\nformation of a National Government that would include MPs mainly from a\nPohottuwa \u2013 Telephone alliance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As planned by the Americans, the\nTelephone was to win about 20 more seats than it actually did, so that the\nTelephone would be in a strong bargaining position, to offer support for the\nestablishment of a National Government based on a mutually agreed programme and\nto provide a 2\/3rd <\/sup>majority to the Pohottuwa, if required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Parliament that the Americans\nhad plotted to create had no place for Mahinda; the Americans consider Sri\nLanka\u2019s National hero a major threat to their plans; there was a massive\ncampaign afoot to defeat Mahinda at Kurunegala. With Mahinda out of the way,\nthe Americans were free to install a puppet of their choice as the Prime\nMinister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the developing political\nscenario, the American Plan had a pivotal role for Ranil, Basil and Premadasa.\nThe post of Prime Minister (in the absence of Mahinda) and some key portfolios\nwere plums on the table to be had after haggling and bargaining between the two\npolitical Parties dominating the Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American objective in\n\u2018Operation-General-Election\u2019 was to establish a National Government in the\ncountry that would sign the MCC; thus signed, it would convey to the world (and\nto history) that – with the two major parties in the South (the South is the\nbedrock of opposition to the MCC) unanimously approving the MCC in Parliament\n–  the Sri Lankans accepted the MCC with open arms.  Viz, Sri Lanka\u2019s\nsurrender to the US was of her own volition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Divine providence forewarned the\npeople and Mahinda about the plot. Mahinda had to work very hard against a\nstrong undercurrent of assorted forces that was attempting to dislodge him from\nKurunegala; but work he did. A true son of the soil, he sensed the stark danger\nthe MCC posed to Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 05 August 2020, Mahinda, with the\npeople solidly behind him, soundly defeated the American plan. The people gave\nPohottuwa a 2\/3rd<\/sup> majority in Parliament and to Mahinda, personally,\nover 500,000 votes in Kurunegala so that he and his team in Parliament could\nconfidently dump the MCC in the trash can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahinda, the charismatic hero, with\nthe people of Sri Lanka solidly behind him, had once again defeated the\nAmericans at their own game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teplitz reacted badly. In a tersely\nworded statement meant to pass off as an \u2018expression of good wishes to the new\nGovernment\u2019, she alluded slyly in gypsy style, to the signing of the MCC by\nconveying a couched threat that Sri Lanka must perforce \u2018partner\u2019 America.\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is regrettable that Teplitz used\nthe occasion to refer to the COVID 19 pandemic; a threat to be read between the\nlines?  This line of thinking, as constructed in this paper, may be\ncontroverted by arguing that Teplitz was only referring to Sri Lanka\u2019s success\nin handling the virus. That, is a hard sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A mention of \u2018COVID\u2019 does seem inappropriate,\nor out of place, to be included in a \u2018congratulatory\u2019 note. Sri Lanka is only\ntoo keenly aware that Agent-Moragoda, at a time when the Sri Lankan medics were\ncoming to grips with COVID 19, nearly derailed the medical efforts by\nattempting to coerce Sri Lanka to follow the deadly \u2018herd-immunisation\u2019 path;\nherd-immunisation was America\u2019s answer to the bug; this policy has taken a toll\nof 160,ooo human lives in the US thus far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Had Sri Lanka followed Agent-Moragoda\u2019s advice, the\ncountry would have been a virtual cemetery and the US Indo-Pacific forces would\nhave invaded Sri Lanka to \u2018rescue\u2019 her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is pertinent that on 07 August 2020, the American Defence\nattach\u00e9 paid a call on Sri Lanka\u2019s Chief of Defence Services and reportedly\ndiscussed with him about COVID 19 issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is of grave concern that on 10 Aug ’20, the US awarded\n‘Sarvodaya’ a 1.5 M USD to manage a portentous disaster that awaits Sri\nLanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka must necessarily be alert\nand take necessary precautionary measures, in anticipation, against a possible\nCOVID 19 attack considering America\u2019s dreadful track record. Sri Lanka\u2019s\ndefences against such a virus attack must include a plan that would stymie the\nintroduction of the bug by Agents and Contractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, Mahinda and his\nParliament must take all steps to dump the MCC, ACSA and SOFA to where it\nbelongs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
