Minister of Justice,\nAttorney-at-Law Ali Sabry (PC) insisting on establishing seperate court to hear\nchild abuse cases is welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The writer believes this is a good\nmove. The writer also wants to propose, that&nbsp;not\nonly a court,&nbsp;but a &#8220;new police unit&#8221; be set up &#8211; not\njust the existing unit, but a very strong and responsible police force unit\nwith sufficient powers to investigate all orphanages, religious institutions\nand&nbsp;residential seminaries&nbsp;with children under the age of 16 stay and\nlive for religious training in Buddhism, Christianity and <strong>Islamic religious\nand or Arabic studies <\/strong>in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This special police unit must be\nvested with powers (ENPOWERED) under the law\/constitution to investigating\nwhether child abuse is taking place in these institutions and produce the\nculprits before the Rule-of-Law in this new special court that the Hon.\nMinister of Justice and the government propose to set-up. They should also be\nempowered to probe all past incidents and complaints to nab the culprits who\nhave committed such crimes in the past, irrespective of cast, creed,\nreligion,social and civil status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many political forces, social\nelements and religious figures, foreign interest groups,representatives of\nforeign diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka, NGO&#8217;s and INGO&#8217;s will oppose this\naction Against the Social Threat of Child Abuse in &#8220;Our Motherland&#8221;.\nThese groups will oppose the setting-up of this special court and the proposed\nSpecial-Unit Police Force and try to defend this social abuse VEHEMENTLY.&nbsp;\nThe Honourable Minister&#8217;s good action against the social threat of child abuse\nin &#8220;Our Motherland&#8221; (Maathruboomiya) &#8220;The Muslim Voice&#8221; and\nits supporters fully accept your stand on this issue and will do whatever we\ncan to publicly support it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Noor Nizam &#8211; Peace and Political Activist, Political Communications Researcher, SLFP\/SLPP Stalwart and Convener \u2013 The Muslim Voice\u201d, August 23rd., 2020.
