Dear Editor,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit from Secretary off State Pompeo  and his tone and manner provided a refreshing\ncontrast to the US  sponsoring of the\ninfamous UNHCR resolution or British Prime Minister David Cameron\u2019s Antics at\nthe CHOGM in 2013. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On both of these occasions , the players were singing off\nthe song sheets of he Tigers. No longer are the Tigers calling the shots. If\nthat is not an achievement , what is. Let the Foreign Ministry and their\nambassadors and High Commissioners ensure that it stays that way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No longer is the Rajapakse administration as alleged,\nvisited only by unknown head\u2019s of State. They are visited by emissaries from\nthe head\u2019s of the two most powerful states \nand economies US & China, within a space of a few weeks, even\nputting aside trivial’s like a Presidential Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like he said, US investments come through private sector\ninvestments that create jobs, enhance economy \nknowledge and technical know how of the indigenous people. This is what\nhappened in Japan, South Korea, Singapore ,China,  Malaysia ,Thailand , Vietnam that  contributed in no small way to these\ncompanies transforming their economies. None of this countries have become US\nsatellites to achieve this . They had strong leadership at home to prevent this\nBesides ,we have a Colombo Port City and Hambantota free trade zone , with\nwonderful opportunities for would be investors , especially eying export.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it needs transparency he says to provide confidence\nfor the investors. We also say , we can provide political stability. Let us provide\nboth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us also not forget that it was US intelligence that\nenabled the Navy to locate  and destroy\nsix of the eight arms supplier vessels the SL navy destroyed during the\nwar.This was crucial to the ultimate war victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making use of what is on offer from US should not in\nanyway get in the way of the special relationship between SL and China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenge for SL and it\u2019s people is to get the best\nfrom both for their betterment and  keep\nthe US away from the Tigers . There is no question, it is easier to do this\nwith the Republicans rather than the Democrat\u2019s . However, the importance of\nthe  East West sea lanes for US and the\nQUAD alliance is a strong stick in SL\u2019s hand to keep even the Dems from the Tigers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let SL and it\u2019s people exploit this to the full for it\u2019s\nbenefit and may all Sri Lankans realise the importance of this opportunity and\ngrasp this with skill and wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
