Buddhism accepts the claims of non &#8211; human beings for just and fair\ntreatment, call on all adherents to extend compassion and loving &#8211; kindness to\nanimals, and where ever a Buddhist Social Order prevails, living beings become\nthe subjects of the State with acceptance of a concomitant State Responsibility\nfor the welfare of Animals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A striking example of the\ndifference in approaches is the recent cull of 17 million Mink animals in\nDenmark.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a Holocaust in every\nsense of the word, except that the species are different. No moral voices have\nbeen raised so far to spare&nbsp; the lives of these innocent animals, who are\nkept in small cages from birth till they are slain for the fur industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nfur industry is cruel.&nbsp;<\/strong>More than\n50 million animals are raised and brutally killed&nbsp;<strong>for<\/strong>&nbsp;use in fashion every year. Methods\nemployed to kill animals&nbsp;<strong>for<\/strong>&nbsp;their&nbsp;<strong>fur<\/strong>&nbsp;include gassing, electrocution, and\nneck breaking, and many are skinned alive. Buying even the tiniest amount\nof&nbsp;<strong>fur<\/strong>&nbsp;trim supports\nthe&nbsp;<strong>cruel fur industry<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mink\nanimals spend their entire lives in filthy cramped cages, deprived of the\nability to engage in natural behaviors. Furthermore, the highly&nbsp;<strong>congested,<\/strong>&nbsp;squalid conditions are fertile ground for\nepidemics such as the bird flu.
