{"id":109765,"date":"2020-12-16T15:00:18","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T22:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=109765"},"modified":"2020-12-16T15:00:18","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T22:00:18","slug":"ex-mp-abdullah-maharoof-remanded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2020\/12\/16\/ex-mp-abdullah-maharoof-remanded\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-MP Abdullah Maharoof remanded"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The two suspects including former MP Abdullah Maharoof, who were arrested over the misuse of vehicles belonging to Lanka Sathosa during the 2015-2019 period, have been remanded until tomorrow (17).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order was delivered by the Colombo Magistrate\u2019s Court when the case was taken up today via Skype, before Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court today that, according to the information which came to light during investigations, former MP Maharoof \u2013 the first suspect in the case \u2013 had misused three vehicles rented by Lanka Sathosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monthly rent of Rs 195,000 was reportedly paid for each vehicle and thereby, the suspect has misappropriated nearly Rs 1.2 million through the illegal use of the three vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking into account the submissions, the additional magistrate ordered to remand the two suspects and to produce them before Colombo Fort Court Magistrate\u2019s Court tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) MP and former Deputy Minister Maharoof was arrested by the CID on Monday night (14) while in Kinniya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A man named Farook Mohamed Aslam, identified as a resident of Matale, was also placed under police custody along with the ex-lawmaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CID had launched investigations based on a complaint made by the Lanka Sathosa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Adaderana The two suspects including former MP Abdullah Maharoof, who were arrested over the misuse of vehicles belonging to Lanka Sathosa during the 2015-2019 period, have been remanded until tomorrow (17).
