UNDP\nResident Representative in Sri Lanka, Mr. Robert Juhkam officially handed over\nthe Global Human Development Report (HDR 2020) to Prime Minister Mahinda\nRajapaksa today at his residence in Wijerama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nHuman Development Report (HDR), is the annual flagship report published by the\nHuman Development Report Office of the UNDP that evaluates and measures human\nprogress. This year\u2019s 30th<\/sup> publication, emphasises on the\nrelationship between people and nature, focusing on the impact that human\nactivity has on the earth and stresses on the importance of improving people\u2019s\nlives while working towards an inclusive and sustainable future for all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr.\nJuhkam pointed out that Sri Lanka is in the high human development category,\npositioned 72 out of 189 countries, and is the highest in the South Asian\nregion. Between 1990 and 2019, Sri Lanka\u2019s HDI value has increased from 0.629\nto 0.782, an increase of 24.3 percent. \nFurther in relation to the new PHDI (Planetary pressures-adjusted HDI) featured in the report,\nSri Lanka is ranked at the top in the South Asian region at rank 38 overall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime\nMinister Mahinda Rajapaksa assured Sri Lanka\u2019s continuous commitment towards\nachieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and finding\ntransformative pathways during these turbulent times and look towards UNDP for\na stronger collaboration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
