{"id":111634,"date":"2021-02-12T16:15:11","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T23:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=111634"},"modified":"2021-02-12T16:15:11","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T23:15:11","slug":"sri-lanka-need-to-declare-emeregency-and-lockdown-immediately","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/02\/12\/sri-lanka-need-to-declare-emeregency-and-lockdown-immediately\/","title":{"rendered":"SRI LANKA NEED TO DECLARE EMEREGENCY  AND LOCKDOWN  IMMEDIATELY"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong data-rich-text-format-boundary=\"true\">By M D P DISSANAYAKE<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The\nnumbers of positive Covid cases have increased rapidly during past 2\nmonths.&nbsp;&nbsp; We are fast reaching 1000 positives cases per day within\nnext week or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nresources of health authorities &nbsp;have been stretched to near break-down\nlevels.&nbsp; <strong>The public co-operation for the adherence of health and safety\nguidelines is waning<\/strong>.&nbsp; The security forces are overworked, <strong>arrest\nof persons for violating Rules are creating further unrest in the society.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\npandemic&nbsp; of this proportion cannot be ignored just by media\nannouncements&nbsp; and police arrests.&nbsp; The current system need breathing\nspace, where &nbsp;health and security officers need to revisit the existing\npolicies and administrative arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nthe meantime, the government must declare complete Lockdown forthwith together\nwith offer financial&nbsp; and food subsidy assistance to the vast\ncommunity.&nbsp; <strong>At least 3 weeks lockdown could possibly save the nation\nfrom disaster.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\nis true&nbsp; nations like Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Germany have\nnot yet imported any vaccinations, whereas a poor country like Sri Lanka has\ntaken initial steps to look after its people. &nbsp;&nbsp;Singapore Prime\nMinister and the Ministers of Cabinet received the first dosage of\nvaccinations, quoting,  we need to prove it is safe\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nnext shipment of vaccinations are not due till April-May,&nbsp; the government\nneed to arrest the rapidly increasing trend by enforcing a complete Lockdown\nimmediately.<strong> We need to bring the casualty numbers within controllable\nlimits<\/strong>, whilst expediting the arrival of vaccinations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By M D P DISSANAYAKE The numbers of positive Covid cases have increased rapidly during past 2 months.&nbsp;&nbsp; We are fast reaching 1000 positives cases per day within next week or two.
