{"id":113635,"date":"2021-04-19T14:45:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T21:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=113635"},"modified":"2021-04-19T14:45:01","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T21:45:01","slug":"cardinal-requests-to-observe-2-minute-silence-on-april-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/04\/19\/cardinal-requests-to-observe-2-minute-silence-on-april-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardinal requests to observe 2-minute silence on April 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, today requested the public to observe two minutes\u2019 silence at 8.45 a.m. on April 21 as a mark of respect for the victims of the Easter Sunday bombings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lanka on Wednesday marks two years since the devastating Easter Sunday attacks, which killed over 250 in bombings at three churches and three luxury hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardinal Ranjith stated that they decided to request all communities in the country to observe 2 minutes\u2019 silence as the first blast had occurred at 8.45 a.m. on the morning of April 21, 2019 at the St. Anthony\u2019s Church in Kochchikade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the Catholic churches in the country will be observing the 2 minutes\u2019 silence and that all Catholics in Sri Lanka have also been requested to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are requesting all the people in the country, especially the religious leaders, to join us in observing two minutes of silence by considering this as a national issue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that all Catholic churches in the island have been asked to ring bells at 8:45 a.m. and observe two minutes of silence before once again ringing the bells.
