President Gotabaya\nRajapaksa. Your Excellency should spare some of your very valuable and busy\ntime to visit\/attend parliament more frequently please. When you are re in are\nin attendance, the presence in parliament of MP&#8217;s of the government are nearly\n99%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the presence of\nopposition MP&#8217;s are somewhat the same. But during the other parliamentary\nsittings, it is &#8220;NEARLY EMPTY&#8221;. Those MP&#8217;s and ministers who speak,\nonly speak for the benefit &#8220;MEDIA&#8221; and the &#8220;TV cameras&#8221; <strong>in\nan almost empty parliament.<\/strong> Excellency Sir, you should bring about a\n&#8220;CHANGE&#8221; to this &#8220;bad parliamentary culture&#8221; please.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MP&#8217;s who do not attend\nparliament during sessions should be withheld their &#8220;day&#8217;s\nwage\/salary\/allowance&#8221; as a penalty\/punishment for not being present in\nthe chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>please. That should\nNOT mean that they can come, mark present and then leave the chambers. They\nshould be in attendence throughout the sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hon. Speaker of\nthe House should be adviced to follow the &#8220;rule of sitting in their\nallocated seats&#8221; during sessions and not to take seats behind prominent\nministers or other parliamentarians just to been seen on the TV screens during\nbroadcasted\/aired.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;DISCIPLINED\nPRACTICES&#8221; of seating procedures practiced in other countries, especially\nin the West, should become a &#8220;parliamentary norm&#8221; in our\n&#8220;MAATHRUBOOMIYA&#8221;&nbsp; as well, Your Excellency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Noor Nizam &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0Peace and Political Activist, Political Communication Researcher, SLFP\/SLPP Stalwart, Convener &#8220;The Muslim Voice&#8221; and Member &#8220;Viyathmaga&#8221;.
