– The Public\nUtilities Commission of Sri Lanka expresses its gratitude for the great\ninterest and fullest support showed by the people, in the blood donation camps,\norganized to meet the national need during this COVID pandemic<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– 500 pints\nof blood have already been supplied for national need<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public\nUtilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the electricity sector regulator, has\nsuccessfully organized 12 blood transfusion camps island wide within a month,\nat the request of the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS or Blood Bank)\nwith the assistance of island-wide electricians, civil organizations of the\nrespective districts and the public. Five of the donation camps have already\nbeen completed and steps are being taken to host the remaining camps within\nthis month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PUCSL held\nits first blood donation camps in the Kurunegala, Puttalam, Anuradhapura and\nRatnapura districts where blood was urgently needed, and more than 800 blood\ndonors were registered for these camps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 500 pints\nof blood were donated to the national need, as required by the blood\ntransfusion centers in the respective districts, through the first five camps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blood\ndonation camps are held adhering to all the health guidelines and the\nregistering of blood donors, providing them with a time slot to attend the\ndonation camp and permission to travel in the time of travel restrictions is\ncarried out online with the support of Blood Bank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on\nthe rapid blood donation camps host by the PUCSL, Chairman of the Public\nUtilities Commission of Sri Lanka, Mr Janaka Ratnayake said, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of\nMay, the National Blood Transfusion Center requested our assistance in\nobtaining blood for national need. Accordingly, we with the assistance of the\nElectrician Organizations which we have established in various parts of the\ncountry expeditiously organized these blood transfusion camps as a solution to\nthe present blood shortage of the country,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In less\nthan 10 days, the first five camps were organized in the worst-hit districts by\nthe lack of blood. We were able to donate nearly 500 pints of blood to those\ncamps, depending on the needs of the blood transfusion centers in each\ndistrict. Our goal is to donate 2,500 pints of blood to the blood bank,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have\nscheduled to host 7 more special blood donation camps in Ratnapura, Kandy,\nPolonnaruwa, Gampaha, Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts to meet the blood needs, during\nthis month. We will continue to support to organize and supply blood as needed\nin the future,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
