During the meetings, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral\n relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.\n The two sides re-affirmed that China-Sri Lanka relations have enjoyed\n healthy and smooth growth on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful\n Coexistence since the establishment of diplomatic relations 49 years ago. The\n two countries have steadily increased mutual political trust, carried out\n fruitful economic and trade cooperation, and exchanged frequent visits at\n various levels.\n In April 2005, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited Sri Lanka. The two\n countries proclaimed the establishment of an All-round Cooperative\n Partnership featuring sincere mutual support and everlasting friendship. The Sri Lankan side\n welcomed China’s status as an observer of the South Asian Association for\n Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and would continue to promote cooperation\n between China and SAARC. The Chinese side appreciated Sri Lanka’s stand, and\n reiterated its readiness to conduct exchanges and cooperation with SAARC on\n the basis of equality and mutual benefit. The Chinese side expressed support\n for Sri Lanka’s participation in regional and sub-regional cooperation.\n \n The two sides agreed to continue coordinate their positions on the\n reform of the United Nations and the Security Council. Sri Lanka reiterated that it opposes “Taiwan\n independence” in whatever form, and will not have any official contacts\n with Taiwan. Sri Lanka stressed for all efforts made by the Chinese Government\n to safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and China’s early\n reunification.
