{"id":116506,"date":"2021-07-26T15:42:26","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T22:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=116506"},"modified":"2021-07-26T15:42:26","modified_gmt":"2021-07-26T22:42:26","slug":"rishads-wife-and-03-others-remanded-teenage-girls-body-to-be-exhumed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/07\/26\/rishads-wife-and-03-others-remanded-teenage-girls-body-to-be-exhumed\/","title":{"rendered":"Rishad\u2019s wife and 03 others remanded; teenage girl\u2019s body to be exhumed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The Colombo Magistrate\u2019s Court today ordered to remand the wife of former minister Rishad Bathiudeen and three others until August 09 in connection with the suspicious death of a teenage domestic worker who had been employed at their home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\ud83d\udd34NEWS ALERT\ud83d\udd34\u0d87\u0db8\u0dad\u0dd2 \u0dbb\u0dd2\u0dc2\u0dcf\u0da9\u0dca\u0d9c\u0dda \u0db6\u0dd2\u0dbb\u0dd2\u0db3 \u0d87\u0dad\u0dd4\u0dc5\u0dd4 \u0dc3\u0dd0\u0d9a\u0d9a\u0dbb\u0dd4\u0dc0\u0db1\u0dca \u0dc3\u0dd2\u0dc0\u0dca\u0daf\u0dd9\u0db1\u0dcf \u0d85\u0d9c\u0ddd\u0dc3\u0dca\u0dad\u0dd4 09 \u0daf\u0d9a\u0dca\u0dc0\u0dcf \u0dbb\u0dd2\u0db8\u0dcf\u0db1\u0dca\u0da9\u0dca\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XSetpL-zY2Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The four defendants, including Bathiudeen\u2019s father-in-law, brother-in-law and the broker who had brought the girl for employment from Dayagama, were produced before the court when the case was taken up today (26).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile the court also ordered to exhume the remains of the girl and to conduct another postmortem examination, Ada Derana reporter said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shabdheen Ayesha &#8211; the 46-year-old wife of MP Bathiudeen, her father Mohamed Shabdheen and the middleman in question identified as a 64-year-old named Ponnaiyah Pandaram, were arrested by police on July 23 following the recording of their statements regarding the death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police had also obtained a court order permitting the detention of the trio for 72 hours for interrogation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, the brother-in-law of MP Rishad Bathiudeen had also been arrested on the same day on charges of allegedly sexually abusing a young woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident was brought to light amidst the probes carried out into the death of the 16-year-old domestic worker at the parliamentarian\u2019s private residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigating officers had uncovered that the MP\u2019s brother-in-law had sexually abused a female who worked as a domestic helper at the parliamentarian\u2019s official residence between 2015 and 2019. The girl, who is now 22 years of age, had shed light on the matter during police interrogations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 15, a 16-year-old girl, who was serving as domestic help at the Bathiudeen residence, succumbed to severe burn injuries while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
