Minister Namal Rajapaksa to Deliver Keynote Address on\n“Digital Inclusion and Transformation in South Asia”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Minister of Digital Technology and\nEnterprise Development Hon. Namal Rajapaksa will be delivering the keynote\naddress on the theme “Digital Inclusion and Transformation in South Asia\u201d\nat a virtual event that will take place on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, at 2 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, organized jointly by the Observer Research\nFoundation (ORF) of India, Colombo Initiative in Sri Lanka and the Sappani\nFoundation in Canada, aims to promote engagements between Sri Lanka, India and\nother nations in the region, which also aligns with Minister Rajapaksa\u2019s vision to elevate Sri\nLanka as a global hub for digital technology and commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both India and Sri Lanka have leveraged their digital\ntools to help their populations through the challenges posed by the COVID-19\npandemic. Digital technologies have been crucial for the continuity of\ngovernments and industries and for social resilience during the pandemic, and\nthey will also be key to post-pandemic economic recovery. The “pandemic\npush” also accelerated the adoption of services in the realms of\ne-commerce, digital payments and online education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pandemic has accelerated the need to create\ndigital inclusion in developing countries, in order to cope with the “new\nnormal.\u201d In such a context, Minister Rajapaksa will be outlining the progress\nSri Lanka has made in terms of establishing digital inclusion during the\npandemic. Further, the keynote address will also present the Government’s plan\nto achieve truly inclusive\u201d digital growth in Sri Lanka, in the post-pandemic\nera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
