Head"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy The Daily Mirror<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>An ancient dagoba &#8216;Kuda Sithulpawwa&#8217; in the historic sacred area of Hambanthota District was broken into by a group of treasure hunters last night (31), Archaeology Department Director General Prof. Anura Manatunga said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the items which had archaeological value were stolen by these elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said a special investigation was underway into the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the police said one suspect who was involved in the incident was arrested and he is to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police also launched a search operation to locate the remaining four suspects who fled the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Manatunga said, this ancient Kuda Sithulpawwa was built in the second century BC by King Kavantissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Chronicles, it is said that 12,000 monks lived in this sacred place in that era.&nbsp;<em><strong>(Chaturanga Samarawickrame)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy The Daily Mirror An ancient dagoba &#8216;Kuda Sithulpawwa&#8217; in the historic sacred area of Hambanthota District was broken into by a group of treasure hunters last night (31), Archaeology Department Director General Prof. Anura Manatunga said.
