{"id":117806,"date":"2021-09-04T16:42:29","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T23:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=117806"},"modified":"2021-09-04T16:42:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T23:42:54","slug":"mainstream-media-and-journalists-should-display-financial-transparency-journalists-forum-assam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/09\/04\/mainstream-media-and-journalists-should-display-financial-transparency-journalists-forum-assam\/","title":{"rendered":"Mainstream media and journalists should display financial transparency: Journalists\u2019 Forum Assam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Nava Thakuria<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Guwahati: Journalists\u2019 Forum Assam (JFA), while appreciating the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry for its initiative to review the guidelines for scribe\u2019s welfare schemes, urged the mainstream media houses and seasoned journalists to display transparencies in their own financial transactions to qualify themselves for such benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forum of\nscribes also opined that the media houses should show their balance-sheets\nevery year and working journalists make self-declarations about their assets\nalong with liabilities as they demand transparencies from concerned individuals\nin other sectors so that they can lessen the erosion of goodwill from the\nvalued readers, listeners and viewers before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be mentioned\nthat the I&amp;B ministry prefers to have a look at the existing guidelines of\nvarious journo-welfare schemes and get appropriate recommendations for the\nrequired changes. The changing media scenario has inspired and made it\nnecessary to define the term \u2018working journalists\u2019, who are engaged with both\ntraditional and modern\/digital media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The review\ncommittee is expected to maintain the parity between the government accredited\nand non-recognized scribes as the acknowledgement rules vary from State to\nState. For any reason, an accredited journalist should not be considered as an elite,\nbecause the status could be altered with the change professional portfolios in\nmedia houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee,\nheaded by renowned journalist Ashok Kumar Tandon, comprises senior scribes\nnamely Sachidanand Murthy, Shekhar Aiyar, Amitabh Sinha, Shishir Kumar Sinha,\nRavinder Kumar, Hitesh Shankar, Smriti K Ramachandran, Amit Kumar, Vasudha\nVenugopal along with Kanchan Prasad from Press Information Bureau and is\nexpected to submit its report within two months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to discuss\non the importance of digital (alternate) media and if the journalists engaged\nwith those outlets can be recognized as working journalists enabling them for\ngetting all kinds of legitimate government benefits,\u201d said JFA president Rupam\nBarua and secretary Nava Thakuria, adding that the professional journalists\nshould establish their integrity first.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nava Thakuria Guwahati: Journalists\u2019 Forum Assam (JFA), while appreciating the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry for its initiative to review the guidelines for scribe\u2019s welfare schemes, urged the mainstream media houses and seasoned journalists to display transparencies in their own financial transactions to qualify themselves for such benefits.
