Chaminda I. Colonne paid her very first\ncourtesy call on the Prime\nMinister and Minister of Defense of the Kingdom Thailand General Prayut\nChan-o-cha at the Government House in Bangkok. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador Colonne\nextended warm greetings to the Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha from the President\nGotabaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both recalled longstanding\nexcellent bonds of friendship and cooperation between two countries for many\ncenturies and deeply rooted in the Theravada Buddhist traditions. &nbsp;Prime Minister\nGeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha conveyed great affection towards the\nGovernment and People of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emphasizing on\nenhanced cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the fields of export,\ninvestment, especially in the context of new normal, Prime Minister General Prayut\nChan-o-cha emphasized the need for accelerating negotiations on bilateral Free\nTrade Agreement (FTA). Both assured to strengthen bilateral economic and trade\nties leading to increase trade volume and to enhance investment with a win-win\napproach. Ambassador Colonne invited Thai investors to invest at the Colombo\nPort City and on her request Prime Minister\nGeneral Prayut directed the Board of Investment of Thailand to conduct\nvirtual meeting with the Colombo Port Commission and Sri Lanka Bord of Investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister\nGeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha also assured to continue in assisting Sri Lanka\u2019s COVID-19\npandemic recovery and to provide technical cooperation in the fields of Agriculture,\nFisheries and artificial rainmaking. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While highlighting\nher intention of promoting economic diplomacy with the Government of Thailand, especially\nin the ten areas identified under the Strategic Economic Partnership (SEP) and \u2018One\nVillage one Product\u2019(OVOP) concept in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Colonne assured\nstrong commitment during her tenure of office for consolidating Sri Lanka-Thai\nbilateral relations for mutual benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha welcomed the proposal\nmade by Ambassador Colonne to opening of a Thai language teaching center in Sri\nLanka and Sinhala language teaching center in Thailand with a view to eliminate\nthe language barrier between the two nations and to enhance people to people\ncontacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commending on\nexcellent leadership of Sri Lanka as the Chair of Bay of Bengal Initiative for\nMulti-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Prime Minister\nGeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha stated that Thailand looks forward to takeover\nChairmanship at the fourth-coming 5<sup>th<\/sup> BIMSTEC Summit and Ambassador\nChaminda Colonne, assured Sri Lanka\u2019s fullest support for Thailand\u2019s future\nendavoures in BIMSTEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister\nPrayut Chan-o-cha also conveyed his warm best wishes to President Gotabaya\nRajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris\nof Sri Lanka.
