{"id":118638,"date":"2021-09-27T16:58:48","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T23:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=118638"},"modified":"2021-09-27T16:58:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T23:58:48","slug":"sri-lanka-and-thailand-hold-high-powered-talks-to-explore-mutually-beneficial-investment-corridors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/09\/27\/sri-lanka-and-thailand-hold-high-powered-talks-to-explore-mutually-beneficial-investment-corridors\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka and Thailand hold high-powered talks to explore mutually beneficial investment corridors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka Bangkok, Thailand<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>To further enhance and expand investment corridors between\nSri Lanka and Thailand, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in\nBangkok, together with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and China Harbour\nEngineering Company (CHEC) Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, co-hosted a\nhigh-powered dialogue by inviting leading line agencies and trade chambers of\ncommerce of Thailand to an opportunity exploration meeting recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several\nsenior level dignitaries from Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, Thailand\nBoard of Investment, Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade Thailand,\nFederation of Thai Industries, Department of South Asian, Middle East &amp;\nAfrican Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Department of\nInternational Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand\nactively participated in these progressive talks to explore and identify\nbilateral investment opportunities between the two countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndiscussions explored multiple investment opportunities Sri Lanka could offer by\nway of the CHEC Port City and also, its six thrust sectors of Manufacturing,\nICT, Hospitality &amp; Tourism, Agri &amp; Food Processing, Infrastructure and\nOther Services, in addition to options that could also enable Sri Lankan\nenterprises to expand supply chain operations in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opening the high-powered forum, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to\nthe Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to United Nations Economic\nand Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), C.A. Chaminda I.\nColonne &nbsp;warmly welcomed representatives\nfrom both Sri Lanka and Thailand and said, Under the National Policy Frame Work \u2018Vistas of Prosperity &amp;\nSplendour\u2019, and the twenty Foreign Policy guidelines of the present Government\nled by H. E. the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka, priority has been\ngiven, Sri Lanka to become an investment friendly country with high level of\ndoing business to attract sustainable foreign direct investments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador recalled with honour, the acceptance of her\ninvitation extended to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, for Thai\ninvestors to invest in the Colombo Port City Project and other investment\nopportunities in Sri Lanka, during her recent courtesy call and conveyed\nspecial gratitude to Director-General Darm Boontham of the Department of South\nAsian, Middle East and African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of\nThailand for facilitating to arrange the virtual meeting within a short time\nspan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman Board of Investment (BOI) Sri Lanka, Sanjaya\nMohottala while providing a comprehensive overview of Sri Lanka\u2019s compelling investment\nclimate and outlining Sri Lanka\u2019s unique investment focused propositions, said,\nThese discussions have exposed us to the vast potential of investment prospects\nthat can open the doors for transformational change and positively impact the\nfuture of both our economies. Sri Lanka offers dynamic and multifold opportunities,\nand we warmly welcome the investment community of Thailand to take advantage of\nthis potential, which enables global enterprises to establish regional\nheadquarters in Sri Lanka through the CHEC Port City and make full use of our suite\nof strategic investment propositions ranging from its key thrust sectors, market\naccess, geographic location, economic fundamentals, winning &amp; capable talent,\nand quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Port City Colombo Country Manager &#8211; Sales and Investor Relations, Radhika Ellepola presented the project\u2019s Master Plan. He\nelaborated on the progress of the project, state-of-the-art infrastructure,\nsustainability, unmatched opportunities to invest in the multi services Special\nEconomic Zone (SEZ) and its salient features.
