Chaminda I. Colonne conveyed Sri Lanka\u2019s appreciation to the\nCommittee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for\nDevelopment of the UNESCAP for its work to overcome the challenges of COVID-19\npandemic and expressed Sri Lanka\u2019s support for the establishment of a\nConsultative Group on financing strategies for the Sustainable Development\nGoals, along with China, Japan, Pakistan, France and Finland. Governor of the\nCentral Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal will be coordinating the said\nGroup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a key\nnote speaker for the special side event \u2018Regional Conversation on Financing for\nDevelopment: Financing sustainable development and addressing debt risks in the\naftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic \u2013 potential of innovative sustainable\nfinancing strategies\u2019 Governor Cabraal stated that downgrading countries in a\ntime of global pandemic is creating chaos and that itself causing\nvulnerabilities and add further vulnerabilities to countries by downgrading and\nproviding low access to finance\u201d.
